After all the GT months it was rather calm for the PT division.
Still some events such as the Deutschland Tour and GP Moscow. So not a lot for the climbers and stage racers. But the 2nd tier riders got their chance in Portugal, which went quite well actually for many teams due to the desinterest of PCT stars.
Winner of the August Races was Aker - MOT ahead of Puma. Both had consistent scoring in all events.
Evonik normally would have grabbed that top spot as they were doing excellent in both PT races but lack the HC points, which also led to a good result by Bpost.
| | | | Deu | Por | Moscow | | 1 | | Aker - MOT | 691 | 247 | 301 | 143 | | 2 | | Team Puma - SAP | 646 | 229 | 363 | 54 | | 3 | | Evonik - ELKO | 558 | 298 | 0 | 260 | | 4 | | Bpost - Vlaanderen | 553 | 229 | 227 | 97 | | 5 | | Tinkoff Sport Academy | 494 | 396 | 0 | 98 | | 6 | | Team I-Gen - Festina | 482 | 337 | 0 | 145 | | 7 | | Red Bull - Huawei | 475 | 209 | 93 | 173 | | 8 | | Movistar - US Postal | 427 | 206 | 35 | 186 | | 9 | | Kenya Airways - Dimension Data | 406 | 336 | 0 | 70 | | 10 | | Pokerstars.com | 331 | 260 | 0 | 71 | | 11 | | Becherovka - Petrof | 330 | 187 | 16 | 127 | | 12 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 315 | 154 | 107 | 54 | | 13 | | Grieg - Eftel | 262 | 109 | 39 | 114 | | 14 | | Gazelle | 229 | 196 | 33 | 0 | | 15 | | Orange - KLM Cycling | 219 | 45 | 0 | 174 | | 16 | | Vesuvio - Accumalux | 214 | 136 | 38 | 40 | | 17 | | Jayco'z Cycling Project | 209 | 116 | 0 | 93 | | 18 | | Metinvest-Dacia | 203 | 94 | 0 | 109 | | 19 | | eBuddy | 190 | 89 | 51 | 50 | | 20 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 151 | 111 | 0 | 40 | | 21 | | Pendleton's | 114 | 65 | 19 | 30 | | 22 | | Bouygues Telecom | 106 | 66 | 0 | 40 |
In total I-Gen is back in the lead swapping with Becherovka, while Aker and Puma both climb having Vesuvio in between them still. Basically a 1-2 fight for the crown at the moment but all those 5 could still get that spot clearly with late results.
Evonik, Aegon, eBuddy really close with also Bpost, Metinvest and Tinkoff there. The fight for the top10 spots is close and one team might miss out when no later team has a brilliant run.
At the bottom Grieg and Kenya are highly likely to go down. Then a very close pack of four of which 1 team is the lucky one in the end. Right now Pokerstars has this spot ahead of Jayco, Red Bull and Orange but it`s just a few points in between those.
Gazelle isolated above them but not out of danger yet, while RBC to Movstar looks to be safe but also desperate for a top15 only.
| 1 | 2 | | Team I-Gen - Festina | 6332 | | 2 | 1 | | Becherovka - Petrof | 6120 | | 3 | 5 | | Aker - MOT | 5725 | | 4 | 3 | | Vesuvio - Accumalux | 5700 | | 5 | 7 | | Team Puma - SAP | 5692 | | 6 | 6 | | Evonik - ELKO | 5445 | | 7 | 8 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 5367 | | 8 | 4 | | eBuddy | 5298 | | 9 | 11 | | Bpost - Vlaanderen | 5199 | | 10 | 9 | | Metinvest-Dacia | 5190 | | 11 | 12 | | Tinkoff Sport Academy | 5139 | | 12 | 14 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 4968 | | 13 | 10 | | Pendleton's | 4877 | | 14 | 13 | | Bouygues Telecom | 4698 | | 15 | 16 | | Movistar - US Postal | 4531 | | 16 | 15 | | Gazelle | 4387 | | 17 | 17 | | Pokerstars.com | 4085 | | 18 | 18 | | Jayco'z Cycling Project | 4038 | | 19 | 20 | | Red Bull - Huawei | 4009 | | 20 | 19 | | Orange - KLM Cycling | 3944 | | 21 | 21 | | Kenya Airways - Dimension Data | 3506 | | 22 | 22 | | Grieg - Eftel | 3226 |
Individually Bewley has the top spot over Schleck and Phinney. A mix of stage racer, sprinters and puncheur here with Degenkolb being best sprinter and Van Garderen best pure puncheur as Bewley and Trofimov are kind of hybrid riders.

Well, our home race wasn't that bad after all, but together with subpar scoring in Moscow, this could've been a mediocre month.
Thankfully, we have this particular star in the making who saved our butts and puts us in a great position now.
We will have some weaker races coming up though, at most we can hope for lower Top 10s in Colombia, ToNE, Liechtenstein and the TTT.
10 Puma riders in the Top 100 is perfect.

Thank you for the update, roturn!
Obviously a very good Volta a Portugal for us, but on the other hand a bad Deutschland Tour, considering it was a Boasson Hagen race. Scoring like an average team there just isn't good enough. Speaking of Boasson Hagen, it's kind of sad to see we probably would have been very close to I-Gen - Festina with a normal season according to his stats from our clear captain.
Though, it's looking very good for our top 10 goal, which will be nice thinking of the budget for next season. Also, I-Gen - Festina looks just more and more like a heavy favourite for the overall with the Bewley miss in Moscow. |

Seeing a lot of good things from our team. 15th is alright, but I wanted a Top 10. Great to see TVG as best punchuer (Vuelta helped massively with that) and Maksimov jumped up the individual rankings with his 2nd in Moscow.
Now if only I had a better GC guy. Abal having fewer points than Maksimov is quite sad.
Thanks for the update.

Very happy with the current situation. 600pts to 3rd gives us every reason to believe we can achieve the podium. 4 teams are still fairly dangerous in terms of the title though. We still have two HC races I think, while the other 4 should be done (if I remember correctly). I still have plenty of leader racedays left with either Spilak, Coppel or Koretzky present in most.

Thanks a lot for the update! :
This month was about as perfect as it can get and might have secured me my top 10 ranking goal. Without Portugal the position would look so much better...
Greg Van Avermaet and Michael Van Stayen look great in the individual ranking. I doubt that many expected them to be this high.
Having my 4th rider on 127th place says a lot about my transfer strategy prior to this season
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Well, this does not look too great for us. At this point it will be really hard to keep at least podium overall, our team goal. Aker, Puma and Evonik all really close with a lot of expected points to get from last races of the season. And Bewley likely won't win the rankings either, as Trofimov still has some races to win.
Thanks for the update, roturn.

Decent month, even with a rather bad Moscow. Still, seems like there's no chance of staying up. The relegation battle above us looks very close, will be interesting to follow.
Thanks for the update, roturn.

Pretty mediocre month for Gazelle. Deutschland was ok, Portugal was ruined by Monforts injury and we didn't participate in Moscow. All in all Red Bull, Movistar, Pokerstars, Kenya and Grieg all outscored us, which means our ranking situation has again deteriorated. The gap to the relegation spots is still on a downward trajectory from 622 to 400 to now 349.
Next up is Colombia and a good result here is extremely important if we want to avoid becoming a true relegation candidate.
Congrats to Aker for the extraordinary month and big thanks to roturn for the frequent and high quality updates!

No win goal achieved in Deutschland probably saw our last hopes of staying up slip away. At least we're finally starting to get some noteworthy results.
Cheers roturn. |
