PT Ranking Update #1 - Teams
The first month of PT racing is done and after three races we can have a first glance at how the teams have done so far.
Let’s have a quick look at all the races first, starting with the season opener in Tasmania. EA Vesuvio made use of their new TT duo infernale Wirtgen and Würtz there who scored 315 and 170 points there. Add some nice depth scoring and you have the clear best team there with a total score of 637 points. With nearly 300 points less King Power came in second place there with 349 points. Third placed Indosat Ooredoo scored 336 points.
The Volta a Portugal is a PTHC race, so only 13 PT teams attended the race. Rabobank may not have taken the GC win with Evenepoel, but their constant scoring was enough to beat the actual race winner Leknessund and his team Gazelle in scoring with 312 to 304 points. Evonik ELKO took not only the third place in the GC with Plapp but also was the third best PT team with 244 points.
The last PT race of the month was the sprinter festival in Qatar, Race winner Farantakis was key for his team ELCO – ABEA to lead the scoring as well with 419 points. But with the epiloque being important for the GC as well the second place went to Tinkoff Team – La Datcha and their TT depth, resulting in 350 points. The combination of Groenewegen for the sprints and SKA for the epilogue win brought Aker – MOT the third highest score here with only 9 points less than the Russians.
With both PT races being TT heavy and only a PTHC race to overcome this it’s no surprise the notorious TT focussed teams are topping the January ranking in the end. EA Vesuvio beats Tinkoff Team – La Datcha by 8 points in the end, but the Luxembourgers didn’t even need to race in Portugal to achieve their 756 points. Rabobank in third is the only other team above 700 points. in 4th is over 80 points behind the Dutch, but also didn’t race in Portugal and are 2nd in PpRD as a result. Aker – MOT in 5th just misses the mark of 600 points.
Further down in the ranking Team UBS, Xero Racing, Los Pollos Hermanos, Grieg-Maersk and Sony – Force India are in the relegation ranks. Apart from the Mexicans all of this teams are also in the bottom five PpRD.wise.

PT Ranking Update #1 - Riders
As said before the month saw some TT heavy races and so it’s clear the TTers dominate the rankings, right? Right? Wrong! At least kind of, because the first individual leader is a strong TTer indeed, but more of a stage racer in general. It’s Remco Evenepoel! He didn’t win a GC, but a decent result in Tasmania on top of his great results in Portugal added up to 399 points. The other podium spots are taken by sprinters with Farantakis (360 points) and Groenewegen (318). Wirtgen in 4th misses the podium by 3 points, Portugal winner Leknessund is only another 6 points behind. We then have a bigger gap to Rodenberg in 6th, who himself has a 36 points lead to Kanter in 7th. Dunbar and Philipsen are pretty much on par with the German. Würtz and share 10th place with 187 points and Kragh Andersen is also only 1 point behind those two.

That projected score for EA Vesuvio
Some teams really starting well here, teams like Rabobank that I believe would fight quite a long way down the table scoring some important points.

Even with the Tasmania AI problems, we had a great month. Not only are we above average, we're also above average of the teams who used 17 racedays. Let's enjoy it while it lasts. Thanks for the update!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

No chance of complaining about that start of the season for us. Rodenberg in particular has been awesome and already eclipsed Walls' total from last year with his amazing Qatar. Not that that will be enough with AKA's decline, but still great to see. Tasmania and Qatar both went much better than could be expected, and so we'll take the slight disappointment in Portugal in stride. We still ended up scoring okay there in the end too thanks to the stage points and the like.
Way too early to look at standings, and we obviously have double the racedays of half the division, but always nice to not be falling behind early. Especially overperforming in races you didn't expect is always nice to provide a buffer later. Hope that helps if we have some duds down the road.
Thanks for the update!

We didn't expect January to be that good and it wasn't. Only way is (hopefully) up from here!

Underwhelming month for evonik. Tasmania was bad, Qatar was bad (but low expectations) and Portugal met expectations but could have been better too with a bit of luck. And almost all the teams i predicted top 5 did really well which makes this a negative month overall.

I wrote this in the Tasmania thread:

Well, it's a top 10. Wasn't expecting Frigo to be our 2nd best rider here.
Which was wrong as I see now from the rankings. I missed Goldstein finishing an amazing 13th place in the GC.
Great to see the future GOAT getting a taste of leading the individual rankings even if it's just for a month. Aniolkowski with a nice amount of points as well, given how bad he fucked up the GC in Qatar. Guess we could have leading the teams classification as well with a good result in the Qatar GC.
Thanks for the write-up!

Great first month for us! Groenewegen doing some heavy points lifting is super encouraging compared to last year, while Kragh is kind of expected, but still, two early wins and some early jersey (Portugal) points and GC points (Qatar) feels very helpful for getting us of to a good start.
And wow, Tasmania is a monster race for Vesuvio. I can imagine we will have a couple of those this season |

A very average start I guess. Qatar totally saved us otherwise we would be near the bottom of the rankings. Hopefully we improve our performance sooner than later.
Thanks for the update

Halvorsen deciding to skip Qatar means we're off to a bad start for the first time in one of our PT seasons. When we were off toa good start, the rest of the season wasn't very good, so hopefully this time it's not even worse Relegation was always the plan of course, but ideally we go down with a fight here and there
Nice to see a self developed Mexican as our best scorer, Aguilar Mendez' white in Qatar definitely a highlight for the team.
Thank you for the write-up, kb!

No win yet, but a good start to the season by our TT guys. Second best out of teams that didn't race Portugal.
Thanks for the rankings update! |

Despite the flashy unexpected stage wins, Portugal was piss poor and that's what's reflected here. Hope it was a one off.

This is going to be a long season At least the cobbles will start soon to give us a break from the misery that is our squad.
Thanks for the update and sorry for being a bit away over the last weeks

Although Portugal could have gone better it's still a good start of the season for us, thanks for the first ranking update kandesbunzler26.
