Simple Way to make Cities?

Is there a really quick and easy way to put cities at starts, finishes and inbetween? I've heard you can just highlight an area and then just press something, is that true?

I've downloaded my first patch recently, was weird but awesome!!! Any help would be appreciated on the cities query (please consider that I have no time to do stage editor and stuff like that - just want to know any quicker ways which are simpler)
