Another great stage for Alarcon, even with the crash he did well! Now even 4th looks within reach!
This crashfeast is getting out of hand, really feel for tshoma and roturn here. Going down with your GC guy once is worse enough

All those crashes
I just have to hold my breath every time. So far Lecuisinier haven't been affected, but it could be him next time. Not the way we want such a strong peloton to be torn apart really...
I still expect big gaps on stage 5 and 6, so the race is wide open.

It's a shame that the first mountain stage of the MG season has been overshadowed by all those crashes

Really impresive Aleksandr Pluchkin comeback, amasing.
But also was Madrazo on the phone or what, looked like he could easily have attacked to force Pluchkin of his wheel.
All those craches is a bit too much ”action” , need some races without those please.

Rain really seems to accelerate the crash ratio, and must say it's painful to see it be such a Russian roulette if you survive or not.
But what an amazing ride by Pluchkin! Truly spectacular. Congratulations, fjhoekie! Also of course congratulations to DubbelDekker on the stage win, which has set up the GC very nice between the top three riders. Really wide open between them now, and hopefully it means for an aggressive hilly stage.
Also super happy with that performance from Guldhammer! Seventh is well above what I can expect on such a course, and also with a big gap down to 8th. For the GC, I must say it looks promising for a top 7 place now. The current 5th place I guess will be impossible to keep, but the gap down to Herklotz in 8th and the riders behind should give him a real shot at that 7th place.
And here's for hoping he is able to take advantage of the upcoming hilly stage, then this could really be a brilliant race for him and the team.
And thank you again for the reports, Aquarius97! |

Absolutely amazing! Pluchkin is certainly trying to be worth his insane salary here, and what a wonderful job he is doing so far! Scarponi 15th on the stage is encouraging too, shows he is capable enough of being a good final domestique here for Pluchkin.

Staying with Guldhammer on a hilly stage is positive but loosing more time to Top 10 not so Good.
All about defending our 11th now and hoping someone Up front struggles in the next stage. |

Dekker being 15th with two crashes already is impressive.
Good to see he is not injured. Unlucky to see how he performs seeing he could have attacked top5 even or minimum top10.
Pluchkin where he is expected to be in that race already.
Did Machado actually ever crash this race? I only remember him being dropped twice on recent stages and now with the best. So also very unlucky for Porto.
Festina putting pressure on Moser here as Lecuisinier is having a very nice and consistent race and ahead of some stronger riders.
Boom hopefully in the attack on next stage to get back his KoM lead. |

Machado was involved in the big crash in S4, losing 6 minutes in the finish

Unless Morton does something mid-stage, this race won't have much left for Jayco. Which is a bummer early in the season.

Impressive effort by Van der Velde, but, sadly, it's probably going to be impossible for him to get the KoM jersey. Even if he goes in the breakaway tomorrow and wins the 1st category climb, Pluchkin will still come up on top given the stage finish.

Good stage from Silvio again, putting time into stronger climbers to hopefully secure a Top 10 spot tomorrow. Not being aggressive really cost a lot of riders dearly so I'm glad he was strong enough to get away from that big group.
Yates really is the unexpected overperformer so far, of course the race suits him but I didn't think we'd have to make up a minute on him on the last mountain.
I hope Herklotz will manage that tomorrow and maybe even put pressure on Guldhammer while fending off Alarcon, that 6th place looks juicy.
Bongiorno and Nerz did slightly worse than I hoped, there's some work left to do for them to climb some GC spots and get back to second best team.
Surprise overperformer of the day Stüssi quite a bit ahead of Nerz and s.t. with Bol, promising signs especially since he has the most RD of our team this season.

Yeah, if I have a Top 10 sponsor goal in a race, fighting for 9th is a waste of energy. And in the final rankings I want to be exactly one point ahead of the next best team.
