Getting beaten by considerably worse mountain riders shouldn't really happen to Mager (Edet is 4 points worse and Smirnovs even 6, but we all know the Evonik stat matrix is different to anyone else's), but I love his fighting spirit lately.
It got him a decent amount of KoM points and a fine GC position besides the handful of stage points.
I hope he can continue to get into breaks, preferably already tomorrow which looks to be another breakaway stage. The riders ahead of him in the KoM standings should be restricted by their high GC spots for now.
On the stage in general, any breakaway win is appreciated as it preserves Ciolek's points jersey for another day. Nerz didn't shine, but only conceded time to six riders worth mentioning in the long run. I hope he survives the hilly stage well.

Beautiful, beautiful win by Edet! Impressive performance, and the mountain jersey is obviously a great bonus.
Getting beaten by Dekker isn't a great delight, though... Sicard really should have done better on a stage like this, but top-3 is still possible, so let's aim for that.
Best team by far in the Team GC |

Yeah, Abal doing very good once again.
He did not loose much in those hilly stages in either Giro or Vuelta I hope that continues in this race aswell , would ofc be brilliant to have him in the podium here. |

That Mager attack came 150km too late for the KoM jersey, but this was certainly the best possible result from that initial race situation!
A very uncontested, but also very courageous ride to get on the podium on his second try, I'm convinced he read my comment up there
3-1-5-3 on the four mass start stages so far is awesome.
Congrats SotD for finally getting on the right side of luck
Of course it's Evonik once again right behind, I just hope Smirnovs runs out of luck now as I don't want to concede the points jersey to a KoM leader.
On the other hand, Mager going on another attack might see him contest both of those classifications as well. But even if he doesn't, it's looking good for a surprise GC result.

With the downhill finish, it looked like an obvious breakaway stage pre-race, and it definitely delivered. Congratulations, SotD!
Not much to see for us. Feillu showing himself in the sprint for 9th, with still Holst Enger also in the bunch, was nice though. |

Quite a breakaway race now. I don't care as long as Haig remains where he is. Finishing in the front of the peloton may be a good sign as well. Other than that, not really an interesting day except for those teams in the break.
Congrats, SotD. Not yet quite giving up against Moser?

Congrats Sotd, David getting back some missing points from the cobble season?
On another note: I want whatever Evonik is taking!

Guys, what is happening here? April Fools are supposed to be on 1. April?!?!
Seriously this is crazy and unreal. I had a couple of underperforming races in the early season but this double header is unreal. Absolutely crazy. Madness.
Sending Smirnovs and Siskevicius to all sort of mountainous races with hilly stages looked already like a big planning mistake but my view changes right now again
Love the podium. David finally with his win and former loanee Mager also up there. I love it
Thanks everyone for your comments. I really enjoy them. (Especially by you, cio)

Seeing Tom David fighting this hard for the KOM points made me think that he would have blown the chances for the win, but then luckily we had Kastrantas there aswell - and he usually get's a top stage result from those sort of breaks once a season. But then it was David who took the win. That was a surprise!
But a very nice one... Thanks for finally getting that stagewin Tom David. Now we are almost complete in terms of getting stagewins for our own developped riders

Damnit PCM, I had such a good chance on this stage if only the break would have been caught

Tinkoff and Evonik have been doing a lot of work at the front too.
Why instead get in those breakaways / go for KoM fights... please?!

Dzhus is cool Scarponi and Topchanyuk also doing fine, could actually be a half decent race for us here.

Still fine. Couldn't expect to defend the podium against Sicard, so despite some losses on Nerz/Hirt, Haig did quite well as 8th and now 4th in the GC. The final two days will be tough though. Really not looking forward to it Guess it can only become worse than our current 4/18 GC situation for Haig and Lowe.
Another breakaway win. Nice to see our former loaned-in rider taking a PT stage!

Nothing spectacular from Galta, which isn't a surprise, but I must admit it would be great to see him do something similar to what Nerz did here once in a while. And looking at the stats, he should be capable too.
But keeping that top 10 in the GC is important and good. It would be nice to see him challenge Cattaneo and maybe even Nibali, but as it stands now, it looks like we need to pay more attention to Reis, Nerz and Keinath to keep a top 10 overall.
Thank you for the report again, AbhishekLFC, and congratulations to wildcard winners! A wildcard win is always nice to see, especially when we don't try our luck in the breakaway ourselves : |

Another poor climb from Vasyliv, who should be fighting for a little bit more here... I can only hope that he will get into the break on one of the remaining stages, as this really had proven to be the breakaway's race.
Good little attempt from Affonso. Too bad he didn't have the strength of Anguillet. Nice win for him!
Also good to see the top spots reopening a bit, aswell as seeing Hirt finally getting close to the top 10.

Sicard strong there
Cattaneo dissapointing me a bit, doing nothing and loosing time because of a split.. Based on his great Giro I am expecting something to happen on the last stages

This race gets weirder and weirder. I have no idea why my guys are responsible for chasing the break on such a stage. Makes little sense to me and i would have prefered more break finishers ahead of the peloton but whatever.
Anyway, next hilly stage is up. I'm hoping that Smirnovs joins the break again to get more KoM points and possibly even some more sprint points on the two intermediate sprints. Would be important ahead of the heavy mountain stage on the last day
