A top 5 on that kind of stage is encouraging. When Galta has been at his best for us, both in terms of form and AI treatment, he is getting involved at the front even on hillier stages, despite his low acceleration. It's an encouraging sign here that he was alert and in the mix, and comes home with a nice placing for his troubles.

Thank you for the report, kb!
Great to see Novak aggressive and initiate the fireworks. He held on for a long, long time too, which probably was what burnt him in the end. Shipping 41 seconds to that big group is very unfortunate regarding the GC, and I suspect AI agrees, having him as a two star favourite before the stage. But he gave it a real go for the stage win, which means I can't be too upset, I guess. Hoping to see more of the aggressive racing. If he can make use of the hill on the next stage, the steep and short descent to the finish could see him make it stick, at least I hope so! |

Phew... Stüssi definitely dodged a bullet here. That's always the risk with him in these hilly stages, although he did a perfect job in the Giro. Luckily for him, S5 and S9 are the only other hilly stages left, but in particular tomorrow's finale might cause some gaps with late (downhill) attacks.
For today, 11th place gives no points, but is still a very solid result.
Tomorrow, the main goal is to keep Stüssi safe, but I'm also hoping to finally see some attacks from my riders - and who knows, maybe even Bol keeping up over that hill, if it's just slightly more relevant than the S2 one (which I doubt, though).
Congrats to cycleYorkshire, Morton in command early on - although he must dislike that name in 2nd place
Thanks for the report.

Choi keeping out of trouble for 9th is a job done from him in these hilly stages which are fairly high risk for him. No complaints from me!

The earlier splits were a bit scary, but glad that Aular came back and even managed an eighth place. Tomorrow looking scary again
Thanks for the nice report, kb!

Third in such a hybrid stage is a good result for Dombrowski.

Gaviria on fire. Good enough by Aular to hold on and can't complain with a ninth place for Halvorsen in a stage like this for sure. Great report, kb!

What a nice race so far from Gaviria, a leader's jersey for a few more days would be a nice positive surprise, the main target always was stage hunting and points jersey. Finally a positive race!
Thanks a lot for nice reactions and also for these nice reports, kandesbunzler!

Gaviria boosting Moser massively. This is just what they need in terms of their ranking position, I'd say Congratulations again, Roman.
And finally we have a result! Happy to see Groenewegen finally deliver Hoping he now can continue the momentum and keep delivering results in the next two flat stages! |

Honestly hoped for it to be a little more selective, because any selectivity in a stage generally puts AKA out of contention. Always a bit sad to see other "pure sprinters" hold on while he falls back. But Galta staying in front is most important.

Positive first few days for us - of course we have nothing to offer in the flat stages but Morton getting an unexpected stage win plus the leaders jersey for a few stages is a positive development. Romo was seen as purely a domestique in stage 4 so it was interesting to see the game thought of him as a leader in stage 5 in his attempt at chasing down the leading selection over the top of the last climb.
Congrats to Moser and Gaviria for the stage win - enjoying a massive lead in the points classification as they are the only consistent sprinter here it seems. Although I do have to say I hope that run of form ends for a few stages as I would like a few more days in red before we hand the jersey back over to someone else...

That's just awful. It's exactly stages like this that made me send Bol here, and now he just finishes 30th without even considering participating in the sprint. At some point he was right behind a Tinkoff dude, I guess it was Samolenkov, and then decided to drop into anonymity instead of getting a good stage result. I hate it, really.
At least Stüssi just made the group as well, as the last GC rider. Job done by him so far, but even a low Top 10 wouldn't compensate for Bol's letdowns.
Congrats to Moser again, pretty decent GC for you ^^
Thanks for the report.

Foss losing a bit of time sucks but it isnt too much and Ansons defending white makes up for it. So solid stage i guess.

A very slow start to the race for us, with Trondsen looking well of the pace/not bothered to sprint. The positive is that it can only get better from here ...

After that disastrous first stage the team is really trying to bounce back, hopefully it will lead to something in the coming days.

A day in the KOM jersey might well be the best thing we do all race.

Well, I guess the time has come to not follow this race anymore. Another day, another reason to fire Bol. Flat sprints: Failure. Sprints shortly after a hill: Failure. Uphill sprints: Failure.
Cheers.

Gaviria is on a roll. That's nice to see. Congrats Roman on another victory.
So far I can also be quite happy with Hsu's sprinting performances. I hope he keeps it up!
Thanks for the nice reports so far, kb! |

Best result of the race so far for Thijssen, still pushing for what seems like an unlikely stage win given the Gaviria dominance! Good to see breakaway representation too
