Great stage for Evonik! Getting involved in breaks and claiming the first KoM jersey is what we needed. Hopefully Potts can defend it on the next stage which could be reasonable with only two categorized climbs on the road map.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Very worrying to see both Stake Laengen and Nesset hit the ground, as they are supposed to be key riders for us when we start to climb in the mountains.
For the sprint, it's nice to see Groenewegen claim the win now that he's fully developed. For Holst Enger, the positioniong is always going to be key, but also a lottery, which means he gets another chance at getting lucky on the next stage
Weird to see Ahlstrand not even try for the sprint. Is that down to bad form, or something completely different only AI can explain? |

Thanks for the quality coverage, SN. Great to see the master at work again. Gratz to ro! Pleased with this stage. Obviously a stage win right from the start would have been way better but Strava is active and Guarnieri has good legs. Hard work from the team didn't pay off, which is a bit a shame but alas. Fonseca is quite a letdown as lead-out unfortunately. Also nice to see our loanee taking one of the few botd stints for Evonik and claiming KoM for now.
Tomorrow is another chance to grab a stage win and pink. Forza Guarnieri!

Ewan actually participated in the sprint, which is good. Although clearly showing that he needs that bit more growth to contest in a straight fight with the PT boys. We'll fiddle with our tactics and progression.

Nice first sprint stage. Tough dispute at the front with Groenewegen stealing the win from Guarnieri at the very end of the stage. Intense. Congratulations roturn!
viking with lots of reasons to be discontent here. Ahlstrand & co should really be enjoying these chances. Plenty of chances to shine, though. Avelino was solid in 7th, but hopefully he'll improve on that.

This stage doesn't bode well for Vesuvio's Giro, with Van der Lijke not getting in the mix. It was always set to be our weakest GT, but the hope was that he could take advantage of the less-straight forward flat stages such as these.
Konig for GC, hoping to emulate what Olivier managed last year. Top 15 is the minimum target here, especially with this field.

Our GT debut and we have some high goals to aim for. Quite surprising startlist missing the big stars of PT.
Henao Montoya finished 5th and won a stage last year. When we got the wildcard for the Giro the goal I set for myself was to repeat that or atleast get close. Looking at the startlist now top 5 is very much in play and with a bit of luck he'll get close tot he podium. I'd say Alarcon and Cattaneo are better and will fight it out for the win, will be interesting to see them go up against one another, two completely different riders. Nibali finished just ahead of Henao last year but has decreased iirc and Velits and Morton are similar to Denifl who Henao also beat last year.
I obviously send about as strong a team as I could send here made up of our climbing squad with Maillet and Kolesnikov helping Henao plus mostly all arounders like Ignatiev and Barbin who I dream of also getting close to a stage win. Ignatiev already missed his main goal and our biggest chance at pink in the prologue. Kolesnikov also has a specific goal which is his sacred top 15 spot Furthermore there is Modolo but 78 sprint even with great all around stats means he won't be involved in the build up for most sprints.
The prologue was quite a bummer for us, had high hopes for Ignatiev but doesn't seem like ACC means much in prologues. Henao also lost quite much already but doubt it'll have much influence on the final GC.

A podium every stage is definitely a good way how to make Festina unhappy about this race.
Well done Vesely, the most probably that small hill right before the finish helped his chances quite a lot. 3rd place is well over the plan.
Danacik went down but comfortably finished in the main field - nice to see him getting points for provisional GC standings for another day.

Boev crashed but still was better in the final sprint than Porsev: Weird!

Congratulation to roturn
None of the on paper strongest sprinter on the podium, probably shows how hard it will be to dominate the sprints with such a strong field, guess position will be key every time.
Great report - thanks.

Gratz to Iberia, but horrible stage for us. We are only stage 3 and already the peloton is gifting stage wins to the breakaway. Fucking AI messing stuff up again. I am in for a long Giro if this continues like that. At least Guarnieri looks good in the points ranking. Thanks SN.

It looks like Morton is doomed to take on the scepter of crashes from Gesink.
Good stage for me with Van Poppel finishing second. I guess Grosu ran out of breath in the final meters there. In the future it would be better if they would work together though
