Great battles on both ends here.

The gap in results in the ttt was really important, really it's all down to keeping results close in praha and limbardia while hoping Tasmania can be the windfall of points from Phinney

Penultimate Update

After entering Tasmania separated by just 8 points, could the title battle go down to the wire? Mathematically yes, but realistically, probably not. The Americans produced a killer blow, and now look set to defend their PT title.

One battle may be ended, but not them all! Good Energy come charging back into podium contention after Guarnieri outsprinted Bewley in Becherovka's back yard, and Ponzi continued the job down under. They go into Lombardia separated by just 17 points! Pokerstars have an Italian leader for that race, but may have to settle for 5th.

Let's take the relegation battle next. Bouygues, Swisscom and Vueling did enough in Tasmania to save their skins, but the VolksWagen-Rothaus duel will go all the way to Lombardia. Rothaus have the momentum, but can that 99 point gap be breached?

Back to the Top 10 and even further Trofimov glory probably cannot prevent Simply Red Bull in 6th and Tinkoff in 7th. Boasson Hagen finally delivered a high points scoring race, and this may have secured a Top 10 finish for Aker-MOT too.

It's close for the final positions. Team B&O edge in front of Festina after a shock TTT podium. Pendletons and Project 1t4i made up some lost ground in Tasmania though and could still enter the Top 10. They also have a personal battle going on, with just 3 points between them.

At the very bottom there is still something to play for. Bpost have been closing the gap on Santander, and ING have been closing in on Prio. 200 points may be tough to make up though.

Tour of Tasmania also provided the key battle ground for the Individual Rankings, with Taylor Phinney holding a 71 point lead on Yuri Trofimov ahead of the race. But victory for the Russian puts him in an unassailable lead, to cap a fine debut PT season for Tinkoff.

Bewley is 3rd, but is not guaranteed to finish ahead of Andy Schleck, although the TdF winner may be more likely to ride in service of brother Frank in Italy. Both brothers should end the year in the Top 10 of the rankings. The final Top 5 spot is likely to belong to Ponzi though.

Don't give up hope Vesuvio! Although i also like Wiki so... erm... Go Vesuvio because i'm all for the mental final day scenarios.

Simply having a very good season, and indeed i wonder where they go next year because you've got to assume Alarcon will be nowhere near as incredible. Will be fun to track that off-season action.

Rothaus to survive? It's not a big gap and a splash of luck will see them do it. Come on Rothaus, i believe! (not hard feelings to Volkswagen) I'd also like to see Bpost pass Santander but that doesn't seem likely.

Title surely decided then? Although a double Schleck surprise could easily turn the situation upside down, so perhaps it's not over yet. At the bottom Rothaus still have hope, but it'll be difficult to overturn that deficit with a weaker hill squad than VW. Also shocked to see a Festina squad I fancied for a title tilt all the way down in 10th. Looking forward to Lombardia!

Shame to see no title up for grabs at Lonbardia but Wikipedia look like worthy winners, repeating last years successes.

Volkswagen and Rothaus going head to head for survival is the most important thing to be decided PT wise it seems. Good luck to both, I really like both teams and will be a shame to see one relegate.

This is set up for an exciting finale. I'm surprised how many teams are separated by only a handful of points, so there is still a ton of potential for shifts in the standings. I guess we are safe now. Nibali will be lining up at Lombardia, but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even crack the top 10.

That really should secure us a top 10 considering we've also got Boasson Hagen in Lombardia. Would be great to at least secure that sponsor goal after what feels like a tough season with Boasson Hagen not shining as I hoped he would.

The title looks secured considering Van Garderen is racing in Italy, Schleck the elder and the whole Vesuvio team really needs to come up with something special to make it exciting.

For the battle between Rothaus and VW-Mapei, I follow TMM. Rothaus will need some luck to pull through, but VW-Mapei are big favourites to stay safe. But for sure it will be a thrilling end to the season!

Afraid not. I seem to recall having a decent team at Lombardia but not good enough to make up that gap if the season so far is any guide.

Wikipedia smashed it and i cant see Vesuvio closing the gap against Tejay, even with The Brothers. A bit sad to see forr me, no secret that i support Vesuvio much more.

At least i am happy for Good Energy surging into that 3rd spot, that would be incredible result, nice potential fight with Becherovka there and seeing two czech managers in PT top5 is also nice.

Rothaus is so close, but still so far, given the lineup of VW for the last race in the calendar, but who knows with PCM, Rothaus can win from the break and everything is turned upside down, should be a thrilling finale.

Tinkoff has my deep respect for the way how they have built a PT powerhouse, with tight control over the russian market for several years, great job Oleg!

Rothaus can't win from a break. This is what I learned over the season. Would be awesome but highly unlikely if the last race changes this.
Still I hope for LLS being the best of this duel. But 99 points? Might be a bit too much.
