This race is officially a write off unless I jag something from a break.

So all major GC-ers between + 44 and + 1'28, not bad, hoped for a little but more from Tinkoff; especially strange to see Belkov, Kolesnikov and Vorobev losing contact with the rest of the team, but maybe they gave it their all in the first part of the TTT.
Most sprinters are more than 1'20 behind in GC so it will be interesting to see if ING will cooperate with the sprint teams to go for mass sprints.

Good start from us, losing almost two minutes should mean our riders have carte blanche thinking of breakaways.
Really curious about the coming stage, is it an uphill sprint as well in addition to the late categorized climb? If so, you could argue for the puncheurs and not the sprinters if they're well placed towards the end. Fingers crossed for "home hero" Levarlet!
And thanks for a brilliant and really in-depth report from the first stage, roturn! |

Knockout from ING there, expected nothing from my team, hopefully this allows us to attack. Even though I expect my team to take it "easy" on the flat stages considering we got Bouhanni and Zabel

Yeah. This was a huge surprise there. Might be bad form of one rider. Or the hills did cost you a bit.
I also did expect far more with a line up of 81-80-78-76-72-72? plus 2 fillers.
But obviously my line up was just for a 13th!
In the TTT classic though I will have no fillers and in addition to those I will have a 75? LLS. So top5 is aimed there and you might get your podium.
Btw. : Planning to make 1 stage/day. Should work usually even though I am not sure about the Christmas Holidays. Eventually could see a small slow down there but I actually don`t think so.

I hope to see my loanie Dzamastagic in action. Thus, I'm supporting Pokerstars here. He can prove his leadout skills and hopefully, he gets the chance to join or two breaks when Boonen cannot contest the finish.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Honored to see 1st picture of race is dedicated to my team. Although final result ain´t so good Great result for ING, congrats to rycadinho. They most likely secured yellow jersey for whole first week, it will be interesting to watch, for how long local hero Romain Sicard can stand the pressure from biggest guns in mountains!
Excellent detailed report, roturn, I´m also glad you mentioned J.Wallays in it. He is like my Adam Hansen IRL, participating in all 3 GTs this year! Is there any other rider through MG like Jelle?

Thanks for support, Dzamastagic were already seen in several breaks this season, hopefully it will continue here!

Jakub Novak, Jakub Kratochvila and Daniel Vesely from my team only!
Decent TTT for us, was nice to see us mentioned a few times in the report. Big congrats to ING, they won with such a big margin, that they will surely earn big points from here now.

Whoa what a beating!! 40+ seconds on all the competition is a magnificent result for ING. Congrats rycardinho, this tactic of yours will surely pay dividends at the end of the race!
Tough results for both Bpost and Rothaus, they deserved much better results imo, especially Bpost who deposited most of their hopes for the Tour in this particular stage.
Good enough for us, it's more or less what I was expecting, but I don't think these margins will be relevant for anyone other than Sicard tbh.

6th is a pretty reasonable start. Of course I would like more but only 10 seconds lost to Phinney and Pluchkin is good, with gains on the rest. Not too worried about Sicard at this stage, but who knows what the French factor could bring.
There are 14 riders starting their 3rd GT of the year here. Perhaps no surprise that 5 are from Santander, the notorious GT focusing team. Rafael Valls has finished Top 20 in the first two already.
Lorents Ola Aasvold
Daniel Vesely
Jakub Kratochvila
Jakub Novak
Jelle Wallays
David López Garcia
José Herrada
Juan Carlos Rienda Segura
Rafael Serrano
Rafael Valls
Christophe Riblon
Frederik Wilman
Petr Ignatenko

Not bad at all! Not last considering our TTT squad is awesome, and gives us good position ahead of next hilly and mountain stages at least for attacks.

I thought I had noone racing all GT's. Seems like I were wrong, well done by Brenes. I most likely decided to send him to all of them as he is a nice breakaway rider / helper

Just had a look and it is actually lower than usual. 26 did it in both 2013 and 2012, with 21 in 2011.
3 Santander riders have done all 3 in 2013 and 2014: Serrano, Rienda Segura and Lopez Garcia. The first two are now into their 7th consecutive GT.

Interesting, seven consecutive GTs is huge number (not for Hansen IRL of course)! Unfortunately, it looks like their streak will be over, at least in Santander´s jersey

Btw, if anyone wants to see a pre-TDF rankings, has Excel 2007 or later, and some time to spare for the ManGame, by compiling the ranking points data for Dauphine and/or Suisse (using a template Excel file where you just have to plug in some numbers) - let me know.

I'll be able to do it tomorrow.
