Vuelta a Espana Discussion

Great active stage by both my riders.

Unfortunately and quite frustrating with time losses for both in the end...beaten by Koch...come on PCM...Keizer hugely underperforming here so far...

Olivier hopefully now goes again trying to improve on another stage and get the KoM.

viking90
ooh, Abal seem to struggled there for a while sticking together with Vosekalns but he repaired that fast and got past Lecuisinier and Monsalve in those last kms.

Another sprint stage coming up, will we take the biggest responsibility to chase the break once again? I guess so, as gustavo said we have a crazy season when it comes to the sprint tactics.

Atlantius
It still baffles me how Vastaranta is turning into a sprinter here. 7th on a Vuelta stage is a good result for someone who haven't contended a flat sprint in more than two years!

We need to stop messing around and send Brambilla (or even Van der Velde or Herrada) in the breakaway in these mountain stages and not Lammertink and Vermeltfoort, who should save energy for the easier stages.

Like Brambilla's race hadn't taken a turn for the worse already he even crashed now. At least he doesn't seem to be injured.

Schleck is beatable after all? Well, let's await his answer on this..

Haig doing fine in this stage: trying to attack here and then, as it seems. 17th in the GC so far is still a good result. But just like alexkr00 said: I want Haig in a breakaway Smile Not sure if today's stage helped him in this matter. But at least he's starting to show himself at some point in a mountain stage.

Roman
Nice attack by Parra, and a good result from Velits, great to see him back in top 10 overall. Smile

Well, this is going fucking excellently thus far.

Machado strikes on par with his direct opponents Grin

No gaps awarded to the groups behind Sad

7th seems to really be the best we can aspire, given the stream of events. I should just adjust my expectations.

Congratulations on an important victory here DD!

I'd also just like to point out I'm a huge fan of your introduction to the stages Tamijo. I'm loving the historical background paragraph in the beginning of the reports! Thanks for that!

Tamijo
Thanks nice to know you like it.

Thank you for another quality report, Tamijo! Also the pace they're coming with is amazing. Keep up the great work! Smile

That was another superb performance by Galta. I really start to like his chances of actually getting that top 10 overall now, which would be beyond expectations for him. Gaining time on Lecuisinier is also great, as that battle for white surely will go on to the very end, I suspect.

Guldhammer is still not doing anything constructive in this race, but at least he helped closing the gap to Vesuvio in the team classification. Though, I fear we're in trouble there when we hit the big mountain stages again, where Schleck distances our riders by several minutes. But at least we'll keep on fighting!

Also congratulations to DubbelDekker on the stage win! Very interesting to see Schleck beaten again, which makes for a very exciting continuation of the race.

Vosekalns and Koch are looking great Grin
Still rocking in a great gc situation Smile
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Not so good, but at least the loss was minimised to around 30 seconds. Nothing good ever comes from sitting back and letting others attack first, particularly on a route like today's. A 2 minute cushion on Madrazo is my minimum target going into the TT, as I'd like to be holding the race lead going out of it, going into the mountain stages that follow. Stage 14 will be a more important one now though, to regain momentum going into that time trial.

Also a poor stage for the rest of the team, regarding their own GC positions. König's continued low position is made up for by Goos higher presence - but won't be for long, with Goos now close to falling out of the Top 20. At least König's quick return to pace setting proves that he picked up no injury.

Surprising to see Monsalve and Olivier fall back by so much in the closing stages there.

This breakaway bug really is annoying.

On descents it`s the worst but also on the flat it`s incredible how fast the break can go in the end...

Alone in the sprint train organizing 1-2 kilometers they again gain 30s or so after not losing a lot on final 30km at all. In especially on last 10km.

Groenewegen in 2nd is still a very good result but I think this should have been win no.3 for him here.

Must be said though that my team worked all day but then stopped in the final 10km. So just fair I guess. Pfft

Plus it`s nice to see a wildcard team winning. Congrats LLS!

Yeah right. Abal and Haugard Jensen just take 15 sec on 5 kms. They are quite strong riders, they should not even chase we got other riders for that.
Why not Ludvigsson, still injured? Guess so he and Rojas Gil already lost Contact my I dont think would have chased anyway.
4th is fine but Arndt beating so many in a sprint?!

So far Abal is doing a magnific GT sitting nicely at 5th giving his all in every stage, keep on doing that or start relaxing om those flats...

Congrats LLS

tsmoha
Well, should have tried to join the break again Smile

Another breakaway win in a flat stage, interesting.

Congratulations LLS, nice victory in your team's home GT.

Another good effort from Bayly, but unfortunately he is caught in the sprint once more. We have had the luck we can expect in these situations, so we definately can't complain.

This! This right here!! This is why I valued Arndt way beyond a simple 79mo rider when I got him for 300k initially.
I waited a very long time for that stat to make a difference somewhere, so I'm very happy.

I had a glimmer of hope when I saw the route yesterday, and finally the AI made him care about positioning and he absolutely delivered. 72 sprint might've already slightly paid off on stage 10, but it definitely did here.

Good ride by Declerq too, he's definitely our designated break man in GTs and it nearly worked out here. Luckily, most of them getting caught didn't ruin a result for us.

Congrats to Euskaltel! Always great to see a wildcard team take a stage win.

Straight up knew when I saw the profile that this stage was going to be won by breakaway rider, too bad Strava didn't have a rider in the break of the day on that stage but well, Chhetri and Didier definitely activ eon stage 12, too. Hopefully Didier and Chhetri keep it up, and perhaps Eyob joins the fun soon.
