Oooh, exciting first stage. Ganna taking it on less than 1 sec (or maybe it was his connection to the poeple in the Bada Bing thread?) is awesome
So Aker, just send Andersen home now? A failed Giro for him

Groselj in 6th is about as good as it gets. I forgot that Papanov has a good PRL stat so a few extra points there. Pogacar kinda meh I guess.
Congrats to King Power on the win.

Not off to a bad start from Kooij. Too bad plenty of other young guns got it right too, a day in the white jersey would have been a nice bonus.

Not according to the script, Kragh!
Obviously disappointing to not get the win and the jersey, but congratulations on the win, Bikex. There is a world where this Giro is what will catapult King Power to become the overwhelming favourite for the PT rankings, if McNulty can do very well. Starting like this for Ganna, can be nothing, but the perfect start for that quest!
Thank you for the report, kb! Looking forward to some entertaining sprint stages where we hopefully can use the added motivation of missing out on pink to do even better there

Let's prove him wrong, Kragh! Fingers crossed our leadout will work, at least |

Good enough from Wellens to start.
Great performance by Hopkins here.
Quite shocking to see Andersen lose this one here. He barely ever does. So a nice change even though ember might not agree. Ganna as home rider a worthy winner here. |

A really good start from Weemaes there, let's hope the others follow his example.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Fantastic preview Heine, thank you!
We made the Vuelta our goal race this year since it avoids more TTs. We'll see how that pans out given I expect the startlist of pure climbers to be very strong there, but at least it means the pressure is somewhat off for the Giro. Obviously not really because we'll need points, but it's not our focus.
We ended up going with two GTs for Carthy this year because it seemed like the AI gave him more upside there than doing shorter stage races, which often include a more meaningful TT and where Skjelmose can score white jersey points more easily. So, we're her primarily for Carthy. Obviously can't expect anything close to second place again this year, and as the previw notes, there are several tiers of guys above him. A top 5 isn't impossible, but I would be happy with something in the 5-8 range based on the startlist, with hopefully a few showcase days in the mountains for Carthy too. He'll lose time in the TT, but there are enough mountain stages after that hopefully it evens out.
We also have AKA here! Not too many hopes for him with a lot of better sprinters, but if he could sprint regularly and showcase on a few stages, it would be a fun for is final season. My one regret is not shifting around Norsgaard's schedule to get him here. Would have had to forego a few other races we thought he had a chance at minor GC placings, but he had a legitimate shot at a stage podium here it seems.
The prologue didn't mean much to us. On to the real racing!

No points, but wasn’t expected either. Giannoutsos best of the GC riders here together with Darbellay is a good start to the race. Not something that will decide anything, but let’s hope that him being in the front part Can make him and the team alert in the early bumpier stuff that isn’t particularly well designed for him.
Time to see what Zingle and Kinoshita Can do in such a race. A stagewin would be great!

A shame Jonny couldn't grab the white here, should have been a free hit for him but congrats to Roturn on another surprising few points for Kaden Hopkins.

This is our weakest GT team of the year but we're still hoping for some stage scoring.
Didn't have any expectations from the Prologue though!
Thanks for the excellent preview and the first report!

Ask and ye shall receive. Congrats.
Thanks for the great preview. Will be routing for McNulty to prove that Tirreno was an aberration.

Not bad to start with a top 10. AKA looked out of position early in the sprint but sorted himself back in. Hopefully we get some sprint lottery luck along the way.

Oh wow! That was absolutely mindblowing from Zingle! We very rarely win stages. This was a massive one for the team!

Sensational stuff by Zingle. Congratulations, SotD! What a brilliant, brilliant season it has been so far for ELCO in their comeback.
Surprised to see us only have Konychev on duties for Groenewegen the last 14 kilometers, as I was sure we were set to be one of the teams doing a leadout. He did place Groenewegen very well, though, giving him a great position. 3rd place from there, having been in the front much of the time before they settled behind other trains, is a fine start, I'd say! |

What a preview Heine, good stuff. It was tempting to send Sivakov for a Pogacar/Bernal/Sivakov podium battle but had to make decisions based on lack of race days. Should be a fun battle behind Kudus.
I don't mind not being in the break during flat stages but Vingegaard (+Arslanov and Rybalkin) loosing 5 minutes this early in the race isn't good at all. Hopefully they could use it to their advantage later on. Thanks for showing the podiums pictures kandesbunzler26!

I guess AKA hit the wind too early there trying to leapfrog to a better train and just cracked. Can't really complain when the 75 acceleration guy can't keep up. Congrats to Nemo.

Interesting to see Van Poppel revenging himself after the blunder yesterday, even more surprised to see him get put in a train, set up by us! Congrats to Nemo on the S3 win and also congrats to SotD on a stage 2 win yesterday for Zingle!

5th was a great result from Hugo on Stage 2. Not so great on Stage 3 but we can live with that.
Congrats to SotD and Nemo on the wins! Thanks for the reports kb!

Thank you for the reports so far, kb
Doffen! Congratulations, Nemo
Kind of worrying from our perspective, that Groenewegen lacked any kind of finishing punch after what seemed like a brilliant leadout. It probably cost too much to be so near the front for such a long time for Groenewegen. If that's the case and that's how we continue, we might be in for a long Giro here Fingers crossed we can change tactics if this continue, or somehow adjust, similar to how we managed in Qatar earlier this year! |
