I sent Lutsenko here in the hope he could win at least one of the hilly stages and maybe take the leader jersey after stage 2. However with the breakaway win that certainly won't happen now. Kind of annoying also with regard to Hsu's strong result in the sprint here.
Brändle is here to fight for a good GC. It's good to see him being one of the top favorites for the tt. |

Oh. My. God?!?
I think today might rank right after Herklotz's Vuelta win and Demare getting into TdF yellow with a solo win as one of the greatest days in Puma history?
Two stage wins, a GC win and SIX jerseys?
Guy Sagiv makes me regret trying to ship him in transfers, what a ride to start your sprint so early and still have the most energy left to finish it off.
This is exactly why I signed him two years ago as a lvl3 rider despite not being a nationality fit at all, and I guess luckily the mo/hil system changed and made me develop him more as an allround baroudeur than as a puncheur.
He really has the perfect skillset for these stages, with a good enough hill-sprint combo to contest easy KoMs, and the flat stat to help make the move stick in the final and utilize that sprint one more time.
Seeing him execute that to perfection though is still impressive!
Sadly, it'll be quite a task to defend this gap to the peloton tomorrow, but the steep nature of the last hills might actually help Sagiv overcome his bad MO stat if we can position him at the front and he gets a boost from being in the lead.
(also I realized I forgot to write a preview for this, basically it would've been this:
breaks, breaks, breaks.
So in that regard, mission accomplished already! )
Thank you tsmoha, tastasol and knockout!

We kind of sent a B squad here: low expectations

Alex sure put in a courageous effort there. At some point his effort to make it across went from valiant to idiotic, but it's nice to see him trying to be involved.
RIP Exxon Duke, David Veilleux, Double Feature, and Monster Energy

Ouch we have obviously come with no ambitions what so ever. Even Boily can’t do remotely what his stats would suggest on a Stage finish like this.
Every bit as good the Suisse was, Dauphine is bad. I suspect we will finish the race with 50 points.

Bummer. Haig already throwing away his ambitions for a high GC?
What a start. Howard with nothing, Haig with something worse.

On point! I enjoyed it, and nice to see us try again.
Congratulations on the win, Croatia! Everything looks set for Phinney domination |

Good stage by Olivier. A bit unfortunate he lost contact in the end but he played his him stat well here.
As the two time trials don't suit him well, such advantage in the hills is needed.
Can only hope the TdF is similar with him gaining on such stages.
Congrats Croatia. Well played till the end. |

Loved the stage! Attempted triple trouble in the morning break attempt, Stoltz defends shared polka dot, Mas claims white for a stage and most importantly Chiarello with a strong stage, sticking with group Barguil which sets him up for a great gc position. Lots of 2nd level leaders that lost 1-2 minutes on him and might have trouble getting that back since he is actually a solid tt rider too. Good job Evonik!

Looking at the situation with 1 km to go Lutsenko really should've taken the win here, especially against the other riders present there. However, looking at how Skujins did in the giro I didn't really expect Lutsenko to do well here, so I take 3rd. It's better than nothing. The gaps are bigger than expected, so Brändle already having lost almost 2 minutes is not ideal.
Congrats Croatia! I wouldn't be surprised if Phinney wins at least 3 more stages here. |

Really bad season from Vlatos unfortunately. Not even remotely close to performing according to his stats.
If this is how he performs in the early TT, I guess he won't even get a top 10 in the latter. We have no results to defend whatsoever, so we really have to get into some breakways now to salvage just a little bit of points here - Otherwise the performance in Switzerland will have been for nothing.

Now that my whole team is outside of the top-60 it is time to get into the breakaways.

Solid by Wurtz. Hard to beat Phinney, so very happy with second place and a decent TT by Stake as well.
Phinney could win this race by 5+ minutes. Looks to be in total control.

Fantastic ride by Tvetcov but bad ride by Chiarello. The situation would look much better if the daily form would have been reversed. But let's see how they will do now...
Congrats Croatia part 2.
