Koretzky really should have been able to win this stage - but atleast we scored some points finally...
Bongiorno currently sits in a decent GC position, but he needs to ride aggressively to get a top 10 here, as there are a significant amount of better climbers, and even a bunch of worse with much better TT than him. He might even struggle to do to 15 in the end.
Koretzky needs to keep on trying to score points in the next stage too.

I just realised due to this stage that our loaned out rider Frankiny has been quietly having a decent race so there is at least a silver lining there for the team, he should be a pretty decent addition when he comes back to us next season.
I wouldn't mind keeping him, he does very well in our colours but seriously, why does on every stage always our best GC rider loose time? Guerreiro, Jaramillo, Frankiny all had one off-stage, so now Augustyn is our best one
Great ride by young gun Aleksander Roman today!
It's clear I'm relegating this season, although going into the season I'd have been shocked not to. How renewals go will shape my off season so you never know what less than ideal moves I might get forced into, things don't exactly have a habit of going to plan around that time of year afterall.

Not a good race for us. Skujins at least got a stage podium on the previous stage but we are far from where we could or should be in this race and Farfetch already in yellow on the hills a) is a pcm crime and b) makes this race a net negative for us in the relegation fight.

We're so far behind you that you could score zero points in the remainder of the race and we still wouldn't catch you. Plus you'll outscore us by a good 1000 points or so with the remaining cobbles and ToNE
Not a bad stage for us, although I remain amazed by Carthy's ability to be totally useless - at this rate I can't see him even finishing in the top 50 on GC. Monsalve's puncture got me worried for a minute, but good to see him up there at the finish, suggesting his chase didn't tire him too much. |

Evonik may be catchable depending on a bit of luck coming our way. Think we'll end up in 18th, but at least we have a lot more hope than after the Vuelta.

As Fabianski already mentioned today's stage was only the second stage that went to the breakaway; the first one (stage 4) Chernetskiy finished 4th just outside the podium... but today Chernetskiy was on fire, especially on that gravel road. Thanks for the great pictures Fabianski!

Loving these detailed reports but we really should have made use of the breakaways more... really losing out on extra points.
Anyway, hope Meintjes is in good form as we need him to be over the coming stages!

Thanks for another report, a bit weird we don't join breakaways here though.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

This makes me very happy, what a performance!!!
Tvetcov in the top 10 makes me happy as well considering his history with the team, he is set to do well overall which is good.

Really feeling for Farfetch here...I've never seen a yellow jersey starting a final climb that far back.

Tvetcov keeps on being solid, which is good. Now he will need a huge, huge day on the queen stage. If he somehow can keep the gaps to the riders in 5th-9th place on the queen stage, he should have great chances at making a good GC here. Though, stats wise, I can't really expect him to be able to follow the climbers there, but luckily he has some seconds down to Oomen and further below. Fingers crossed he can at least defend his current GC position on the mountain stage.
Kind of annoyed to see Farfetch and Monsalve do such a thing. Really thought he had the GC win here, and that Farfetch was going to start a comeback for PT survival. I like their team a lot, but there has been a lot of "close" races for them this season. Having said that, Monsalve could still be able to turn the GC around again on stage 10.
And thank you for a big report, Fabianski! |

Bongiorno FFS!
What’s wrong with the usual way of combining reports and results?

There's a character limit on posts, which is less than the combined reports and results in this case - the reports are so good, they break the forum |

Not quite sure what to make of it. Annoyed by bad positioning again potentially worsening the result and the time loss to Meintjes, but it clearly could have gone a lot worse and the move to 3rd and 2nd of the climbers is a positive one on paper. Areruya doing good today as well.
Bennett on paper isn't the favourite for Stage 10 and will need extra time on any rivals due to the TT to boot - the win is pretty far away unless he has an insane day, a podium is possible but will be tough too, but it has to be the goal. Houle winning tomorrow would be nice too

The change of game making puncheurs struggle tremendously in Portugal now - Bobridge who did great previously, Bakelandts, Skiujins, Koretzky and co. with merry a podium or two between them so far. Positioning on most stages has been utterly bizzare too. Bakelandts not to be seen at the front a lot of the time and wtf was with Monsalve hanging off the back in yellow? Very strange race. Thanks for the wonderful reports though.

It's like sitting in the helicopter and watching the race go by...
Both from the perspective of the great reports and from our riders

Superb from Gallopin! We started the first few stages of this race well, but didn't really rack up a lot of points along the way, so great to end the hilly stages with a win.
Still points to fight for in the mountain and points classification, so hope to see Gallopin in the breakaway tomorrow as well. There are bound to be better climbers than him in that breakaway, but we got to try.
Thanks for another great report!
