How do you use the custom stages in a d/b. For instance if I was to use an alternative set of custom stages for say TDF 2009, how would I do it. Does the database have to be edited to integrate the stages. How does the game choose which stages to use ? Excuse my ignorance on this subject. Regards Jaywol. |

I'm not too sure what you mean.
Do you mean variants => changing routes each season?
Or do you mean how to replace existing stages, e.g. the 2008 Tour for the 2009 Tour? |

Well both really. I guess the game uses a different stage profiles in each different year of the career. How does it select the different stages, are they named x/2008, x/2009 etc. If I download for insatance some custom stages for the Tour for exapmle, where do I place them. How do I use them in the current season of my career and does the database have to be edited at all ? Regards Jaywol. |

For the variants, have a look in Program Files/Cyanide/PCM/CM_Stages/Variants. Check out some of the files, and you'll understand.
For replacing stages, yes, you do need to edit the DB as it contains information about the stage names, length, mountain, sprint - and the file name of the stage. |

Try taking a look in STA_race and STA_stage. I'd say that they're pretty self-explanatory. |

Ok, sorry for my ignorance. I've finally looked at both of these and the only thing that stands out is gene_sz_variant_xml in STA-Race. The same column apears in STA_Stage. How else does the DB need to be edited to add variations for stage races ?
Also, if I want to replace an existing race / stage, with one I've designed myself, do I simply overwrite the existing file, or is some editing of the database required ? If so, which new files are required ? Please kep any explanations basic. Thx, regards Jaywol. |

As said in one of the previous posts, you have to add the variant with text files. Check the folder called variants in CM_Stages of your main PCM-folder. If you want to add a new variant, you can use one of the existing variant text files as a base - have a look, and let me know if there's something you don't understand.
For replacing stages, STA_stage is the place to look. Find the stage you want to replace and edit all the columns. They contain information about the stage name, terrain, length time gap, mountain/hill ratio etc., and all of this - especially the mountain/hill ratio and time_gap - is important. |

Ok, basically I want to add variants of the grand tours, using some of the custom stages that people have created. Sorry, but your really gonna have to teach me to suck eggs on this one. I can't see any variations in the tables that would allow the database to differentiate between what stages to use from one year to the next. Basically, I don't want to be repeating the same grand tour, year after year and from what I can see, there are some great new stages that people have created. |

Again: If you want to add a variant, it's not done in the DB. It's done with text files.
Open PCM/CM_Stages/variant.
Copy France - Grand Tour_03.descr and name it France - Grand Tour_04.descr. Open the 04 file with Notepad. Type in the details of your variants stage-by-stage.
When done, open France - Grand Tour.rules with Notepad. Add a line with min/max set to 4. This will make it use the variant you just created in the year that you set in the rules file.
Save, and you've added a Tour de France variant. |
