Our final day at the Circulo de Juárez will be spent circling the eponymous Juárez. The race is still in the balance, at least mathematically. We can safely ignore the bonus seconds available at the intermediate competitions, those were taken by the breakaway. The only calculation we need to consider is the finish. That means that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png Jiankun LIU is the only remaining challenger. He must finish first or second to have a chance at the points and general classifications. Even in that eventuality, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png Caleb EWAN will secure both jerseys with a Top 5 finish. No surprise then that both riders have the benefit of trains today. The other teams forming up are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png SEE Turtles, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png Minions and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/enb.png Bianchi Enel

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/HC/Juarez/juarez0501.jpg

Before we get into the meat of things, let me quickly pause to review the events of this morning. Obviously, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png Trans Looney Tunes were marking every escape attempt to the best of their abilities. They did eventually settle on a breakaway of three, despite the best efforts of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/bsh.png Juri HOLLMANN and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/bsh.png Josh ATKINS to expand that number.

The final formulation was, at least on paper, quite dangerous. On any other day you might expect the trio of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/brc.png Samuel MUGISHA, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mck.png Marildo YZEIRAJ and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/spr.png Carlo NOIA to be a threat to make it all the way. Unfortunately, that was never going to eventuate on a stage like this. Other than airtime, the biggest takeaways were 8 KOM points for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/mck.png YZEIRAJ and 6 for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/brc.png MUGISHA.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/HC/Juarez/juarez0502.jpg

As has occurred several times throughout this race, the right flank is the first to crumble. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/enb.png Ben TURNER can't hold water against pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png Achraf EL-DOGHMY and is being forced into the roadside drain. Everyone else seems to be doing alright. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/slg.png Nicolo BONIFAZIO will be hoping to secure his first decent result by selecting pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png LIU's wheel. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/lot.png Axel ZINGLE (18th) is taking a gamble by following pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png Dylan KENNETT. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/znf.png Sondre Holst ENGER (11th) is with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png EWAN, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/spr.png Itamar EINHORN (5th) looks to be trying something different by having pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/spr.png Andrea Enrico MACCAGLI shelter him from the wind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/HC/Juarez/juarez0503.jpg

A sweeping right bend is causing yet more chaos. For a moment it looked as though pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/enb.png Bianchi Enel were going to make a recovery by sneaking up the inside of the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png Ethiopian line. Instead pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png Erik BASKA, who managed to power out ahead of everyone else, has cut across both of them. It is difficult to tell amidst the chaos but I think pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png EWAN and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/enb.png Danny VAN POPPEL have been forced to check up.

It has happened at the worst possible time as well. It looks like the leadouts are starting their accelerations! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png Dylan PAGE is the first to make his move, but he is still a bikelength down on pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png Jay MAJOR. That is all down to the massive shift pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png BASKA just put in, he will be furious if pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png JAKOBSEN can't convert from here. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png Atsushi OKA has also started moving, although it already looks like he has lost a bit of ground to the others.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/HC/Juarez/juarez0504.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png PAGE looks to be the fastest mover early-doors, rapidly drawing alongside pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png MAJOR. It looks like his acceleration was too strong for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/slg.png BONIFAZIO, who has jumped across to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png KENNETT's wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png KENNETT, also, is on the move almost immediately after that. He has seen that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png OKA won't be able to keep pace with his rivals and has instead swung across onto pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png JAKOBSEN's wheel. The fact that he didn't have to drop back to do so is rather damning. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/znf.png ENGER has also brought himself up near the front, although he has been in the wind for a while now.

Astonishing! As we come under the one kilometre banner, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png JAKOBSEN looks like he is sitting up. Has he said something to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png MAJOR here? The Bahamian looks to have made a second acceleration that dislodged his leader. Whatever the cause it looks like we are going to have shootout between pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png MAJOR and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png LIU, who has just jumped out from behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png PAGE.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Reports/HC/Juarez/juarez0405.jpg

Frankly, it all looked to easy for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png LIU there. He easily swept past pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png MAJOR and, faced with no other challengers, has already raised his arms in victory several metres out from the finish. Job done as far as he is concerned, he is in with a chance. Now, where is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png EWAN?

Last we were with the yellow jersey, his train had just crumbled to dust and left him to be swallowed by the peloton. He did fight back from that, following pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/pgt.png Rick ZABEL on to the wheel of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/znf.png ENGER. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/znf.png ENGER has done very well for himself. He was entirely without support in the closing stage, but navigated himself into a good position and now, with the a powerful sprint, has secured himself second on the stage. Only three places left in the Top 5.

I doubt anybody knows just what was going on in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png JAKOBSEN's head when he went under the red kite, not even him. He did eventually start his sprint; just far too late and entirely without the momentum that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png MAJOR had built up for him. What makes it all the more disappointing is the incredible effort displayed by every section of his train, exemplified by the fact that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png MAJOR was able to secure the final spot on the podium. That's right, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png JAKOBSEN didn't even make it past his leadout man! He did finish 4th, at least.

One spot left in the Top 5. Remember, if it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png EWAN that means he holds on for the victory overall. It is a three way drag race between him, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/pgt.png ZABEL and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png KENNETT. The pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png Turtle made a mistake in switching over to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/min.png JAKOBSEN's wheel. He couldn't have stuck with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/see.png OKA, who was slowing up, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png LIU was right there. What is done is done though, and he just doesn't have the raw power to overcome the pain of being forced to check up.

That means that it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/pgt.png ZABEL and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png EWAN for 5th. Spoilers: it has gone to the former. He had been in no-man's land with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/bsh.png Max WALSCHEID for much of the finale but, upon seeing pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/znf.png ENGER accelerating, made the effort to secure the wheel and is rewarded accordingly. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png EWAN tried to come around him at the last gasp, but just couldn't manage it.

Does that mean that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/tlt.png LIU has taken the win? Have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png Ethiopian Airlines fumbled at the last with a bungled leadout? Wait, I am hearing from the race radio that pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png EWAN is the overall winner. The pair have finished equal on time, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2026/Micros/eth.png EWAN is ahead in the points classification. That means he takes the win on countback! What scenes.
