Six 3rd category climbs on the route today and last year's race winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Moscon is seen as the top favorite. He was only third in this stage last year and made his decisive move in the final stage. Will he move earlier this year? He sure has a lot of time to make up as he is down 43 seconds in the GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Jang was alone in front of the race at the first summit of the day
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/1.jpg

Two groups of two followed him and soon joined him at the front to form the breakaway of the day: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Piganzoli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Scotson and then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Wohler and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Vainio

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Piganzoli won the second climb of the day in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Scotson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Vainio
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/2.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Glanbia tried to take the Italian by surprise at the next summit, but in the end we had the same order for the top 3 as on the previous climb
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/3.jpg

And same top 3 on the next climb as well though it was a bit more comfortable for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Piganzoli this time
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/4.jpg

After the fourth climb the front group broke appart and soon we only had pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Piganzoli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gla.png Scotson out in front
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/5.jpg

But only in two it was mission impossible against the pack who was coming after fast. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Zappes Kölsch and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Assa Abloy were setting up a furious pace trying to take advantage of a split in the pack though most of the best puncheurs weren't caught out by the split. It was mostly sprinters and prologue specialists that were caught behind, including pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Manninen and the two stage winners, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eus.png Carsi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/pbc.png Kopfauf
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/6.jpg

The yellow jersey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Chavanne, was not caught out and he seemed the only one interested in the bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint and he took the 6 bonus seconds after a lead-out from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Svab. He also took 6 points so maybe that was he was chasing as the green jersey seems a more realistic goal than yellow for him here, especially after how the first two stages went
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/7.jpg

On the penultimate climb, it was pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Boswell who made the first move from the puncheurs and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Velasco was the first to repond
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/8.jpg

But it wasn't a decisive move in the end and plenty of people were able to follow as 33 riders were together the summit, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Lafay taking the points in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Senyenov and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Boswell
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/9.jpg

As soon as the final climb started, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Stocek took control of the front group
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/10.jpg

No one really seemed willing to attack though, with a few riders changing at the front, but no one really putting the hammer down only 3 riders were dropped from the group from the start of the climb and up to the final kilometer. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Gladysh was leading the group under the red kite
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/11.jpg

One pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Ethiopian Airlines at the front of the group and one at the back. No one other than the yellow jersey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Chavanne
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/12.jpg

A small split at the front of the race inside the final kilometer as 3 riders get a small gap to the rest of the group: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Watson, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Gladysh and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Velasco
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/13.jpg

And we finally have a proper acceleration! It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Mayer with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Montenegro right in his wheel
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Mayer isn't strong enough to take a comanding lead as he sits back right after he takes the lead of the group. But it looks like this move has the tied the group together back again
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/15.jpg

But no one really has any energy left here and it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Mayer who takes the stage win. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Montenegro, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Gladysh and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Watson took the next places
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Velasco is fifth and despite a small gap created at the finish line between him and fourth place, the organizers give this second group the same time as the winner. This will end up costing pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Mayer the yellow jersey at least for today as he will move into second place in the GC same time as the leader. And the leader is quite a surprising one: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/aab.png Hänninen, 7th in today's stage
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C2/SanLuis/s3/17.jpg

Speaking of the yellow jersey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/eth.png Chavanne had a complete meltodwn in the final kilometer ending up over 2 minutes behind the stage winner. His yellow adventure is over, but he extends his lead in hte green jersey classification and is now a huge favorite to keep it until the end of the race
