Two major questions at the start of the day. Will the slightly higher distance than the opening stage favor time-trialists more or will it still be the prologue specialists who will come out on top? And the second one, of course, is can Coquard hold off all those behind him and claim the overall win on top of the 2 stage wins he already got?
Nyoni lost time on the road in the previous days which means he is out of the GC battle, but on the plus side this allowed him to stay in the hot seat for quite some time today with the time of 9 minutes and 55 seconds
More than 100 riders tried to beat that time and failed until Marryatt managed to improve and by quite some margin. The Kiwi was a whooping 13 seconds faster than the SEE Turtles rider!
Vernon was one of the big favorites for this race, but it looks like the conditions here do not suit him at all. After a failed prologue, he fails to make a big impact today too, 9 seconds slower than Marryatt!
Van Moer is another rider with a perfect pedigree for this type of races that just didn't seem to find his legs here. And today he finished a shocking 26 seconds behind Marryatt
On the opposite side, we have Spark who seem to really be enjoying this race. Coquard won two stages and has a good chance of taking the GC home as well and they are at the moment having the top 2 spots in the race as Howson improved the best time by 7 seconds.
A good ride by Milan today. He was 11 seconds slower than Howson, but he did more than enough to keep his white jersey, but could also potentially climb to a top 10 overall with this result
Paillot lost a second to Milan and will lose his place in the GC to the Italian, but he could still climb into the top 10 with a bit of luck
Craddock really pushed beyond his limits in the prologue and today is no different. He was just 10 seconds slower than Howson today which will allow him to not only keep his top 10 place, but actually improve on it. Vernon didn't step up for Zwift, but Craddock surely did!
Another rider with a surprising result in the prologue was Cardona and he doubled down on it today, 15 seconds slower than Howson, but he should be able to keep his top 10 GC spot as well
A good result for Lammertink today, just 7 seconds slower than Howson. He will lose his GC spot to the Aussie rider, but he will get a good place of his own too.
The longer distance might have hurt today Kopfauf as he loses 22 seconds to Howson and his place in the top 10 with it as well!
Cosnefroy did very well in the prologue, finishing on the podium, but he wasn't feeling as good today, 13 seconds than Howson. Good enough to comfortably hold on to a top 10 in the GC.
Powless almost won the prologue, but he won't repeat that result today. 9 seconds slower than Howson, which means that he is 3 seconds behind the Spark rider in the GC. Howson has now 5th place in the GC guaranteed, while Powless is in provisional second place!
And it's now time to watch the prologue winner Bjerg. It won't be a second stage victory for the Dane as he goes 6 seconds slower than Howson. But he is awarded provisional first place in the GC, despite being having the same overall time as the Spark rider.
Enger did very well in the first two stages of the race, but then his perforamnce slowly dropped and today is no difference. 31 seconds slower than Howson and he is out of the top 10 in the GC!
Ewan was never going to a threat today, but he lost 1 minute and 13 seconds to Howson today, which puts him out of the GC completely
Something must have changed in the air here. Coquard started the day with very high hopes of keeping first place in the GC, but he loses 56 seconds to his team-mate today and he barely holds on to a top 10 in the GC!
Bjerg wins the race in front of Howson and Powless. Spark must feel like they lost the race twice, first with Howson and then with Coquard, but 3 riders in the first 11 in the GC (one of which is second), 3 stage wins and one distinctive jersey should make that pill easier to swallow
