Stage 7 Report

The Tour of Poland ends with a 177k hill stage in which the riders will tackle a sequence of 3 climbs, 4 times, with the finish coming on the last climb the 4th time round. The first two climbs in each circuit carry Cat 1 point so lots of room for the KOM jersey to change hands. There are also Cat 1 points at the finish for the third climb in the circuit. The climbs a little shorter today than the big ones at the end of yesterday’s stage.

The organizers think with all those shorter climbs this one is a race for the punchiest riders. The top two in the GC are both more diesel guys in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Powless and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke so they will hope things don’t get too stretched as there are 4 punchier riders just behind them on GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/favs.jpg

Just under 20ks gone, 8 riders off the front in two group – 5 riders including KOM leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Traeen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Gabburo (4th in KOM) have 56 seconds, 3 more at 31 seconds. But Euskotren don’t seem happy with this and have 4 riders on the front (Stocek, Lafay, Castellon, Politt). 2nd in the young rider’s competition, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Page, punctured and is chasing solo.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/01.jpg

The front 5 reach the bottom of the first climb in the first circuit with a gap of 1’52. Joining Traeen and Gabburo in this group are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Lilovski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Stroll, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png De Marigny-Lagesse. The next group are 26 seconds down, that group includes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Velasco, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png De Laat, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Wai Chu. Finally, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Dyrnes is 51 seconds down. He benefitted from Euskotren’s chasing but they didn’t as they missed his move and their move got shut down when it attracted a bunch of passengers. Now the peloton seems to have given up, Page is 3’44 down but will hope to rejoin as the pace slows.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/02.jpg

Gabburo and Traeen are the only riders in the break with KOM points and they take 1st and 2nd at the first KOM point. De Laat is third. Traeen started the day with a 24-point advantage in the KOM that is now down to 20. De Margny-Lagesse has been dropped from the break but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Castellon has rescued things for Euskotren with a brave solo bridge.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/03.jpg

Gabburo (76) wins the next climb with a late charge after a see-saw battle. Dyrnes, Lilovski and Traeen (88) are the next three. Velasco and Lilovski were dropped on the last climb, the latter made it back, the former is 1’22 down. Peloton at 4’54, 129k to go. The puncheur’s teams on the front – Hunter Valley, MOL, Zalgiris, Podium Ambition.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/04.jpg

At the first Cat 1 on the 2nd circuit Gabburo (92) adds 16 more points just holding off Lilovski. Traeen (96) settles for 4th again, his lead is down to 4 points, not looking good for him in the KOM. Peloton at 4’24, both Velasco and De Marigny-Lagesse have been caught. Gabburo is the closest of these riders on GC but he is over 10 minutes down, so that is probably not an issue.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/05.jpg

At the next Cat 1 Lilovski finally wins one, Gabburo (104) finishes 2nd ahead of Traeen (106), meaning the Kone rider holds on to his virtual jersey for now. Lilovski (40) up to 5th in the KOM.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/06.jpg

Gabburo (120) seizes the KOM lead by winning the first climb on the 3rd circuit. Lilovski (52) and Traeen (116) follow him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/07.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Buck-Gramcko leads the peloton over 3’54 behind, the lead has been in that range for a while. 64k to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Wai Chu was dropped from the break on the last climb and hasn’t been able to rejoin.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/08.jpg

Gabburo (126) and Traeen (120) both crack towards the top of the next climb and take minor placings. Dyrnes (52) takes 1st ahead of Lilovski (64) and De Laat. Lilovski now in 3rd on the KOM, Dyrnes up to 5th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/09.jpg

With 36k to go pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Kalaba leads the peloton as they catch pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Castellon who was dropped from the break on the last climb. The remaining 6 riders in the break have 2’13. Peloton down to 117 with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Eiking (17th) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Stocek (18th) the most prominent riders missing. Eiking had an untimely puncture, Stocek doesn’t have that excuse.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/10.jpg

The break roll through the only sprint point without any action. That sprint point marks the beginning of the 4th and final circuit.

4k from the top pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Gabburo is dropped from the break, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Traeen could snatch back the KOM lead if he scores well here. The peloton coming hard now and the gap is down to 1’41.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/11.jpg

Traeen puts in a dig but he has nothing left and Dyrnes (68), De Laat (56) and Stroll pull away to take the first 3 spots. Traeen (126) gets 5th to Gabburo’s 6th (130). pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Lilovski (72) gets 4th on this climb and sits 3rd overall but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Dyrnes could still catch him. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png De Laat up to 5th overall.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/12.jpg

Peloton is down to 89 by the time they clear the climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Page the most notable victim, luckily, he has a big cushion over 3rd in the young rider competition.

5k to the top of the 2nd climb in the circuit (and the last climb before the finishing climb). The front 3 have 52 seconds, it doesn’t look like they will make it to the top. Leading the peloton are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Quintana, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Wenzel, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Sureda

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/13.jpg

With 1.6k to climb, 13k left in the race, the break has been swamped. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Van Niekerk looks like he is about to come off pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Kipkemboi’s wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/14.jpg

Van Niekerk attacks, a whole raft of riders try to follow. Only pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Storer able to really hold his wheel then a small gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Powless, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Tejada, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Conti, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Rodriguez, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/zal.png Olesen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/15.jpg

Over the top the front two have 14 seconds on the other mentioned minus Olesen plus pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Quita. Then another 28 seconds to a 26-rider group as the peloton explodes behind. The chase group being led by Bralirwa (Tesfatsion) and Bianchi (Miltiadis). All the GC top 20 except the couple mentioned earlier in one of these 3 groups.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/16.jpg

8k to ride, about half of it descending. Storer and Van Niekerk holding their slight lead over Powless, Rodriguez and Lunke. Tejada, Quita and Conti have been gapped after not responding to a dig by Rodriguez. Peloton not far behind them with Tasfatsion driving the pace.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/17.jpg

As they reach the bottom the front 5 come together thanks to work from Rodriguez. The other three caught by a chasing group of 18, nobody else from the top 20 has been dropped yet.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/18.jpg

3k to climb and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa comes to the front of the chase group, the gap is 12 seconds. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Godon having just done a big pull. Bralirwa and McCormick making a late appearance in the race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/19.jpg

2.4k to go, Amezawa, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Faglum Karlsson lead the catch. At the back pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Tesfatsion (16th on GC), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tlt.png Rucigaj (20th) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Potocki (19th) have been dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/20.jpg

With the catch made Van Niekerk goes again.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/21.jpg

Van Niekerk reduce the front group to 11 with 1.6k still to go. Missing are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Moscon (14th), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Fabbro (11th), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Quita (10th), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Rodriguez (8th), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Conti (12th), and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Borisavljevic (13th)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/22.jpg

Yates is the next to crack, this hasn’t been his race but then with 1k to go the pace eases and he is able to rejoin along with Quita, Moscon, Conti and Rodriguez.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/23.jpg

There is a stalemate until with about 600 meters to ride pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Storer attacks on the right with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke on his wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/24.jpg

200 meters, Storer catches the rest by surprise and grabs the lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/25.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Storer wins stage 7, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke produces his second surprisingly good uphill sprint of the race and takes 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/26.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Van Niekerk gets 3rd and a late surge from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot gets him 4th ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Faglum Karlsson.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/27.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Powless gets up for 6th. He will have to wait to confirm there are no time gaps before he can celebrate overall victory. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Errazkin is 8th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tlt.png Govekar completes an excellent race in 9th, he will easily win the best young rider competition, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/zal.png Lutsenko is 10th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S7/28.jpg

The first 15 get the same time which means pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Powless wins the race. Despite his great sprint Lunke drops to 3rd as the time bonus for winning is enough to move Storer up to 2nd. The only other change near the top of the GC is that the Air New Zealand pair of Fabbro and Borisavljevic suffer on the final day and lose a few GC places.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Quita holds on for the points jersey ahead of Benoot and Lunke.

Page holds on to 2nd behind Govekar in the young rider competition, those probably weren’t points Bolt-Eesti were expecting.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Tejada rides with the GC contenders for most of the day and scores 4 KOM points at the finish moving him up to 5th ahead of De Laat in that competition. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Gabburo is confirmed as the winner ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Traeen.

Bianchi puts the PCT teams to shame by winning the teams competition by over 6 minutes from Gjensidige.
