Stage 6 Report

Stage 6 takes the riders 179k to Morskie Oko. A huge selection of KOM points along the way plus a couple of sprints. The stage finishes with a 7k climb averaging 5.3% but with a max of 15%.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates are the favorites, neither of them has shown much interest in the race so far, we will see if the organizers are on point today or if those two continue to view this as a training ride.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/favs.jpg

The race features 9 Cat 3 climbs and then a Cat 2 and Cat 1 points at the finish. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Gabburo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/see.png Oka lead most of the 15k leading up to the first Cat 3 but at the last minute pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Nesset dashes across from the 2nd group on the road to take 6 points. Gabburo gets 4 and Oka 2. None of them have KOM points prior to this.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/01.jpg

Behind there are 4 more riders trying to bridge across pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Kanepejs and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Gonzalez (+0’17), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Le Huitouze (+0’29) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Tejada (+0’43). Peleton at 1’45 with Duvel on the front so looks like we might have the break of the day.

Those 7 come together just before the second Cat 3 and Gaburro takes the points ahead of Tejada and Gonzalez. Tejada started the day in 5th in the KOM, those points move him up to 3rd but he needs another 13 to take 2nd and 33 to take the lead. None of the others in the break had any points before today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/02.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Dyrnes made a brief attempt to join the break and failed and with the gap out to 3’28 with 154k to go this does seem like the break of the day.

At the first sprint point with 143k to go the lead is up to 5’56. The break doesn’t contest the sprint. MOL (Stash), Duvel (Ju) and Bralirwa (Hodeg) controlling things in the peloton.

At the next Cat 3 the points go to Gabburo, Nesset and Gonzales.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/03.jpg

Tejada goes earlier on the next Cat 3 but has to settle for 3rd as Gabburo and Gonzales pass him. Gabburo the best KOM scorer so far, he is up to 20 points, good for 9th place. Peloton at 5’49.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/04.jpg

Gabburo takes maximum again at the next Cat 3. This time ahead of Oka and Gonzales. Tejada not making up the ground as quick as he would have hoped. Over half the Cat 3s gone now. Peleton at 5’23 with 107k to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/05.jpg

Tejada goes early at the next Cat 3 and gets maximum. Nesset 2nd and then Oka. Peloton at 4’33, with about 30k of valley roads before the next KOM that could close fast.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/06.jpg

With 69k to go and 4k to the KOM the peloton have the lead down to 3’36. Nesset briefly attacked his breakaway companions but was quickly brought back. Bralirwa and Mol doing most of the chasing, nobody has been dropped yet.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/07.jpg

Gabburo gets back to winning ways at KOM #7. Nesset and Oka behind him. Gaburro is up to 6th overall in the KOM.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/08.jpg

With 56k there is the first split in the peloton. Trans (Munoz, 13th on GC, and Rucigaj 19th) and Podium Ambition (Croes, 6th and Laganne, 14th) the biggest victims. Trans does still have Govekar (16th) up front and the gap is small at the moment. Minions contributing the chase in the front of the split.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/09.jpg

Gaburro just edges Tejada and Gonzales and the next Cat 3. Peloton at 2’55, the split persisting for now. Tejada now tied for second in the KOM with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Wackermann. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Traeen still in first by 20 points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/10.jpg

The peloton reforms on the climb and splits again on the descent. The same riders in trouble.

At the final Cat 3 Tejada grabs 4 more KOM points, just ahead of Gonzales, to move into sole possession of 2nd place. Gabburo first on the climb, he is up to 4th in the KOM overall.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/11.jpg

The 96-rider peloton crosses 3’32 later. None of the dropped riders have rejoined. 37k to go for the peloton. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates is dropped over the top but this time his team shows some interest and quickly closes the gap.

The break rolls through the second KOM with a lead of 2’46. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Kanepejs and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Le Huitouze were dropped on the last climb. About 4k to the Cat 2 which is 7.3k at 5.5%.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/12.jpg

With 3k still to the top pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Conci brings the break back. Nobody else dropped from the GC top 20, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Kukrle, the Yellow Jersey still sitting comfortably in about 3rd wheel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/13.jpg

1.3k from the top pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Van Niekerk launches the first attack. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Hoelgaard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Eiking try to follow.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/14.jpg

Van Niekerk takes the 10 KOM points, he has 8 seconds on Eiking, 17 on Hoelgaard and 32 on the peloton which is being led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot. Pelton down to 48 but the GC top 20 all still there aside from those dropped much earlier. Kukrle now struggling to stay with them. Van Niekerk has 8k of mostly descending before the final climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/15.jpg

10 riders are dropped over the top, Kukrle the only GC top 20 man among them. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Cerny drops back to try and help him.

An attack from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa brings back Hoelgaard while Eiking rejoins Van Niekerk. Those two have 20 seconds as they pass under the 10k banner. Conci chasing again.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/16.jpg

The attackers are caught and a group of 38 start the final climb together. The first 4 are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Storer, Van Niekerk, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Quita and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Faglum Karlsson.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/17.jpg

Just over 6k to go and 14 more riders are dropped, although nobody from the GC top 20. Conci is among the dropped riders but he has done a lot of work as are Amezawa and Yates, who haven’t, but seem exhausted none the less. Bralirwa still have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Tesfatsion and McCormick, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Osorio in the front group. Neither team’s strategy has been very coherent this race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Eiking (18th) on GC is the next highly placed rider to be dropped. Good news for him is he won’t lose that much ground as there are only 17 riders left in the front group and one of them is his teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/19.jpg

The group stays together until about 2k to go when it splits apart. 9 left up front: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Van Niekerk, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Storer, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Tesfatsion, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Errazkin, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tlt.png Govekar, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Conti, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Powless, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke. The group a mix of diesel climbers and more punchy riders plus Conti who had a big swig of the Bianchi juice this morning. With pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Faglum Karlsson dropped Powless is the virtual GC leader.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/20.jpg

Under the 1k banner still the same 9 although Conti just hanging on. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Rodriguez, 28 seconds down, is next on the road. Looks like the stage winner and new GC leader will come from the front 9.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/21.jpg

700 meters Benoot launches an attack with Tesfatsion on his wheel. Conti seems to have recovered now it is Lunke in trouble.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/22.jpg

One more bend, Benoot has the lead from Tesfatsion. Powless showing a good turn of speed in third. Then Storer and Van Niekerk.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/23.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot wins stage 6, no dodgy photo finish camera can deny him today. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Tesfatsion maybe justifies Bralirwa’s decision with 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/24.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Powless gets third ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Storer and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Van Niekerk. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Errazkin is 6th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/25.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke recovers to pass pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Conti for 7th. Still an outstanding ride and some points for the Bianchi man. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tlt.png Govekar is 9th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S6/26.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/sct.png Rodriguez completes the top 10.

Powless opens up a 25 second lead in the GC, ahead of Lunke. Storer with a quiet 3rd, just 2 seconds down on Lunke.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Quita leads the points ahead of Benoot.

Goverkar’s white jersey lead up to 16 minutes, now ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Page.

Bianchi still have the team’s lead. CT teams still have 2 in the top 4 with Air New Zealand sitting 4th.
