Stage 2 Report

Stage 2 of the Tour de Pologne is the first of 4 hilly stages. And probably the easiest one. It does include 3 Cat 3s and 3 Cat 2s (technically one climb of each type done three times). There is also a climb to the finish at Karpatka but no KOM points there. One sprint point along the way as the riders go 169k. It seems too hard for Yellow Jersey pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Kukrle so a new leader today perhaps.

The favorites are:

The first 8 attackers get free to form the break of the day with 10k gone. They are: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Renard, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Johanson, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Traeen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zordan, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Feldmann, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Gautherat, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Buck-Gramcko. Buck-Gramcko the only PCT representative.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/01.jpg

Renard wins the first Cat 3 ahead of Zordan and Traeen. Peloton at 5’55 with 138 to go. Duvel taking responsibility in the peloton right now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/02.jpg

Duvel let the lead go out to almost 7 minutes before upping the pace and with 110k to go they have it back to 5’10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/03.jpg

At the second Cat 3 Traeen edges Zordan and Gautherat.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/04.jpg

At the third Cat 3 Zordan gets the win ahead of his teammate, Zana and Renard. Zordan leads now with 14 points to Renard and Traeen on 8. Zalgiris helping the chase now and the lead is down to 3’19. 83k to go, the sprint point and then the 3 Cat 2’s come in quick succession.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/05.jpg

Renard proves to be the best sprinter in the break, beating Gautherat and Traeen. The lead went back over 4 minutes but is now back to 3’17. 17k to the first ascent of the Cat 2.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/06.jpg

Onto the lower slopes of the Cat 2. Break at 2’40 with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/zal.png Olesen leading the pack. Up front pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Traeen has a small gap on the rest of the break while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Johanson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Feldmann have been dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/07.jpg

Traeen just takes the points ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zordan. Then it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zana, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Renard, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tzk.png Buck-Gramcko. Right now Zordan leads Traeen 22-18 in the KOM point competition.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/08.jpg

The peloton reaches the top 3’10 down, only a handful of riders dropped. Up front it is Zordan, Zana, Renard and Traeen together. But Zana is dropped early in the next ascent.

Traeen attacks near the top to take maximum points and get a small gap on the other two. Renard is second which means Traeen and Zordan are now tied on 28 with Renard on 20.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/09.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/zal.png Roman leads the peloton across 3’31 behind. Still 176 riders in the peloton. The front 3 are back together. 45k to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/10.jpg

On the early slopes of the third ascent pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ple.png Zordan gives in. Disappointing for Parmalat, on paper he should have been the strongest.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/11.jpg

MOL (Pinzon) begin to help with the chase and with 37k to go the gap is 2’31.

With 500 meters before the final Cat 2 prime pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/kno.png Traeen strikes the decisive blow and pulls away from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Renard. Kone will get the KOM jersey tomorrow.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/12.jpg

With MOL upping the pace the peloton crosses just 1’28 behind. 35k of mostly flat roads before the finishing climb.

MOL does most of the work but the catch is made by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/zal.png Januskevicius with 26.7k to ride. The Yellow Jersey letting them know he is still here (as are 179 other riders)

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/13.jpg

With 24k to go there is short climb and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tlt.png Debesay puts in a dig. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa follows.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/anz.png Lilovski joins them and they open up about a 30 second gap. Podium Ambition and MOL take accountability behind.

The move is shut down with 16k to go but Amezawa and Lilovski immediately try again with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Hoelgaard joining this time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/15.jpg

The second attack comes to an end with 11k to go as MOL (Rhim, Carretero Milan, Le Gac and Benoot) comes to the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/16.jpg

With 9k to a new attack from Lilovski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tlt.png Govekar and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/taf.png Dyrnes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/17.jpg

That is quickly shut down by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Postma which triggers another attack this one from Hoelgaard, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Watson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/esk.png Stocek. Podium Ambition quickly track that one down and with 5k to ride there are 166k riders together at the front.

With 4.4k to go, and still 1k or so to the final climb Dyrnes, Govekar and Lilovski try again. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Le Court can be seen pulling pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Lagane to the front behind on the right.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/18.jpg

Podium Ambition are tired of chasing and this time Lagane bridges up to the attackers. Next on the road are Watson and Stocek.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/19.jpg

As they turn onto the finishing climb it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/zal.png Lutsenko leading the chase, with the gap to the front 4 at just 12 seconds. Behind Lutsenko are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Potocki and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Quita.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/20.jpg

2k to climb it is almost over for the attackers. Among top GC riders the best placed are Lutsenko and Quita, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Van Niekerk (Back right of the five Minions in picture), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Faglum Karlsson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Errazkin on the left, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates, in the British champions colors in the middle and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Eiking, furthest back of the four Gjensidige riders. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Powless is just out of the picture but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot is about 30 riders back and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa is even further back in the pack

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/21.jpg

Approaching the 1k banner. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke leading it for Eiking, Quita and Lagane to Eiking’s left. Then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Van Niekerk and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Kipkemboi. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Godon accelerated on the right but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mck.png Yates opted not to follow him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/22.jpg

Eiking cracks, Lunk is riding for himself now. Lagane, Quita and Van Niekerk on his wheel. Then it is Kipkemboi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Verschaeve, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/tlt.png Govekar. Behind them Errazkin, Faglum Karlsson and Godon. Lutsenko and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/hvc.png Storer lead the next little group. The only gap right now is after the first 100 riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/23.jpg

400 meters, Lunke still on the front, the two Minions riders and Quita behind him. Gradients are around 10%. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/mol.png Benoot has got himself vaguely into the picture in the bottom right.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/24.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Quita accelerates past Lunke with 200 meters to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/25.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/spz.png Quita wins Stage 2. He was well positioned throughout and was the only one left with anything at the end. There are currently no gaps among the first 160 riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/26.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/gct.png Lunke hangs on for 2nd ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Van Niekerk and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Kipkemboi. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/min.png Cepeda Hernandez gives Minions 3 men in the top 10 with 6th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/blt.png Errazkin is 5th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/27.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/ofg.png Verschaeve gets 7th for Fox God. Then it s not a race unless Bianchi gets some points, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/enb.png Miltiadis is in 8th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/t3a.png Lagane and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/dvt.png Faglum Karlsson close out the top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Reports/C1/Pologne/S2/28.jpg

Quita gets a 10 second gap. The next gap is awarded after 59 riders with the next group losing a hefty 1’49. That is good news for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/iec.png Kukrle who makes the split and retains both race lead but bad news for Bralirwa as both pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Amezawa and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/brc.png Tesfatsion (and the rest of the team) all miss it.

Faglum Karlsson scores just enough points to take over that jersey. Govekar leads the young rider competition from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2025/Micros/cko.png Del Toro and Gjensidige take over the team’s lead.
