Will we have a fourth different stage winner today? Will someone else join the break for once?
We have at least one fresh face in the first attack of the day where Sheffield joins the former break alumni Oshri and Gilmore. But the peloton is still chasing those three hard, so the usual suspects will probably have another go soon.
The three attackers were caught in the end and two neo-pros got away to make their first impression. Joung and Al Mutaiwei will also rise in the U25 classification if they aren’t dropped later.
Joung wins the first KoM sprint after a hard fight.
It’s the same result at the first intermediate sprint.
Grosu takes the last second there.
Joung makes it 3/3 in the second KoM sprint, propelling him into 3rd in this classification.
The attackers are brought back with 38 km to go. The last intermediate sprint is also still on the table about halfway to the finish.
Coquard, Enger and Riabushenko take the points and seconds there.
We have a new picture as Ewan has a big train working for him with 10 km to go.
But with 5 km to go the usual suspects are back and we have 4 trains again.
Under the kite the last leadouts are still in front.
And with 500 m to go the sprint is on. Ewan is the virtual leader now (the actual one is still leadout man Coutinho) with Dainese, Walls and Einhorn his biggest rivals.
With 200 m to go Ewan leads. Einhorn is by his side, but Coquard on the right seems to be the fastest.
And the Frenchman takes his second win! Einhorn finishes in a strong 2nd place, Ewan takes 3rd place which should be enough to stay in yellow.
Behind them Kamberaj, Dainese and Willwohl finish in 4th to 6th. Riabushenko, Walls, Liu and Nommela complete the top 10.
Coquard adds the green jersey to his second stage win. All other classification leaders remain the same.
