As we near the end of the season, the riders have made their way to Canada for the first classic of the final month of the season. This race should suit the punchers, and there sure are some strong ones at the start line today.

Eleven riders make their way into the break of the day. They are
With 100 km to go, Vesuvio, Everesting, Lidl, Evonik and cycle Yorskhire are at the front, trying to chase down the break. The current gap is 3'37". The peak gap was 6 minutes.
The break's lead is down to 1'58" with 40km to go. Huby have been dropped and caught by the peloton.
The peloton is down to just 33! Muller, Kron, Sepulveda, Meurisse, Bobridge, Narvaez and Geniets are the stronger riders dropped.
Lopez, Mohoric and Vansevenant launch the first attack among the favourites just a kilometer later.
The peloton is further reduced to 21. Van Niekerk and Evenepoel are the latest among the stronger riders to be dropped.
The attackers are caught with 31km to go.
Nine kilometers later, Romo, Van der Poel, Bettiol and Polanc are dropped.
Varga is caught with 14 km to go.
The rest of the break is caught a kilometer later.
Lopez attacks again with 11 km to go. Mohoric, Vanevenant, Stannard, Areruya and Gidich are the nearest chasers.
All the attackers are brought back a couple of kilometers later.
Lagane, R. Oliveira, Kachur, Sequera and Davies are now dropped.
Stannard attacks with 7 km to go. Mohoric is the only one chasing. The gap to the pack is 35 seconds.
4 kilometers. 31 seconds is the advantage for the leading duo to the chase group, which now consists of Gidich, Hirschi, Buchmann, Gesbert, Vansevenant, Areruya, Gerts, Lopez, Madouas, McCarthy, De Bie, Yates, Edmondson and Ackermann.
The gap is down just a bit to 28 seconds with 2 km to go for the two leaders.
The gap is reduced further still, but it's still 25 seconds with just 800 meters left for Stannard and Mohoric. It looks to be a battle between these two for the win!
Stannard still leads, which he has mostly done since the attack by the two leaders. Can Mohoric turn it around right at the end?
The answer is no! Stannard takes a great and important win for his team. Mohoric is 2nd, also a good result for him.
400 meters left for the chase group. Hirschi is leading the sprint from Vansevenant, Buchmann and Gesbert.
Vansevenant is the strongest in the sprint and takes 3rd.
Buchmann is 4th, followed by Gesbert and a tiring Hirschi.
Yates is 7th followed by Edmondson, De Bie and Areruya who take positions 8th to 10th.
Madouas edges out Lopez for 11th.
Gerts, Gidich and Ackermann complete the Top 15.

A huge result today in terms of the top positions. Stannard's win could be huge in his team's quest for survival. Mohoric turns around a mediocre season to get his best result so far. Buchmann grabs solid points in his team's quest for promotion. Hirschi also helps his team's chances of staying up. Edmondson keeps his team's title hopes on track.
