GP Plouay

Welcome to another edition of GP Plouay. The race has been out of the calender since 2015, but returned last year. This year the riders will repeat the same 200+ kilometers of rolling terrain. Some bumps towards the end might allow the punchier riders to evade the expected bunch sprint and secure the victory, however.
| Name | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | Rudy Barbier | 75 | 72 | 71 | 77 | 79 | Riccardo Minali | 73 | 70 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Bram Welten | 76 | 72 | 71 | 79 | 75 | Erik Baska | 76 | 70 | 76 | 76 | 77 | Hugo Hofstetter | 74 | 71 | 71 | 77 | 78 | Nur Aiman Zariff | 70 | 71 | 67 | 80 | 80 | Willi Willwohl | 73 | 71 | 67 | 79 | 78 | Cameron Scott | 72 | 72 | 71 | 78 | 78 | Mikiel Habtom | 74 | 73 | 73 | 76 | 76 | Mustafa Carsi | 70 | 66 | 69 | 80 | 82 |
Barbier could be a strong contender, if the race ends with a sprint. However, he might be hindered by his poor climbing abilities just like many of the other sprinters. Hofstetter might be one of the better contenders in that regard.
I almost left Carsi out of the preview, but who dares when the man got such a powerful finish.
| Name | FL | HI | ST | AC | FG | Willie Smit | 72 | 75 | 76 | 74 | 81 | Gianni Moscon | 71 | 80 | 76 | 73 | 71 | Quinten Hermans | 73 | 75 | 75 | 76 | 73 | Rok Korosec | 71 | 75 | 74 | 78 | 70 | Andrea Vendrame | 72 | 76 | 75 | 75 | 67 | Calvin Watson | 70 | 78 | 76 | 72 | 73 | Bachirou Nikiema | 69 | 77 | 72 | 76 | 74 | O. Lecourt De Billot | 75 | 69 | 74 | 74 | 81 | Joel Yates | 71 | 78 | 77 | 69 | 73 | Jernej Svab | 70 | 76 | 70 | 78 | 68 |
This race might be good for the puncheurs, with one of the more aggressive of them being Smit. He might lack the top-power which Moscon can muster, or perhaps the finish is better suited for an allrounder like Hermans?
If I were to pick a favorite it would have to be either Vendrame or one of the best CT riders of the season: Korosec
| Name | FL | HI | ST | AC | FG | Yikui Niu | 72 | 72 | 76 | 74 | 73 | Guy Sagiv | 77 | 73 | 73 | 72 | 66 | Luca Wackermann | 74 | 74 | 74 | 72 | 70 | Ruben Guerreiro | 71 | 77 | 73 | 72 | 61 | Xianjing Lyu | 67 | 77 | 75 | 74 | 71 | Zico Waeytens | 69 | 79 | 70 | 71 | 75 | S. Chatarunga | 72 | 67 | 79 | 68 | 80 |
You should never underestimate strong riders like Guerreiro
and Lyu even though the parcour is probably too easy for them to really shine. Another outsider is Niu, who might be happy with a top 10, but he could be sneaky good in this race. On the contrary, I don't have much trust in Waeytens, but his 79 hill-stat qualifies him to be mentioned. We also need to remember someone like Chatarunga who is always looking for another oppotunity to attack for the win. Lastly, I'd like to highlight Wackermann as we are getting closer to Zuri...

Would love to see some turtles in the breakaway here but I could see Tivani getting a good result just like last year as well. These "hilly" flat races should be a spot where we can survive either in the breakaway or by being a dark horse sprinter. Let's just hope for a fun race!
Thanks for the preview!

The puncheur/Wackermann move didn't work last season, so we've brought Hofstetter with us. He's got all what's needed to shine, I think and hope.
One of our last big races, so the win is the goal. And for the sponsors too.
Good luck everyone, thanks for the preview.

Quite a packed startlist and agree with the preview (thanks Caspi) that the route will be a bit too easy for the likes of Lyu. Hopefully Hermans or Noppe or Van Lerberghe can sneak into a breakaway and take advantage from there.
Ideally we take advantage of this opportunity to get some points on Genii in the promotion race with our extra RDs, but I can absolutely see this going the way of some of the earlier C2 classics with a flukey PCT result

Just a messed up bit of planning from myself and not understanding how PCM22 works, Moscon will be completely ineffective here we probably hoping for Grosser to be allowed to be near the front of the group as the race whittles down for any hope of points. In hindsight Houle would have been the right pick here but can't change the past now
With that in mind ISA have a huge chance of picking something up here with the amount of High Flat good hill riders they have in Anderson, Sagiv and Mraouni wouldn't be surprised if one of them attacks for the win
Sprint wise Welton makes the most sense to me but it would be wide open |

Well I’m really happy with Scott and his performance there! 6th place in such a selective race is excellent. Should get us some nice points as well. Happy with that from him! Thought I would have Svab a bit further up but not meant to be. Scott was excellent though!
Congrats to the winner on a hard fought day. And thanks for the great report!

Damn! Nearly got the right winner but done on the line
Moscon in 19th is probably a bit better then he had any right to be but just a planning mess up by myself

Unreal results!!! Nearly pipped by the PCT sandbaggers, but wow what a huge team effort to help the promotion bid!
Thanks for the report Abhi.
In my call-outs I missed Dewulf but I shouldn’t have forgotten the superdom, fantastic decision to make the attack and what determination to hold on, along with Hermans and Lyu picking up key points. You can’t win them all but it feels like we’ve had very good results consistently in the C2 classics, falling a bit short in the tours (aside from Dion Smith). So hopefully that bodes well for the season finale at Zuri Metzgete but really looking forward to the Tour du Faso in what could be a key race for the season.
Cheers for the congrats

Congrats Booker and thanks to Abhi for the report! Paulus in the break was okay, but finishing 28th to 30th wasn't good points wise

Love this parcours, seems like it always makes for interesting races although the roulers seem to have the edge.
Great ride by McCormick old boy Tivani, his kind of race.
Congrats to Booker on a great win.

Think the parcours should've suited Vendrame but I'd never trust the AI to get the strategy for that right, and that's indeed exactly what happened. English finishing so far ahead of him means we did something seriously wrong. Can't be too disappointed as we didn't send any of our team leaders but would've been nice to pick up at least a few points.

Very fun to read from my phone a few days ago but back on the PC to comment. I am truly surprised that our team didn't join the break, but clearly the race picked Tivani as a stage favorite as we even contributed to pulling the break back a few times.
As UU said, I really love the way this race is able to balance between breakaway, rouleurs, and sprinters, as we had a similar-ish scenario last year. Tivani did sprint well out of the pack last year too, but this year it's for an even better result. Tivani has certainly struggled to find his place this year given no ToA for us and just having to give up top sprinter status to Keough (even though we would prefer otherwise).
Either way, a great report so many thanks for the smiles it's brought us.

Ouch, poor result considering our roster. Guess the AI did us dirty by prioritizing Zariff (and Mundle) - both Nikiema and Smit outside top 100...
Like others, I did like the parcour. Thanks for the report
