31 km of time-trialing in the formidable Trouée d’Arenberg are on the menu today. The bookies don’t think the time-trialists will be too troubled though. Let’s see what happens.
Riders 1 to 33 – Chrono 1
Pedersen is not too bad a time-trialist, but he’s a world class cobbler; He sets a first time of 18’24. He’s beaten by 3 seconds by Perez, who’s not too bad a cobbler but his decent on the TT bike, so that seems to confirm the bookmakers sight.
On the other hand, Summerhill is a bad time-trialist and that shows: he loses one minute.
Siddikov next beats the best time by 7 seconds: 18’12. That’s beaten by Kung: 18’10.
Stavrakakis wraps up this bunch. He’s tied with Kung.
Riders 34 to 66 – Chrono 1
Tiller opens this bunch with a time of 18’38.
But all eyes already are on Gamper, who expectedly takes the lead: 18’02. Lampawog comes 5 seconds short.
Anderberg is one of the other favorites. He slots in the same time than Gamper.
Van Baarle (+0’05) or Scotson (+0’07) aren’t far off.
The pure time-trialists, Ganna, Mullen and Dunbar finish the run. They lose respectively 2, 3 and 6 seconds. Let’s see if they can recover this.
Riders 1 to 33 – Finish
Pedersen’s final time is 36’08. That’s beaten by Perez: 36’01.
Kung then takes the hot seat with 35’37, while Krul takes provisional 4th : 36’06.
Riders 34 to 66 – Finish
Gamper takes the hot seat with a nice margin: 35’22. Anderberg isn’t far, but clearly 2nd: he loses 2 seconds in the second part of the race.
Ganna ends up 10 seconds off the pace. Mullen is 14 seconds late, which means that Gamper can begins to celebrate.
And indeed, Gamper wins the Chrono d’Arenberg: Dunbar loses 20 seconds.
