Fraile was the first rider to set a time of any real significance using his TT ability to good effect on the bottom of the climb and just holding his form up the brutal mountain to finish. That he only finished 21st after putting minutes into the others early on really emphasised this was a day

Fung was the first rider to really break the the top level of the field riding strong on both sections and finishing the day 12th on the stage.

We move onto to the first times to threaten the top 15. Darbellay had a strong late hit out and would finish 13th on the stage. The man trying to catch him was flying though as Tenorio finally put in a big ride in this race finishing the day 7th on the stage although only moving up one place in the GC.

Here is the current top 20 with only the top 20 in GC left to pass us on the finishing line today.

First through the line was Girdlestone a time of 36"13 for him a good 33" behind Tenorio but enough to move up 2 spots in the GC to 18th.

Vervaeke was next to cross but his time 36"40 wasn't anything outstanding it did leave him 19th in the GC by the end of the day.

Kirsch came in next and matched his teammate's time of 36"13 an excellent day overall he will move up 3 spots on GC to 15th.

Carboni would be the next man over the line and though he would lose his place to Kirsch clocking 36"24 he would also move up on GC to 16th overall.

Ardila had started the tour in fine form though cracked on yesterdays mountain stage. He had a good ride today matching the Vesuvio men at 36"13 and moving up a few spots to 14th overall.

Here we see the first of our top 20 riders really struggling Ries doesn't have the TT skills on the flat roads before the climb and paid a heavy price 37"58 just cracks the top 80 on the stage he would move down to 22nd on GC.

Behind him and catching him on the road was Senni he went slightly quicker then previous efforts at 36"06 moving up to 13th overall.

Behind these two though our first ride to really blow the competition apart. Geoghegan Hart storms up the climb 35"24 isn't quite good enough to win the stage but moves up to 11th overall by the end of the day.

Choi was the first of the top 10 to go over the line. not quite at the leader's levels but 35"46 is good enough to gain a few places up to 8th in GC.

Rodrigues was next over the line and went 3 seconds quicker than Choi to save his place on GC 35"43 he would also move up a few spots on GC to 7th on GC.

Our two breakaway rider from yesterday have contrasting fortune today

Arndt loses a lot of time throughout and doesn't crack the top 100 for the stage with his TT abilities really hampering him he's down to 17th overall after today.

While Cort Nielsen holds well against the better climbers behind and although he slips to 9th overall by the end of the day that is still a great result for the Dane and more points then he will have expected.
