Hanko Classic (C1) - Preview
Welcome to Finland for the flat Hanko Classic! Seventh edition of the race now, which has been won by six different riders so far. Last year Indosat won the Hanko Classic with Abdul Halil, who won't be defending his title. 2022 winner Lionel Coutinho (for Assa Abloy) will try to be the first rider to win this race twice, riding for Specialized this time around. Let's have a look at the parcours.
Flat it is. We expect a sprint, but of course a late attack always stands a chance as well. although the very flat profile makes it even harder to stay away from a storming peloton. Let's have a look at the best sprinters in the race.
| Nat. | Name | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | | Coquard Bryan | 73 | 71 | 74 | 84 | 83 | | Vesely Daniel | 73 | 74 | 68 | 81 | 80 | | Farantakis Stylianos | 74 | 75 | 72 | 81 | 80 | | Zabel Rick | 74 | 74 | 70 | 81 | 79 | | Ahlstrand Jonas | 72 | 71 | 70 | 81 | 79 | | Enger Sondre Holst | 73 | 71 | 73 | 81 | 78 | | Carsi Mustafa | 70 | 66 | 69 | 80 | 82 | | Bonifazio Niccolo | 79 | 68 | 75 | 80 | 80 | | Liu Jiankun | 74 | 76 | 69 | 80 | 80 | | Zariff Nur Aiman | 70 | 71 | 67 | 80 | 80 | | Aniolkowski Stanislaw | 76 | 76 | 74 | 80 | 79 | | Einhorn Itamar | 74 | 71 | 71 | 80 | 78 | | Afewerki Elias | 73 | 77 | 70 | 79 | 80 | | Coutinho Lionel | 72 | 75 | 74 | 79 | 80 | | Nur Hasan Sandy | 74 | 74 | 74 | 79 | 78 | | Kamberaj Xhuliano | 75 | 73 | 73 | 79 | 78 | | Willwohl Willi | 73 | 71 | 67 | 79 | 78 | | Contreras Emiliano | 72 | 73 | 75 | 78 | 80 | | Kulikovskiy Alexandr | 73 | 70 | 73 | 78 | 79 | | Losch Max | 73 | 72 | 68 | 78 | 79 |
Top sprinter Coquard is the big favourite as in most races he is in this season, but Zalgiris' Vesely and ELCO - ABEA's Farantakis will be trying to show him who the real PCT boss is.
Zabel, Ahlstrand and Enger are three similar riders with an okay stamina and resistance and better sprint than acceleration. Ahlstrand will also try to win this race for the second time, after having won in 2019 for Volvo.
Then we have four riders who have both 80+ sprint and acceleration, but lack some skills in at least one of the two physical compartments. Nevertheless, at least three of them have shown they have what it takes to win a race this season, and all of them have won one or multiple races in the previous seasons. Can any of Carsi, Bonifazio, Liu or Zariff take the win?
Below them we have four guys who are not 80+ in both sprinting and accelerating, but have decent or even excellent physical stats, and all of them also having won at least one race in the last two seasons. Let's see what Aniolkowski Einhorn, Afewerki and former winner Coutinho have to offer tomorrow.
Some other outsiders below them as well, theoretically not the biggest favourites, but what is theory worth on a Finnish road? The only thing that counts is crossing the Finnish finish line first.
A quick look at the rouleurs can't hurt.
| Nat. | Name | FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | | Arashiro Yudai | 81 | 71 | 67 | 70 | 75 | | Quispe Alain | 81 | 63 | 61 | 67 | 74 | | Cherkasov Nicolay | 80 | 72 | 74 | 70 | 75 | | Bonifazio Niccolo | 79 | 68 | 75 | 80 | 80 | | Suter Joel | 79 | 75 | 74 | 68 | 74 | | Boutopoulos Georgios | 78 | 73 | 75 | 73 | 78 | | Mundle Benedikt | 78 | 67 | 71 | 58 | 67 |
Including sprinter bonifazio these are the +78 rouleurs at the startline. From the top-3 rouleurs it seems like none of them really has a top top top sprinter to worry about, so they might get some freedom. And you never know what happens then.
Good luck to all, startlist in the spoiler below.

Now Enger, we need you to perform, almost on home soil as well
Thank you Nemo for the extensive preview, really good to read! |

Happy to be back to racing aftera few weeks of downtime, even if it's with a sprinter that doesn't even make the list of favorites Hopefully Feiereisen at least participates in the sprint and maybe sneaks into the Top 15. And ideally, we're in the breakaway as well on the off-chance that is successful.
Thanks for the preview, looking forward to the report!

Hoping for a Kulikovskiy overperformance, as always.
Thanks for the preview

Gotta hope Farantakis will make one of his rare successes here.

Hard to get excited about this course nothing particularly happened KM 10 - 190
Little flat attacks after the break caught though probably due to the ease of the race the sprint teams had the energy to keep everyone together
Lotto sprint train by far the strongest but launched a good 0.6/0.7km in game too early
Big advantage to be in the back row in the sprint because of this I think all the top 5 bar 1 where not in the first two rows as the sprint was launched
Awesome sprint timing by Coquard did feel very cool to watch him slice through the pack in the last 1km |

Thanks for the report, nice to see Couqard still being a beast.
Coutinho is an absolute mess at the moment however, slightly disgraceful performance from him.

Thanks jt for the report and the notes
Indeed not a good timing here, which I feared for when I saw we were the leading train. Full focus on the PTHC stage races now!
And congrats DW with the win!

I guess not...
Congrats to Coquard though! Nice when the obvious favorite actually takes the win.

Well, one of those two things happened ... The complete failure to bring in a good sprinter during transfers continues to haunt me, even if Feiereisen so far has done okay given his skillset. Just have to get through the season on that front, nothing to do about it now. Congrats to Coquard and thanks for the report!

Einhorn being consistent and getting me another top 10 finish is always a help in our quest to avoid being dragged down into the relegation fight

Wow oh wow, we’ve had some pretty rough results recently, but this one is fairly shocking. Obviously Zhao couldn’t hang, and we got exposed in a big way. The promising start to the season is fizzling a bit, we’ll need to gather some momentum soon I hope!

Not happy with 10th on Enger here, we really needed a better result when we brought our best sprint team.
But great job by Coquard, congrats! A solid victory
Thank you JT as well. Exciting last pictures there. Great report! |
