Stage 3 Report


Stage 3 is 176k of tough climbing but no summit finish, last year 14 riders sprinted for the stage win – Calmejane won. You can’t win the race today but you can lose it, a big test for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2024/Micros/min.png Cattaneo today.

A ton of KOM points on offer with a Cat 1 and 5 Cat 3s. Similar finish to yesterday with the last Cat 3 peaking about 8k from the finish.

The organizers think Lagane has a chance to go back-to-back.

The break forms pretty quickly. A few k later the back two are able to join to make it a 5-man break. With 150k to go their lead goes out to 2’50.

At the first Cat 3 Gaze only manages 3rd behind Okbamarian and Murillo. Peloton at 4’50 with Podium Ambition near the front supporting Minions.

Gaze adds a sprint point victory to his list. This time ahead of Vinokurov. Peloton at 3’12, there have been a few splits but nothing permanent.

Gaze takes the next Cat 3 as well. This time with a small gap, Murillo and Okbamarian are closest. Peloton at 2’13 with 43k to go. Gaze now leads the KOM 50-22 ahead of Murillo.

Gap is measured at 1’01. Vinokurov and Belohvosciks were dropped from the break on the last climb and have been caught.

No time gaps are given until 169th but Cattaneo does take over the leader’s jersey based on placings. Minions still with the top 4 on GC so they are racking up the placings points - that should change in the TT tomorrow. Korosec leads Lagane in points 37-30. Blum still leads the young rider jersey and Minions the teams.
