Cullaigh took the win yesterday and took over the GC lead by the narrowest of margins from erstwhile leader Ewan, who sits in 2nd. Both teams have a decent TTT outfits but they're not among the top favourites, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
Fastned are the first team on the road. Can they set a Fast benchmark?
Their opening time is 8'43" at the first intermediate.
Everesting is 14 seconds slower.
Evonik is slightly better at 9 seconds.
UBS are just off the pace, slower by a single second.
Sauber too, are just a second off the top.
Popo4Ever are 15 seconds down.
Manada lose 12 seconds.
Ekoi are just a bit better at 10 seconds.
Zalgiris are much worse off at 21 seconds slower than the best. They've already somewhat distanced four of their riders.
Assa Abloy lose 5 seconds so far.
Podium Ambition tie the best time!
Bralirwa are not that good and lose 9 seconds.
Specialized are slower still at 13 seconds.
Tafjord do better though, losing 3 seconds.
ISA Hexacta are even better at 2 seconds.
Rabobank have lost 7 seconds in the first sector.
cycleYorkshire set the new best time of 8'37".
Tryg have lost 17 seconds so far.
Xero are better at 5 seconds.
Puma are somewhat worse off, down 8 seconds.
Lidl post the same time as the previous team.
Vesuvio, the top favourites better the best time to 8'33".
King Power slot into 2nd, just 2 seconds down on the best.
McCormick have a lot to make up at 23 seconds.
Here are the standings after the first intermediate:
EA Vesuvio 8'33" King Power 8'35" cycleYorkshire 8'37 Xero 8'42 Fastned 8'43" Podium Ambition 8'43" UBS 8'44" Sauber 8'44" ISA-Hexacta 8'45" Puma 8'45" Lidl 8'45" Tafjord 8'46" Assa Abloy 8'48" Rabobank 8'50" Evonik 8'52" Bralirwa 8'52" Ekoi 8'53" Tryg 8'54" Manada 8'55" Specialized 8'56" McCormick 8'56" Everesting 8'57" Popo4Ever 8'58" Zalgiris 6'4"
Fastned didn't have a great second sector. They post a time of 16'24".
Everesting are 17 seconds slower still.
Evonik take the lead with a time of 16'16".
UBS immediately better that by a margin. Their time is 15'53".
Sauber can't keep up and end up losing 17 seconds.
Popo4Ever are a long way down at 38 seconds.
Manada are a further seconds off the pace.
Ekoi lose 20 seconds for the moment.
Zalgiris make up some postions but are still 31 seconds down.
Assa Abloy don't have a good second sector and end up losing 29 seconds.
Podium Ambition come close to the best time but end just a second slower.
Bralirwa lose even more time to be 45 seconds down at the finish.
Specialized end up losing 27 seconds but will gain a few positions in the second half.
Tafjord have a Jekyll and Hyde performance, with the second sector completely ruining their effort on the first. They end up losing 41 seconds.
ISA-Hexacta ties the best time!
Rabobank however fall off a cliff and lose 52 seconds.
cycleYorkshire also struggle somewhat in the second sector and end up 11 seconds down. Cullaigh gives up his position to Ewan for sure.
Tryg loses very little in the second half, but is still 19 seconds off the pace.
Xero also run out of gas in the closing stages, losing 20 seconds at the finish.
Puma, likewise, end up losing 27 seconds.
Lidl however do hold on for a better second half. They are 11 seconds down for now.
No doubts about the ride from the top favourites though - Vesuvio storms to a new best time of 15'28, and a sure lead in the GC.
King Power isn't able to challenge closely at the end, but still post a good time just 6 seconds slower.
McCormick improve quite a bit in the second half, losing 36 seconds, but slotting into the Top 10.
Today's winner - EA Vesuvio.
Today's result puts Wirtgen in Yellow and six Vesuvio riders in the Top 6 of the GC! It might be a bloodbath here if the stage is not selective tomorrow. Vesuvio of course lead the Teams classification after today with Matsuda the new leader of the U25s.
