Welcome to Belgium, time for more cobbles! Joeri Stallaert has participated in four of the last five additions of this race, and won every time he was here. He's the record holder with four wins, and tomorrow he will try to make it five. The last three years he won the race for Bralirwa - Stevens, now known as Bralirwa - Cegeka. Out of four wins, twice he won a sprint of a group of around fifteen riders, once he did it solo, and last year he won a sprint a deux. One thing is certain, Joeri likes this race. Let's have a look at the profile and we know why.
Not a lot of hills, enough cobbles to make a selection but not be over selective, and around ten km after the last cobbled sector make the chance of this going to a sprint of a reduced group slightly bigger. That's what Stallaert loves to hear, but he's not the only rider who likes it. Let's have a look at the best cobblers who'll be present in Kuurne tomorrow.
| Nat. | Name | FL | ST | RS | CB | SP | AC | | Zepuntke Ruben | 72 | 79 | 72 | 82 | 72 | 65 | | Kasperkiewicz Przemyslaw | 76 | 75 | 77 | 81 | 59 | 67 | | Stallaert Joeri | 76 | 75 | 67 | 80 | 78 | 75 | | Gamper Patrick | 77 | 77 | 77 | 80 | 64 | 71 | | Daniel Maxime | 72 | 75 | 75 | 79 | 75 | 71 | | Jacobs Johan | 76 | 77 | 76 | 79 | 67 | 68 | | Summerhill Danny | 74 | 70 | 66 | 79 | 66 | 67 | | Debesay Mekseb | 74 | 73 | 77 | 78 | 68 | 76 | | Moulingui Clenne Morvan | 74 | 71 | 71 | 78 | 65 | 68 | | Owen Logan | 73 | 73 | 71 | 78 | 64 | 71 | | Richardson Chequan | 71 | 68 | 68 | 78 | 60 | 61 | | Orue German Anibal | 69 | 77 | 70 | 78 | 53 | 58 | | Ovsyannikov Alexandr | 74 | 75 | 72 | 77 | 79 | 78 | | Van Lerberghe Bert | 74 | 75 | 74 | 77 | 75 | 73 | | Ringheim Jo Kogstad | 71 | 73 | 69 | 77 | 72 | 73 | | Van Keirsbulck Guillaume | 71 | 74 | 72 | 77 | 69 | 67 | | Kortsidakis Michail | 77 | 75 | 75 | 77 | 68 | 72 | | Stavrakakis Georgios | 76 | 74 | 70 | 77 | 64 | 68 | | Nareklishvili Beka | 72 | 73 | 73 | 77 | 64 | 71 | | Kolev Iliyan | 75 | 73 | 71 | 77 | 62 | 67 |
Zepuntke has had a bad start to the season with weak results in both Wevelgem and Samyn. Third time might be the charm for the Würth German, who can count on Nareklishvili to control the peloton near the end. Kasperkiewicz and his team Specialized also left Belgium disappointed the last time they were here at Le Samyn, but the Polish rider also managed to win the Omloop. They'll be trying to make the race as selective as possible again. The same counts for Gamper, as Lierse will once again try to do well at home. Daniel did well in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and even well-er in Le Samyn. Just like Bralirwa - Cegeka we can imagine Ekoi hoping the race to come down to a sprint of a smaller group of cobblers.
The ELCO - ABEA cobbler department as well as Jacobs for UBS have proven they know how to get a result already this season, so both managers will be hoping for more points tomorrow as well. Same definitely goes for Debesay and JEWA - Tirol. Another African cobbler with at least one good result this season at the startline tomorrow is Moulingui. The Trans rider won the C2 GP Herning, and wants to prove himself at the C1 level as well now.
Owen and the SEE Turtles duo of Richardson and Orue did not show any noteworthy results yet this season, so let's see if they can improve a bit tomorrow. Right below them we see Ovsyannikov and Van Lerberghe for Tryg and Duvel. Not the best pure cobblers, but if they can hold on they can sprint for a podium or better. Both have already showed they know how to survive a cobbled race this season. Norwegian champion Ringheim was third in Herning and sixth in Kuurne last year. Another top-10 would be nice for him.
Full startlist below, report will be brought to you by Imladrik. Good luck to all!

I really need Gamper to step up here, but I fear it will be a sprint again.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Let’s hope we Can get back on track here after some dreadful riding recently.

I hope our Team and Ruben can make it hard enough so our captain has a chance for the win here. After the current season it would feel disappointing if its not at least podium though. But lets stay positive.
Thanks for the preview Nemo!

We have some decent cobblers, but none really good. Let's see how many depth points we can scramble together here.
Thanks alot Nemo! |

Hoping for an Omloop repeat and not a Samyn repeat for Kaspa, thanks for the preview!

Here's hope Daniel continues his great classic campaign with another top 5 result. But having expectations is risking disappointment, so it's mostly about enjoying the cobbles.

Thanks for the preview Nemolito and looking forward to the race. Hopefully we can score some solid C1 points again, after Viana do Castelo. Van Lerberghe, Roosen and Dewulf will hopefully have enough to keep up with the top cobblers and make it interesting with Stallaert et al at the finish.

Man, that's really unfortunate. Stallaert looked very strong, and this aggressive approach - despite having one of the fastest sprint finishes - has paid off before, so I can't be too upset with that, but today, it was just the wrong choice. Teggart in 15th makes up for some of the damage, but we can't leave too many points on the table like this or we might get into trouble.
Thank you for the nice report Imladrik and congrats to Bushwackers!

Better racing from Gamper, but again not really rewarded. Seems like a wasted training so far. Jacobs and Daniel haivng a much better season so far. Thanks for the report!

Pretty weird racing here by some of the favourites - in particular Stallaert, don't see the point in holding out as long as possible when you're the best sprinter anyway (OK, 2nd best nowadays). Attacking has often worked well, as pointed out by cunego, but when you see that you're doomed, better save some energy for the sprint...
Anyway, huge congrats to UBS, selling Spengler and spending on Jacobs is looking like a great choice in these first races
Also well done by Summerhill, surprised to see him get another podium, but apparently he shouldn't be written off too early. Just like Daniel, who's having a far better year than when he was maxed, really weird to see (but good for Ekoi that their risky gamble seems to pay off).
Thanks for the entertaining report

Wow! Jacobs has been stellar, first with 2nd in Omloop and now this. I think even at this point it is safe to say that moving on from Spengler was the correct move. Thank you Imladrik for the race and thanks for the congrats from others.

Congrats Bushwackers, Jacobs is doing really well this season!
Also thanks to Imladrik for the report, it's been quality in word and result as always
Daniel is doing really well this season, I hope he keeps his consistent scoring up - though I'm not that surprised he's doing better than in his maxed last season. The PCT cobblers field is clearly weaker than last season after most top cobblers promoted to PT one way or the other and I think he actually also profits from being the clear team leader instead of a co-leader last season. And with good team tactics (Costiou and Dunne in the breaks) and support (three domestiques in the top 20) he just can stay with the favourites to the finish and make use of his sprint.

A very nice race to watch - sad that the smaller groups didn't head to the line for Orue to grab a top 15 as opposed to 30th but two riders finding their way to the finish in that group still works for me.
Always interesting tactics in these races - congrats UBS

Nice report iamladrik, thanks for that, and congrats Bushwackers!
It’s good to see Van Lerberghe with some minor points, though Roosen didn’t quite hang on for depth scoring. Not a total waste, but not the level of performance we’ve been getting used to.

First thanks for the report and congrats to the succesful teams!
Oh Ruben, that was not what I wanted and even if its a few points thats again kinda disappointing. Beka also couldnt come into some meaningful points. Thats definitely a setback but at least it can mostly only get better from here on.
