Welcome to this hilly NC, it should be an easy win for Ian Boswell, but historically speaking he’s been Boswell-known for dropping the ball in recent years.
After the first two hills the peloton has been ripped apart. Biggest name missing from the front is Warbasse, who’s taking an off day together with Kuss in a group that’s more than 1 2 minutes down on the favourites.
Nothing really happens until the red kite where a group of 25 riders are trying to battle it out for the Stars and Stripes. Brandt launches the first attack.
400 metres from the finish line it’s Craddock who’s in narrow lead in the sprint as Dombrowski, Squire are gaining speed. Interestingly enough Hecht is also in the mix at the front as Boswell tries to find a way around the traffic.
Barta could have become a sprinter in his younger years and that experience seems to be doing him really well as he reaches a high top speed and creates some distance between him and the rest with 100 metres to go!
And he can throw his hands up in celebration as Dombrowski goes second ahead of Craddock.
Full results missing as I forgot to hit export.
Time Trial
The Time Trial should be quite the spectacle with no Phinney in the mix.
First favourite on the route is McNulty, the young American GC hope crosses the line in a time of 1 hour and 3 seconds.
Eaton was ever so slightly slower than McNulty at the checkpoints, but on the finish line he’s 2 seconds faster than Mcnulty and sets a new fastest time.
Tour of America winner Eastman had the fastest time at the second checkpoint but can’t beat his teammate’s time on the line as he goes S.T. but slower.
It doesn’t matter as pre race favourite Powless goes 15 seconds faster than both of them and claims the TT title for himself!
