Welcome to Italy! We will hold the 12th edition of the Giro del Trentino this year. Its only a short 3 Day event but because of this there isnt a single day to relax for the riders who wanna win here.
Starting with a not too long TTT, its important the the Leaders got the support and fresh legs of their team. On the second day we will finish at the top and here you can already lose all hopes if you arent at the front of the field.
At the final stage there are some big mountains in the way again. Maybe here some breakaway can have success. The Leader again need to make sure to not lose all what they gained the first 2 days.

Lets come to this years favorites then:
| | MO | HI | ST | RS | RC | AC | TTT | Berhane | Natnael | 80 | 74 | 75 | 72 | 71 | 66 | **** | Chiarello | William | 79 | 75 | 73 | 74 | 77 | 72 | **** | Garby | Marc Christian | 79 | 70 | 71 | 76 | 75 | 70 | *** | Fabbro | Matteo | 78 | 75 | 71 | 72 | 74 | 73 | *** | Alarcon | Jose | 78 | 67 | 62 | 65 | 64 | 69 | ***** | Manfredi | Andrea | 78 | 65 | 68 | 73 | 72 | 73 | ** | Mannion | Gavin | 77 | 71 | 72 | 76 | 65 | 71 | * | Iturria | Mikel | 77 | 73 | 77 | 74 | 76 | 61 | ***** | O'Connor | Ben | 77 | 70 | 70 | 72 | 75 | 68 | ***** | Aru | Fabio | 77 | 73 | 73 | 74 | 75 | 69 | | Roglic | Primoz | 77 | 73 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 69 | * | Schelling | Ide | 77 | 72 | 76 | 74 | 72 | 67 | **** | Verschaeve | Viktor | 76 | 73 | 76 | 75 | 75 | 71 | * | Paret-Peintre | Aurelien | 76 | 77 | 73 | 75 | 73 | 74 | ** |
With his great climbing skills Berhane is on top of this list. He also got really solid support for the TTT this time. ABout Chiarello we dont need to talk much, he has dominated the CT Stage races so far. ALso a really good climber Garby could battle for the overall win, though his Support for the TT isnt Top notch.
Fabbro and Manfredi Andrea will be strong contenders in the mountains too but we are not sure if their team is well equipped for the TTT. On the contrary there is Alarcon who comes with a really strong squad for the Time Trial and still has some skills when it comes to climbing, though the age is showing and he clearly lacks the explosiveness of his younger contenders.
Then we have a whole bun ch of riders with similar skills when it goes into the climbs. Mannion, Iturria, O'Connor, Aru, Roglic and Schelling. Iturria and O'connor also bring a really strong Team for the TTT. On the other hand Aru has support in the mountains from Ciccone and co but almost non in the TTT, so he can just hope this wont be a huge setback.
Verschaeve and Paret-Peintre may be a little bit behind when it comes to the steeper climbs but they are they are overall great riders and may can score better than many expect.

Thanks Ezeefreak for the preview!
Some climbers will definitely get a headstart on Chiarello. It will be interesting to see how he will manage that in the mountains.
Good luck everybody!

At least this race has some actual hard climbs (and multiple) so it's not just a TTT procession. Sounds like the field is quite even as well between the teams of the top climbers. Looking forward to it Ezee, thanks for the preview!

Thanks for the preview, Ezee!
APP is finally back after 4 months of resting and training, but with the usual TTT handicap our best chance could be going for the breaks with Chevrier. Stage 3 could also be a good chance for APP if a group of favourites sprints it out. But even a Top 10 in the GC could be possible with the AIs tendency to drop the weaker riders in TTTs regardless if they're the team captain or not - something that won't happen to him for sure as our best time trialist.

Echoing that, don't even bother thinking of Alarcon as a leader. He'll be dropped on every stage. Hoping some GC priority after a good stage one supports Siriwardena and Reguigui to medium GC placings like in Tour de Vineyards.
Good luck to the stronger climbers in your GC battle!

Top10GC would be great here for O'Connor. We've got an ok-ish TTT line-up, but missing some of our core unit. Points here are a good way to keep us ticking over in the promotion chase.

With both Manfredi and Kritskiy here we are also aiming for a top-10 in GC.

I also like that the race doesn't seem to necessarily be determined by the TTT (or an ITT for that matter)

With the usual full-strength TTT lineup, I guess O'Connor might have had some good chances for a GC podium, if not for the win, but with P-A's main TT powerhouse not here, I could see a wide open race.
Normally it should come down to Chiarello vs. Berhane once more, with both teams pretty much on par in the TTT; however, other teams could easily be 30" or so faster, and then they'd need a gap on S2. And they have to control the usual breakaway on S3, which is less easy than it sounds with their relative lack of mountain support...
Looking forward to the race, which can take so many different turns and twists - although I'll admit that the most likely winner will be one of the Big 2

Decent TTT, though not good either. Now it's up to Itturia to not lose it all tomorrow, and I've seen him struggle on such hard climbs (and do better, eg in ToME). Not much support for him, so we'll see what we can have.
Thanks for the preview and the report!

Thats for the report Abhi!
The position seems right and the time we lost too. So this was a good start and now we hope that Schelling can fight for a good position and the white jersey.

The Turtles win the stage, Alarcon is dead last
Congrats to a really dominant win, that's a gap even I could only dream of last year (and didn't even win this stage)! Given how tough the stage 2 final climb is, it probably won't amount to a lot GC-wise unfortunately, but the stage win and GC leader points are nice as well
Chiarello obviously in a fantastic position now, gaining 30" on Berhane couldn't be expected and is pretty massive. Still looking forward to a great duel

Wow, 6th in team ranking was much better than expected, now maybe Garby have a GC-chance after all?
Fun to watch SEE Turtles win everything, big congrats!
Thanks Ezee and Abhi for the preview and reports! |

Overall an ok TTT, but losing 30 seconds on Chiarello will hurt is in the race for the GC win.
This again sucks, as winning the Giro del Trentino is a goal of us, damn!

Quite funny to see the Turtles win it (congrats, very nice to see!) and then Alarcon is wayyy behind in last place The GC should be between Chiarello and Berhane now. It would be a surprise if O'Connor or Iturria manage to stay with them, though not impossible I guess, we've seen mountain stages with big groups finishing together before. Garby in decent shape, too. Interesting outlook for the next stages.

I'm used to having to search for Alarcon throughout the results, but never had him fall all the way to last. Can't say I'm upset about it though! Maybe now we can go for KOM as opposed to getting crushed in the final climbs.
Still, we did what we wanted to do here and anything extra is icing on the cake. Nice to see our Americans wear the jerseys tomorrow - but good luck to those actually trying to hold them at the end.
Thank you always for the reports, was lovely news to wake up to!

Happy with that from our reduced TTT unit, puts O'Connor into a good position to think about a GC podium. And i'll never mind being behind the Turtles, we beat them in the TTT that really mattered in Mexico

Congrats sean to another great win, maybe this TTT stuff is really worth thinking about
For us 10th in a field of 19 is about as good as we possibly could hope for and APP could well be in the position to contest for a GC top 10. Plus Chevrier losing more than 4 minutes puts him in a perfect position for tomorrows break and a shot at the KoM, though I expect him to be joined by Alarcon there who did even worse (or better) in this respect.
Finally thanks to Abhi for your reports!
