Lisbon Classic
The race is reported by kandesbunzler26
Welcome to the 11th edition of the Lisbon Classic. Over the years it has become one of the most recognizable sprint classics in MG and while it's an important race for most PCT teams it does clash with a similar PTHC race in Veenendaal. Therefore the list of sprinters is not completely stacked. At the same time the profile has proved difficult enough for late attackers to win the race. The parcour starts and ends in Lisbon. 205 km with a lot of not necessarily difficult hills but they add up, with the last one about 10 km from the finish line.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| Sprinter | FL | RS | SP | AC | Lead out | FL | RS | SP | AC | Dainese | 76 | 76 | 81 | 82 | Gibbons | 75 | 72 | 78 | 78 | Demare | 73 | 72 | 82 | 81 | Kump | 70 | 67 | 77 | 74 | Groenewegen | 73 | 71 | 82 | 81 | Vingerling | 70 | 65 | 78 | 78 | Halvorsen | 76 | 71 | 81 | 80 | Räim | 74 | 72 | 76 | 75 | Vesely | 73 | 68 | 81 | 80 | Kuroeda | 72 | 77 | 76 | 73 | Aniolkowski | 76 | 74 | 80 | 79 | No lead out | Afewerki | 73 | 70 | 79 | 80 | Aquilani | 72 | 70 | 72 | 72 | Einhorn | 74 | 71 | 80 | 78 | Eislers | 74 | 68 | 76 | 75 | Bol | 76 | 77 | 79 | 77 | Stocker | 75 | 73 | 76 | 77 | Nur Hasan | 74 | 74 | 79 | 78 | Kochetkov | 72 | 69 | 71 | 78 | Hayakawa | 73 | 68 | 79 | 79 | Kulikovskiy | 72 | 73 | 76 | 77 | Van Asbroeck | 74 | 71 | 79 | 77 | Bohli | 74 | 75 | 74 | 68 | Degenkolb | 73 | 66 | 81 | 76 | Lienhard | 73 | 72 | 73 | 76 | Bertilsson | 73 | 71 | 79 | 77 | Eislers | 76 | 73 | 79 | 73 | Stallaert | 77 | 68 | 79 | 76 | Young | 71 | 72 | 72 | 72 | Howard | 74 | 67 | 80 | 76 | Kopfauf | 69 | 74 | 74 | 73 |
Dainese, Demare and Groenewegen, three of the strongest PCT sprinters are here, all with lead out men. Don't be surprised if we see their teams at front trying to control the race for a sprint finish. Halvorsen and Vesely are the next fastest, the former is a bit stronger overall to handle a hectic finish. Aniolkowski is likely too far down the list to need a lead out. Afewerki is at this point a pretty known overperformer with good energy stats next to his acceleration. The other rider who has been turning heads this season is Bol.
| FL | MO | HI | ST | RS | AC | FT | Katrasnik | 81 | 61 | 63 | 72 | 76 | 72 | 81 | Dzamastagic | 78 | 66 | 70 | 76 | 72 | 78 | 78 | Pidcock | 76 | 74 | 75 | 74 | 77 | 80 | 72 | Ruiz | 79 | 68 | 68 | 73 | 71 | 75 | 67 | Rickaert | 78 | 62 | 69 | 75 | 75 | 73 | 67 | Varga | 77 | 61 | 66 | 76 | 73 | 80 | 83 | Debesay | 75 | 67 | 74 | 75 | 79 | 78 | 73 | Houle | 77 | 65 | 74 | 75 | 70 | 77 | 69 | Novardianto | 76 | 61 | 68 | 70 | 78 | 79 | 74 | Yzeiraj | 77 | 62 | 66 | 74 | 74 | 71 | 85 | Rowe | 77 | 54 | 65 | 74 | 68 | 78 | 74 | Havik | 77 | 63 | 70 | 74 | 73 | 69 | 75 | Jacobs | 76 | 60 | 69 | 77 | 76 | 67 | 71 | Tesfaye Heyi | 75 | 70 | 73 | 74 | 76 | 73 | 78 |
The list of possible late attackers is quite extensive and with good reason as this race has often been won in such a way. Katrasnik is the strongest pure flat rider with solid resistance and acceleration. Dzamastagic is one of the fastest with some history for late winning moves. Xero have brought a number of possible attackers, Pidcock being one who can make a big attack on one of the final uphills. Los Pollos usually turn up with their sprinter Manninen, but they have a strong flat rider in Ruiz here instead. Rickaert will be more likely working for his sprinter and bringing back the attacks from last year's winner Varga and the others.

It’s our turn to try the ‘79 sprinter with good backups’ strategy, let’s see how it goes

Not sure if it was a good idea to send Bol here instead of Veenendaal, was hoping the startlist to be a tad weaker tbh. But well, he's been mixing up the Giro sprints so far against some similarly strong sprinters, and also has a Top 10 in GORC in Juarez - why not here? Top 10 should be a realistic hope, but it's very well possible he'll finish far off - anything is possible, from the win to zero points.
Démare should be the favourite given the tough parcours, if Tryg make the race hard enough. Looking forward to the big battle up front!
Thanks for the preview

Deep sprinter field but we're here with Dzama and Rowe to see if we can get something from this race, but I do fear a 0 pointer!
Thanks for a great preview I personally think that Dainese got this one in the bag!

Apparently I thought this was a hilly race with Boswell, Bagioli and Narvaez here. Seems like a bad choice but I guess we will see.

Guess I will be happy if we get a Top 15 with Vesely and maybe some more minor points, because that's how it's been going for us in these kinds of races so far.
Thanks for the preview

As Croatia said just an absolutely sick list of rouleurs to the point it will be a crying shame if they don't make a good go of stealing the win here - obviously our four that got mentioned but also our team heroes Rowe and Debesay (who came 2nd here once or am I misremembering?) as well as one of my top 5 non-Xero riders in Dzamastagic.
Pais Vasco went pretty good combining Houle and Pidcock, that was the stage race I tried it and this is the classic they are together for. Really hope one of them, or failing that Jams or Tesfaye can produce a moment of magic here.

Thank you for the nice preview, red!
Manninen was unavailable indeed, so we brought Ruiz here in the hopes of a late attack sticking. In theory he should be among the better/more versatile rouleurs, so hopefully he is able to follow the best of them when there is an actual succesful attack like there has been in the past. Good luck to everyone!

Hope Dainese can continue his nice form from Baltic Chain Tour and fight for the win He’s had good results in the classics this season so nice if it could continue here.
Thanks for the preview!

Another good result for Degenkolb, #7 and best CT rider. I really like what he is doing for us this year!

Nice to see the Top 4 in the race match 4 of the Top 5 in the preview. Then a bit of chaos with us as a big beneficiary, 6th is a phenomenal result for Stallaert. Might be the best he's ever done for us as a pure sprinter in relation to the field he competed against. Congrats Sykkel, Dainese is such a great rider! And I'm glad to see that Demare recovered well enough from being distanced at one point. Lastly, thanks for the nice report as always, kb!

Ouch, pretty bad day for Bol, losing the Ciclamino on the last Giro stage, and then being once again awfully placed for a bunch sprint in Lisbon. Guess I can't complain too much given some of his earlier results, but that wasn't a good race by him.
Onto the next one then.
Congrats to Assa, thanks for the report to kb!

Thanks for a great report, 10th and 18th is probably as much as we could ask for.

That's as good a result as we could've hoped for realistically. Good outcome for Vesely. Would've hoped for some depth points but can't complain too much.
Congrats to Sykkel and thanks for the report

Another weird race in what's been a weird season.

Wow! That went pretty much as well as it could have Brilliant sprint from Dainese. He’s abilities are perfect for a hard race like this and he clearly had a lot of power left for the sprint! Great team effort as well, nice to see our entire team sprinting from the front with 1,2k to go
Thanks for the congrats and thanks a lot for the report kb!

Funny race, lots of things going on. Nur Hasan managing a decent top-10 is all we could have asked for! Stoked for him to be getting results for himself like this. Congrats sykkel, Dainese’s wage might somehow manage to increase after this season with how he’s doing.
Thanks for the report kb!

Bertilsson did about what was expected by him, not much to bring home from this race either, unfortunately.
Congrats to SykkelFreak and Assa Abloy!
