Reports will start on Saturday. But why not have this discussion a day early for some more talking.
Flat, hill, TT combination. On paper a lot of riders can do well here from pure TT riders to puncheurs with decent TT skills to the perfect combination by being more than average in both.
The winner list reads quite boring to be honest. Three years in a row Taylor Phinney won the race for Isostar. The last two podiums actually had the same riders with Tenorio and Wirtgen behind Phinney, just in different order. And basically all 3 are here again and while Isostar is no more, Phinney might still show up here to win it (again).
The top top TT riders in this race are also more than decent on the hills. This obviously in especially goes for the reigning triple champion Phinney, who has lost a bit recently but MOL definitely have the man to beat here. It won`t be easy though as double podium rider Wirtgen surely wants to improve further on and after 3rd and 2nd, his aim this year must be clear and his offseason training might work out. Würtz as top TT rider here but then weaker on the hills must hope for a rather easy hill stage, just like Mullen or Ganna while Mano is the youngest of them all and already a rider capable to win this here.
| Hi | TT | | Hi | TT | Würtz | 71 | 83 | Kämna | 71 | 78 | Wirtgen | 75 | 82 | Geoghegan Hart | 74 | 78 | Phinney | 76 | 82 | Hayter | 70 | 78 | Mullen | 70 | 81 | Pelikan | 70 | 78 | Mano | 75 | 80 | Ioannidis | 73 | 78 | Ganna | 73 | 80 | Ferreyra | 72 | 78 | Oliveira | 72 | 79 | Conci | 74 | 78 | Cataford | 70 | 79 | Cosnefroy | 71 | 78 | Tenorio | 74 | 78 | | | |
A couple of the pure TT riders aren`t much weaker than e.g. Würtz or Mullen but have less strength in the hills. The first couple might go for the stage win on the final day despite not being top favourites while Durbridge, Howson or Hepburn have the home bonus as well.
| Hi | TT | | Hi | TT | Durbridge | 67 | 81 | Christodoulos | 68 | 78 | Lammertink | 69 | 80 | Sterobo | 63 | 78 | Howson | 65 | 80 | Hofer | 65 | 78 | Viennet | 67 | 80 | Campenaerts | 69 | 78 | Yatsevich | 68 | 80 | Kukrle | 66 | 78 | Hepburn | 66 | 79 | Atkins | 68 | 78 | Tanfield | 63 | 79 | Krul | 66 | 78 | Bjerg | 68 | 79 | Erdenebat | 65 | 78 | Dal Col | 64 | 79 | Vorobev | 64 | 78 | Goldstein | 61 | 79 | Thomas | 66 | 78 | Nareklishvili | 69 | 78 | | | |
With just 3 race days most if not all top puncheurs of the division decided to go here. It might be hard for them to really shine GC wise when checking the last few years but they will have one stage for themselves and in case of time gaps, some might be able to remain in a decent GC position.
De Bie, Lopez, Gidich and home rider Bobridge kind of stand out due to their decent TT skills as well. The others might still be in for the 2nd stage though.
| Hi | TT | | Hi | TT | De Bie | 84 | 72 | Vakoc | 81 | 69 | Lopez | 84 | 71 | Yates | 81 | 68 | Gidich | 83 | 73 | Kwiatkowski | 80 | 69 | Kinoshita | 83 | 66 | Valter | 80 | 66 | Mohoric | 83 | 64 | Stannard | 79 | 67 | Skujins | 83 | 59 | Trakhov | 79 | 65 | Sagan | 82 | 67 | Storer | 78 | 69 | McCarthy | 82 | 58 | Geniets | 78 | 68 | Bobridge | 81 | 75 | Sepulveda | 77 | 75 |
Last but not least, the first stage offers a flat opener for the sprinters and again, with just 3 race days, many top riders take the chance to ride here.
Coquard, Ewan and newly improved Kanter form a strong trio here while also Van Poppel, Kennaugh or Carsi are not far off.
| Fl | Sp | Acc | | Fl | Sp | Acc | Coquard | 73 | 84 | 83 | Perera | 71 | 79 | 80 | Ewan | 75 | 83 | 81 | Peak | 80 | 78 | 78 | Kanter | 75 | 81 | 80 | Prasad | 74 | 78 | 79 | Van Poppel | 72 | 81 | 78 | Scott | 72 | 78 | 78 | Kennaugh | 75 | 80 | 78 | Yates | 74 | 77 | 80 | Carsi | 70 | 80 | 82 | Hofstetter | 74 | 77 | 78 | Kalaba | 74 | 79 | 79 | Bouglas | 71 | 77 | 76 | Ovsyannikov | 74 | 79 | 78 | Garcia Cortina | 76 | 77 | 76 | Banaszek | 74 | 79 | 81 | Gross | 72 | 77 | 77 |

Here we go again, let the madness begin.
It would be great if Tenorio was able to repeat the last results achieved here. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to do better than a place in the top10 this year.

If we can't score well here then we might as well quit before we start.
Thanks for the preview.

Thanks for the preview and for kicking off the season!
Back in Tasmania then, where he had some nice results in the past. This year though it's just about stage hunting for us and we at least have a possible threat for each of those three stages. Would be great, of course, if we have some good legs on home turf!

Let's get the hype going!
Really looking forward to see the season start, this will be very exciting. Always cool to see how "new" PT riders perform, riders in new teams, or just the "same old" setups.
We're hoping for a good stage placing by Mohoric on the hilly stage. Regarding the GC, we have no card to play, meaning it's all or nothing for stage points on the hilly stage. The stage win looks really difficult, though, but hopefully he can be in the mix and fight for it. Hoping for a selective hilly stage, but think it will be more of a selective group, seeing how similar stage races played out last season. |

I'll have to get used to looking for a black minijersey in the previews from now on.
Mano was 4th here last year and is improved now, so hopefully he can at least repeat that. Gidich is here as the second leader. In case of a selective hilly stage he could also become an option.
Clear favorites are Phinney and Wirtgen in my opinion.
Good luck everyone! |

Galta had leftover race days,s o he's probably the weirdest one here. I don't think Kamna is nearly as much of a favorite as the preview suggests, but we can only hope he lives up to it.
Can't believe I'm here, in a PT race, competiting for points with the best teams in MG history. What a feeling.
Thanks for the preview!

A reasonably selective 2nd stage would help ISA - Hexacta's GC ambitions, so we are set up to try and force that outcome. Means that Caleb has his only race days without a dedicated sprint train; will be interesting to see what occurs day 1. We are not among the favourites for this race, but hoping for solid depth scoring through both stage results and overall (as is generally our way!).
We should also bid welcome to the promoted PCT cohort, both returnees and especially the newbies - enjoy .

It's here!!!!
Our first race as a PT team and I can't wait to see how we go! With Conci and Cosnefroy, we have 2 decent scoring options for the GC and then with Ovysa we have a rider who should be in the mix in the sprints.
Thank you for the preview and for getting the season underway
Good luck to all for the season ahead

It's exciting times whenever a new season is about to start! I think one of Würtz, Wirtgen and Phinney is a fairly safe bet, but who knows. Got my fingers crossed for the new teams, best of luck!

Let's go!
Kinoshita will probably not be a GC factor with the time trial. Dennis is perhaps our bet there.

Going here with Lopez was a tough decision and i only added this race late after i decided against another option when i realized that it wouldnt have the upside i was hoping for.
Foss as second leader option, basically an insurance against a passive stage 2. Ideally, we get a big selective stage 2 and have Lopez in the GC fight but Foss could do well if there wont be too many gaps on that stage. So between those two, i have two very solid options.
A good result would be important since the next couple of races are supposed to be pretty bad for us.
This is also a good point to thank all the helpers behind the scenes for all the work done to organize the season. Thank you!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

An opportunity for an early impression on how Yates will perform for us this season, Unless the hill stage is massively selective, which historically it hasnt really been then he won't be our option for the overall - which likely only sits on Oliveira's shoulders. Overall, I'm not too hopeful of good scoring here, but I never expected/planned for that to happen.

It's always fun to follow the PT races, but this time around with a bit more involvement from my part since I am keeping my fingers crossed fro Jason Huertas and Henry Antonio Rojas. I hope for some action from their part and maybe Rojas can show his awesome Nicaraguan champion jersey Carslberg has for him in some breakaways.
Good luck to all!

Good to see Perera up there but faded in the end as expected. Good first race day of the year for us!
Congrats to Ewan on a good win!

I'm just glad to see the colours of the peloton. Hoping for a good showing of Stannard, perhaps he can take a dig at the U25 competition.
Great start to the season with that report, roturn, thanks!
Congrats on the first win of the season, Scorchio. Must feel good!

Nice win for local hero Ewan!
Kennaugh in the mix at least.. surprised to see McCarthy going for the early break. Not sure if he would be allowed to repeat this move next stage, but I like the idea of it
