A lot different to 2019 the interest in PT wildcards was incredibly high and could have needed basically 50 % more PT wildcards available to really making all happy.
All races are filled completely now with 22 PT teams plus 2 PCT teams!
In the end in especially the GT wildcards really had to be denied for some teams as 9 managers were interested to get one. In comparison 2019 saw an empty spot for the Tour de France!
Having been in the PT quite recently or in the past could have led to not getting entry to the GTs in 2020.
The GTs as said go to 6 teams, which either never had been there before or had a break of 1 or 2 full years without a GT and in 2 cases being teams that were in one of the Grand Tours in 2019 via wildcards only! The teams missing out in the end were either PT teams in 2019 or 2018 with wildcards in 2019, so had quite a good GT run lately.
| Giro d'Italia | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Polar | | Vuelta a Espana | Duolingo | Desigual | | Tour de France | Azteca - NBCSN | Swisslion Cycling Team |
The monuments as well had too much interest to give all teams the same number of wildcards. Basically 8 teams for 10 wildcards resulting in two lucky teams getting a double wildcard. Both are teams that only promoted to the PCT and have no GT in 2020.
| Milano San Remo | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Podium Ambition | | Ronde van Vlaanderen | Andorra Cycling Team | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | Paris - Roubaix | Adastra N Hell Energy Cycling | Andorra Cycling Team | | Liege- Bastogne - Liege | GCN Racing | Swisslion Cycling Team | | Giro di Lombardia | Adastra N Hell Energy Cycling | Mapei |
The PT stage races have 18 spots available with 10 teams going for it. This means, all are getting 2 wildcards but two teams with only a single wildcard in this category. Those two though were lucky to get a GT instead despite already having had a wildcard in 2019.
| Tour de Suisse | Farfetch Pro Cycling | Swisslion Cycling Team | | Criterium du Dauphine Libere | Azteca - NBCSN | Berg Cycles | | Paris-Nice | Duolingo | Swisslion Cycling Team | | Tour of Northern Europe | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Xero Racing | | Tirreno-Adriatico | Azteca - NBCSN | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | Tour of Qatar | Berg Cycles | Farfetch Pro Cycling | | Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha | Duolingo | Polar | | Ronde van Nederland | Desigual | Xero Racing | | Tour of Tasmania | Polar | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff |
The PT classics were "easiest" to give away. 22 spots for 11 interested teams! 2 for all of them.
The unwanted Copenhagen - Malmo was the most difficult to decide as no team really wanted it. In the end it was decided that teams that got the highest number of wildcards in total have to enter this one.
| Amstel Gold Race | Adastra N Hell Energy Cycling | Swisslion Cycling Team | | Badaling International | Mapei | Nordstrom - CA Technologies | | Chrono des Herbiers | Farfetch Pro Cycling | GCN Racing | | Classique du Grand-Duché | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | Mapei | | Copenhagen-Malmo TTT | Swisslion Cycling Team | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | East Midlands Cicle Classic | Andorra Cycling Team | Podium Ambition | | Fleche Wallone | GCN Racing | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo PCTeam | | GP Liechtenstein | Berg Cycles | Team Popo4Ever p/b Nemiroff | | GP Moscow | Berg Cycles | Podium Ambition | | Rund um Koln | Adastra N Hell Energy Cycling | Nordstrom - CA Technologies | | Strada Appia Antica | Andorra Cycling Team | Farfetch Pro Cycling |
Some clear highlights on a very fast check might be:
- Pluchkin`s Vuelta run?
- Summerhill going for the Ronde/Roubaix double?
- Gaviria and Ewan for Milan San Remo?
- Buchmann for Lombardia?
- Kemboi`s attempt to hurt the PT sprinters in Qatar?
- Swift for Qatar again?
- Beltran in the Ardennes?

Very happy with that! Top 2 picks with Liege and Fleche for Schreurs. Shame to miss out with Amstel, but Sergent will be heading to France for the Chrono

Good to see a big interest in wildcards. For the first time I haven't applied, but in the past they have both been fun and crucial to my talent development.

For some reason it's always the GT I target that have the most difficult wildcard capacity...
Pluchkin/Gesink vs. Eastman/Beltran vs. Latour/Oomen...
It's too bad really that those aren't shared a bit better or atleast presented prior to the need for "or" goals to be decided... This season I'm pretty confident that Lecuisinier can beat all of those, but the competition surely is bigger in the Vuelta-category.
I guess a very limited amount of teams wanted a GT, because isn't Pluchkin always in a GT? Not that I dislike that, but I just remember him always landing a GT

Greedy Justo Tenorio isn't too happy about being denied a Grand Tour appearance this season, especially after seeing Pluchkin's team going to the Vuelta. Shame so many people wanted wildcards this season.
I guess we will have to make due with seeing how Simon Yates does at Tirreno-Adriatico and Ronde van Nederland.

Seems like we got our top 2 priorities, should be some good fun to send Kump to these before he retires!

Teams and their priority requests are the only considerations really - the riders each team has doesn't come into it.
GTs were oversubscribed - but naturally Popo4Ever, as a PCT team last year, have a higher priority for getting one of the 6 slots, over the teams applying who were in PT last year.

MSR - Ewan was 6th last year
Moscow - Ewan was 4th last year
Will be fun to head back to those with an 83-81-80-79-77-76 sprint train
Had hoped for low GT interest again to sneak Ewan in for a Green Jersey challenge, something he'll never get when it costs RD.
Midlands - Altur was 8th last year
We've improved his support could be fun as well, although not the best race for him we have to do what we can as a just-relegate wildcard hunter

Congrats to everyone who gets to have a taste of PT!
For some it'll be a consolation prize, for others the biggest opportunity to impress in their team's existence so far.
Continue to work hard, and we'll be happy to welcome you to the entire calendar soon!
For us, this is good news, mostly avoiding big hitters in Herklotz races, although Demare will get some additional opposition in his focus races.
Nothing we couldn't overcome last season though.

Ronde van Vlaanderen - Pluchkin to win!
Tasmania - Was fun last year, should be again
Liechtenstein - I like climbing
Vuelta - Massive headache

A small update.
Home team Desigual around Tenorio replacing Popo4ever`s Pluchkin squad in the Vuelta.
Instead they go the other way in Tirreno - Adriatico. |

Maybe shuffle things a bit in the future then. It seems a bit pointless to have picked a goal only to lose it to wildcard riders you didn’t know/expect to be there. Especially RD’s to me is a bit of an issue, which I have raised before too. Pluchkin will race an equal amount of RD in PT and PCT and thus having all the better chance to make history. In reality it is likely that he would end up in the region of 10th if he could get PT points, which is then points taken away from other similar riders who might need them.
This also counts for other riders obviously but Pluchkin is just easy to pick due to RD’s and that this is the second consequtive season.
I really think this setup of free RD to super riders need to be rethought. Everywhere else the riders can score points and will spend RD. Why not try to create a “fair” setup around this for the PT “free spots” instead? It could be used tactically too...

Some Evonik unfriendly wildcards there. Especially Summerhill being everywhere will cost us points

Que bién! Super! Báječné!
Landing a GT is stupendous news for us. Congrats to everyone else.
@SotD: how about just bringing Pluchkin back to the PT, instead of letting us poor PCT managers to deal with all his non-wildcard calendar choices? Win-win situation!

Wass hoping for some Bennett and Areruya fun behind ToNE but really I think we got our two wildcards with the most likelihood of proper GC success with Debesay in ToNE and Houle in Nederland, and with no race clashes hopefully I can send the best possible teams to really compete there. Congrats to everyone who got what they wanted Bring on the PCT race planners!
Spoiler Will no doubt try my best to give Areruya a GT or at least some mountain stage races when he maxes next year to chase some top level white jerseys

Very nice setup for Azteca here, Eastman will get shots in both the Dauphine and TdF, and Chaves will get his shot at the top level in T-A.
This is huge as well for Uri Martins Sandoval, one of our few home country Mexican riders to finish his development at the ripe age of 30 and we hope he gets some chances in the breakaway to display his very solid all-round skills. Likewise our young promising sprinter German Nicolas Tivani will get some chances to impress and improve as well.
