A new ranking update including the biggest race of the year yet with the Giro d'Italia as also the monument Paris Roubaix alongside PT classics Amstel Gold Race and GP Liechtenstein with the Tour of Pologne completing it for the PTHC stage races.
Giro d'Italia
Being such a big event, just fair to get this listed individually.
To make it short, it was a fight between Puma and Isostar for the win and also for the gained points. While the GC went to Isostar`s Spilak, the bigger points were collected by Puma and Herklotz. Both as a team as also individually.
Winning couple of stages clearly was more worth than the GC in the end.
Generali the only other team with more than 1000 points of which Gesink had ~3/4 by himself supported by Teuns mainly.
Decent races for several other teams while the teams at the botton didn`t get a lot from it despite a stage win even for the last team Podium Ambitions.
More of a disappointing event for the next Fablok, Air France, who clearly had higher expectations.

The GC riders as usual dominate the rankings with some surprises in between maybe. Goos as KoM and stage winner, Haig with couple of solid TT results as also Konig, Kruijswijk with their stage performances are higher than expected.
Therefore Alarcon in 11th only lower just like probably Swift or Henao.
Best sprinter Kemboi, which was a huge surprise.

Rest of the month April
Festina with a good month here with the GC win in Pologne but also decent points scored in Liechtenstein and adding mediocre in Roubaix and Amstel Gold.
Air France as best of the others having a decent Pologne but in especially a strong Amstel Gold performance. Twice runner-up in the end for Eddy.
SPAR, Fablok with much needed points surely just like Repsol in 6th.
Puma surprisingly low in the races clashing with the Giro, where their main lineup was sent to. Similar for other strong Giro teams such as Generali, EA Vesuvio or Isostar actually.

April Ranking
It`s incredibly close still with Puma having a bit of a gap but also having spent the most race days so far. Generali not far behind them and in the projected standings actually almost up to them while Isostar actually tops those at the moment.
And while the projections seem to show a fight of those three, you must not forget Moser as they are also over 8000 points there.
Quiet a gap then to Air France and Gazelle next but same here. Still in the fight for the win.
Aegon down to 7th and here clearly a bigger gap as they also used the most race days and have a clear PpRD deficit.
At the bottom Farfetch being last but really had a better than expected Giro to maybe mix it up from now on. Repsol, Fablok, Tinkoff and Podium Ambition following but the gap is really small here as well up to 12th really.
eBuddy, Bennelong, Festina and Grieg for now the teams in the middle of nowhere.
Herklotz has gained more points in the Giro alone as the 3rd in the individual standings in total!
Only Spilak is coming close but for now the crown seems to be rather safe on the Germans head. Great start into the year with huge performances in Tirreno and Giro.
Spilak as said in 2nd with Gesink having a great year as well for now.
Bewley and Boasson Hagen the only other over 1000 points while Wisniowski in 6th really is a surprise beating Swift as best sprinter, who to be honest, could have been higher by now as well normally.
Grosu as next best sprinter followed by Ewan, Groenewegen, Howard as well in the top15.
Ponzi the 2nd best pure puncheur with Sagan as well not far behind.
Mainly due to Groenewegen carrying it better than I had thought.
Meanwhile though De Bie could have done better and also Olivier was okay but not that good yet.
Keinath adding to those though, must be said that I was hoping it as he wasn`t too cheap.
Will be interesting to see how Velits can perform later and how the following races for De Bie work out. Surely another drop is likely to happen but as long as the team is around the 10th, I don`t mind. Was more afraid of relegation before the season than having a mid level performance.
The Giro was obviously excellent for us and it feels pretty good to still be as high as 2nd about halfway through the season. Unfortunately, the way AGR and the few other hilly classics have gone doesn't really leave me hoping that Ulissi will turn his season around in a meaningful way (108 points far exceeds my lamest expectations), and in addition to that, the most lucrative part of the season is over for both Gesink and Theuns.
On the upside, my time trialists and all-rounders still have quite a few chances to score crucial points. Realistically, this should mean that we can keep a spot in the top 10, which is about in line with my goals for the season.
Love to see such a tight fight for the crown and the relegation spots, but it's a hell of a long way to go still. Thanks for the updates and the write-up roturn!
I will continue to be endlessly surprised and happy to not be in last place! The fact we've got through the Giro and are still in touch for a genuine relegation fight is crazy! Ok after the Vuelta and TDF we will be gone (because believe it or not, i've got worse squads lined up there than for the Giro) but the longer we go still in with a chance is just more of a success story for a low-level PCT capable squad
Must say I'm very, very "nervous" for how this season is going to end regarding the potential relegation. Swift not scoring the expected points is quite an understatement in the rankings post. He is now left with three one day races, meaning he's done with 36 of 42 race days. Seeing how the sprints are going, he could even struggle to reach 1000 points
Which makes surviving come down to Taaramae and some lucky breakaway and lucky AI racing for us to survive in the PT. Considering the latter, it feels difficult to have luck on the right side seeing how few breakaway attempts we've made so far this season. Hopefully that will improve now that the races with Swift/Taaramae present are few.
And Taaramae, we need you to step up. Big times!
And wow, seeing how close it is from 12th and downwards, it should be a very entertaining season considering the rankings for all teams involved. At the top half, Puma still looks good for the crown. Guess Moser must be their rival if their GC riders can deliver in the remaining GTs.
Wisniowski up in 6th place is great to see! His performance in Roubaix also the one thing that makes this update a fairly decent one for us. The giro was always going to be a low scoring race, but happy with out performance there.
Still very cool to see Generali in 2nd place. What a start for them! Puma looks great on the top again, but a long way to go still.
So far so good, Spilak still carrying. I ranted a lot about how Mohoric's ovl is far higher than similar riders, and the standings agree his downhill is far overrated
Katrasnik is thw big plus of the season so far, but especially Kump, Mohoric, Keizer and Per need to step up. Polanc already started which is nice anything still possible, from the podium (which was the minimum goal before the season) to sth around midtable. Spilaks season and Mohoric's best races are almost gone though, so I guess we have to look down the table.
There I was thinking we'd had a good month with a successful Giro, and solid if unspectacular results in AGR and Liechtenstein. And then I look and see we're actually further from safety than we were at the last update
Honestly I can't see how we survive now - even if Cattaneo has a good Vuelta and Monsalve a good Tour alongside strong results in the remaining stage races, it seems that we won't generate enough points to get out of trouble. Pretty disappointing to be headed for a third relegation in the last five seasons, but at least I'm used to it by now...
5th in the Giro ranking and 5th in the April ranking; again a very solid month for Gazelle. We dropped a bit in the overall ranking, but that's mostly due to teams scoring big with their main GT rider in the Giro. Madrazo still has his GT ticket and a lot will depend on it.
This is also the month in which my last hopes of Ginanni bouncing back in a race like AGR got crushed. He is currently getting outscored by domestiques such as Konrad, Furdi and De Gendt. This is the last time I'll talk about this; from now on he'll be treated like a domestique himself.
Still have hope that Kangert will find his form though.
Very much looking forward to the coming months. Thanks for the update roturn!
When can we expect the next rankingsupdate? It has been quite a while... For me it's OK that it isn't written that in-depth, but having them occassionally is important to keep track of the status.
Next race in the PT is the Tour de France I think, which means that it is 10 PT races since the last update, which includes a GT and counts more than 50 racedays.
