Vuelta al Tachira - Stage 5
Aquarius97
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-000.jpg

Final flat stage of the race, and all the sprinters will be looking to win it, though a couple of climbs in the first part of the race could favor a strong breakaway or make the weakest climbers to get dropped

Three riders attack from the start, two of them quite surprising

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/cen.png Mäder
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/epc.png Quicibal
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/azt.png Bravo

Yes, both KoM and U25 leader, both in the GC Top5 are going into the breakaway, maybe looking for those bonus seconds trying to become the new race leaders?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-001.jpg

Very surprising that Quicibal could drop Bravo for the first KoM points of the day

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-002.jpg

Bravo takes revenge at the first intermediate sprint, winning it ahead of Quicibal. That puts Quicibal tied with Van Emden for the race lead, and Bravo third at 4 seconds

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-003.jpg

This time it was a very close decision, but it's again Quicibal taking away points from Bravo in the KoM standings

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-004.jpg

Same result as in the first intermediate sprint, so this means that if both riders can finish the stage in the bunch, Quicibal is the new provisional race leader, 2 seconds ahead of Bravo and 4 of Van Emden

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-005.jpg

Breakaway gets caught with still 20 kms to go. This won't be liked much by Quicibal and Bravo, who will likely struggle to keep themselves there for the rest of the stage

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-006.jpg

And here they are... Quicibal's and Bravo's GC dreams ends up with both being dropped from the bunch in the uphill zone before the final kms

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-007.jpg

Less than 3 kms to go, and GCN is going for it quite early, specially considering it's Welten the lead-out rider. Naser and Cisse are following Mohs, while Zalgiris is building their train for Awang in the right side of the road. Still looking to follow a train, in the centre we can see Keough, Angarita, Altanzul, and far behind Korzh

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-008.jpg

What is Mohs doing???? He seems to be trying to stick in Zalgiris train, but he's just wasting a lot of energies being side by side with Dzervus!

Bogdanovics and Weiss seem to have picked Awang's wheel, while every other sprinter is following Mohs' stupidity, with Jaser, Cisse, Keough and Mansilla being spotable in the image

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-009.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/fox.png Phonarjthan decides that today he's the main sprinter of his team and goes for it from long distance. This could lead to a messy sprinter if Zalgiris mis-time their train now

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-010.jpg

Wow, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Micros/zal.png Awang can't even sprint, despite having used Dzervus as a great leadout. Awful strat by the team

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-011.jpg

Mohs launches his sprint under the Flamme Rouge, and opens quite a gap over the rest!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-012.jpg

And as fast as he opened, he cracks and won't be on the fight for the win today. Really bad choice for such an experienced sprinter...

Cisse and Jaser are going to take the lead with 500 metres to go, but Keough is very close and aiming for a second stage win

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-013.jpg

Jaser can't keep up for longer and the win is between Cisse and Keough. The Azteca rider is coming with higher speed...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-014.jpg

Luke Keough wins again and gives Azteca their third consecutive win in the race!

Fantastic second place for Cisse

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-015.jpg

Angarita takes third place in photo-finish from Korzh, who both made an impressive comeback. Altanzul has to settle for fifth place, followed by Jaser, Bogdanovics and Mansilla

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2019/Races/C2/vat/vat-05-016.jpg

So it's again Van Emden as race leader for the fourth day
