Giro del Trentino Preview
The season is nearing it's mid-point and the CT scene is as competitive as ever, across the board. The Giro del Trentino is the next stop on the CT bandwagon, and is the only event in the Continental Tour for climbers this month. Two previous winners, Winner Anacona and Janez Bajkovis, are in the startlist but they're quite some way down the pecking order this time around.
| Name | MON | RES | REC | ACC | | Suaza | 80 | 76 | 67 | 79 | | Pomoshnikov | 79 | 76 | 74 | 66 | | König | 79 | 76 | 72 | 67 | | Costagli | 79 | 71 | 76 | 67 | | Ratiy | 80 | 73 | 76 | 58 | | Panayotov | 78 | 76 | 73 | 72 | | Elissonde | 78 | 77 | 79 | 66 | | Stancu | 78 | 74 | 73 | 71 | | Rodrigues | 78 | 74 | 70 | 72 | | Atapuma | 78 | 72 | 68 | 73 | | Anacona | 79 | 72 | 74 | 61 | | Campero | 78 | 70 | 72 | 71 | | Parra Bustamente | 77 | 74 | 77 | 71 | | Diaz | 78 | 73 | 71 | 68 | | Cataldo | 77 | 75 | 73 | 72 |
Jamie Suaza starts off as the top favourite for this race, and he has been having a good season for after his move to Compal. Him and the team will be hoping that he keeps his run going.
Sergei Pomoshnikov and Leopold Konig look to be favourites for the podium, with their strong climbing and energy skills. Pomoshnikov has excellent support in Stancu and Pereyra to help in his cause.
Vadim Ratiy is a climber who can challenge Suaza on the climbs, but his weak acceleration will make it hard for him to stick strong attacks.
Teodoro Costagli is a contender for the Top 5, and probably even for the podium, with the only question marks being his ability to ride at a high pace up the long climbs.
Peter Panayatov has been having a much improved season, and his team look to be mirroring his fortunes in having a better season than previously. With Bardet as their second climber, it remains to be seen how the team spreads out responsibility. They do have a strong TTT setup and that will surely put both their climbers in a good spot after the first stage.
Kenny Elissonde is blessed with excellent energy abilities to go with his climbing and is another strong Top 5 contender. His acceleration is a little suspect.
Vitor Rodgrigues leads the line for climbing team Banco de Bogota. who should be yet another Top 5 contender, with the startlist making it extremely difficult to call those positions.
Stancu, Anacona and Atapuma should be Top 10 contenders in their own right, but it remains to be seen whether they'll have co-leadership roles or will be employed to help the stronger climbers in their respective teams.
| Name | MON | RES | REC | ACC | | Grmay | 77 | 73 | 76 | 71 | | Warbasse | 78 | 73 | 72 | 65 | | Bardet | 77 | 70 | 71 | 75 | | Brajkovic | 77 | 74 | 74 | 66 | | Hoem | 77 | 69 | 74 | 62 | | Pereyra | 77 | 74 | 66 | 64 | | Hirschlein | 77 | 71 | 72 | 59 |
With so many similar climbers in the startlist, it might come as a surprise to find someone like Warbasse so low in the outsiders list. He will need some sort of over-performance to get near the Top 10 in this race, but his team's good TTT ability will surely help.
Brajkovic and Hirschlein are two more riders who should find themselves in good positions after the TTT. It remains to be seen whether they'll hold on to that advantage after two hard days on the mountains.

We picked this race for one of our C2 ones precisely for the TTT. Seemed liked the only chance to score a single C2 point. We couldn't bring Quaade which hurts our chances, but I'm still hoping for a top 5.

I won't go through the squads one by one by except for Brajkovic (maybe) Warbasse will have a massive day in the TTT I hope, and I assume some overall contenders will loose minutes. Top5 is the goal, he's ridden at a good enough level to obtain that place here, but the competition is indeed strong although we hope it won't go lower than Top10, he does also have support.

Top 30 GC is the goal here, but judging by profiles it will be a damn hard task. +5 on both days for MAL please

Finally time to see Suaza back on the saddle. He's been a great asset so far, so looking forward to him delivering on stage 2 and 3 together with his compatriots Atapuma and Henao
The results of the TTT will be exciting. We're just mediocre at time trialing so there will be som time to catch up. Thank you so much for the preview! |

Hopefully we show some aggresivity in this race, given we don't have any leaders to support. Obviously any point is good in a C2 race

Well, with Serrano and Pirazzi getting dropped in the TTT we lost our only chances of minor GC places, but i expect them to go onto the attack in the two mountain stages

YESS A lot of pre-season focus was put in this exact stage and winning it plus getting Warbasse in a luxury position is a goal achieved. Takes away lot of pressure and starting out with the yellow jersey tomorrow will be a treat!
Thank you Abhi for the report

4th is way better than we expected so Suaza still in a very good position for the GC.
Terrible performance by Henao and Atapuma, but better to sacrifice them than to slow down the Suaza-train.
Can't wait for stage 2, thank you for the lovely report! |

I guess 2nd is as good as we can do. The gaps are very small so I doubt they will have a big impact in the mountains. Brajkovic is going to have to be on top form to finish in the top 10.
Looks like another questionable choice for a goal race

Nice attempt by Pirazzi in the breakaway, but would have been nice if he had cared about the KoM fight in the first climb...
