Lincoln GP
Being a part of the MG schedule since 2012, the Lincoln GP goes into it's 7th edition this season: the hilly parcours through and around Lincoln has definitely become a well known circuit. Downgraded to C2HC status this year, it's still the same course and so we can expect another challenging race for particularly those cobbles specialists, who handle hills pretty well.
The list of previous race winners includes names such as Jan Polanc (2017), Filippo Pozzato (2016), Sebastian Langeveld (2015) or Pieter Vanspeybrouck (2012). With two rather upsetting winners in both 2014 and 2013: Aleksei Saramotins (in a race, where a young Silvio Herklotz finished 3rd) and Christopher Stevenson. Breakaway wins can happen on this course, but it's often been a battle between the best "allrounded" cobblers here.
The Startlist

The Favorites | Favorites | HI | CO | AC | | Outsiders | HI | CO | AC | Breen | 70 | 77 | 72 | | Eeckhout | 61 | 77 | 57 | Van der Haar | 72 | 75 | 70 | | Hristov | 62 | 76 | 69 | Ferreira | 68 | 79 | 69 | | Minoungou | 65 | 75 | 68 | Kluge | 68 | 77 | 75 | | Abraha | 64 | 75 | 72 | Kulppi | 67 | 77 | 70 | | Vandenbergh | 64 | 75 | 59 | Zhupa | 67 | 77 | 68 | | Verbist | 62 | 75 | 64 | Breschel | 68 | 75 | 70 | | Veelers | 61 | 75 | 72 | Cominelli | 67 | 75 | 58 | | Ruiz | 60 | 75 | 58 | Taubel | 65 | 78 | 64 | | Vangenechten | 68 | 74 | 66 | Jacobs | 64 | 78 | 63 | | Van Wyk | 63 | 74 | 68 | Drucker | 65 | 77 | 75 | | Cancellara | 62 | 74 | 60 | Grand | 65 | 77 | 65 | | Naesen | 72 | 73 | 68 | Machado | 63 | 79 | 61 | | Thymides | 71 | 72 | 74 |
Speaking of allrounders... well, the CT field actually does not offer to many cobblers, that should be considered decent puncheurs as well! And that's quite a rare opportunity for Delvaux here, a team that comes with maybe the two top favorites: Breen and Van der Haar as the best cobblers with a decent punch on hills. Particularly Breen must be considered the most promising contender for the victory, as his combination of climbing, cobbles and acceleration is pretty outstanding in this field. Van der Haar as a great support at least, but also capable to pull a notable result.
Ferreire, Kluge, Kulppi and Zhupa as the next best "allrounders": Kluge with his well known strong kick for sprint decision and therefore a serious contender for someone like Breen. Ferreira obviously another rider, who has to aim for the podium against this competition, where no one except Van der Haar really stands out as a puncheur.
Breschel and Cominelli as less strong cobblers, but at least similar skilled to Ferreira/Kluge in terms of climbing hills.. other top cobblers like Taubel, Jacobs, Drucker, Grand, Machado or Eeckhout really do not like so many climbs on a cobbled race, but given the list of starters, they should at least benefit from their superior skills on the pavé.
Outsider's chances for guys like Naesen, Thymides or maybe Vangenechten: not too promising, when the cobbles do the trick here, but coming with similar strong puncheur skills like Van der Haar and Breen, they will certainly fancy their rare chances to be a factor in a cobbled classic.

We are going to try our hardest to keep the win in hands of Slovenian teams
But we know we are far from favourites here.

Glad to be back racing, Eeckhout with his estimated 120Kg will not like this race that much, but him and Naesen can only hope for a spark of luck for a possible good result.

I didn't build a proper team for one day classics, so any point here will be a big success. |

Hoping for a top 10 from Kulppi and a presence in the break with Brynjolfsson or Yechezkel.

Ah, I remember the battles here between De Maar and Langeveld. Good times.
This year, I'm obviously rooting for Yechezkel and Valio to do well. Of course Breschel and Cominelli are here too as former riders, but I'm not sure whether I want them to do well or suffer terribly.

Do Palyi score 1 point for finishing 25th? If so, thank you for that. At least!
Another race with no interest. I really need to focus more on one day classics next season. |

Happy with the result here. Zhupa in 4th is quite good as he doesn't fare that well on hilly terrain. Also a fantastic ride by Mestric to finish 16th after riding in the break all day, not bad for the youngster
Congrats Tamijo! Campari are killing it in the classics
Thanks for another awesome report Tsmoha

12th for Naesen and 19th for Oba, two delightful surprises. Eeckhout struggled in the hills, that was expected, but overall a solid race.
Thank you tsmoha and congratz Tamijo!

Breschel 14th is a bit under our expectation but he didn't have much of back up at this race so I'll guess we're okay with his result.
Thank you for the report! |

Awesome team effort! De Bondt and especially van der Haar is turning out to be some nice signings. Thanks for the latter, tsmoha!
Very exciting last few kilometers, and a great win Drucker in the end. Thought it looked very good for us in the bottom of the last climb, but Breen unfortunately didn't have enough power left to go all the way. Still, happy with 3rd here considering the performances from the rest of the team!
Thanks for the report!
