Impossible to get in a breakaway

I've recently started enjoying the pro cyclist mode quite alot, but i'm unable to get into a breakaway in every single stage of every single race, no matter if im trying to go with people 20 minutes behind in the GC, they won't let me go, does anyone know why?

Depends on timing, GC and race, really. Also depends on your rider's attributes.

Just try over and over again and someday it will succeed.
Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever.
