Changes are afoot for the Tour of America next season, although fundamentally it remains the same. It will be a C1 race, and will continue to cost 21 race days to enter.
However, the race will now be more rewarding: the HC points scale will be used for awarding ranking points from the race.
And additionally, a new route has been designed. As with the other new routes, I've worked with tsmoha to put a new course design in place - and all the credit for then making the stages is his.
We now see a route that is much more of a cross-continent route, with a significant amount of racing in Canada - there is a roughly 50/50 split between Canada and USA.
Tour of America | The Route 2018
| No | Type | Stage | Cty | Length | | 1 | | Edmonton (Prologue) | | 3km | | 2 | | Edmonton – Lacombe | | 183km | | 3 | | Red Deer – Calgary | | 173km | | 4 | | Calgary – Nanton | | 167km | | 5 | | Longview (ITT) | | 34km | | 6 | | Longview – Mt Norquay (Banff) | | 196km | | 7 | | Banff – Brisco | | 155km | | 8 | | Golden – Mt Revelstoke | | 173km | | 9 | | Revelstoke – Ellison Ridge (Kelowna) | | 204km | | 10 | | Kelowna – Apex Mountain Resort | | 199km | | | Transfer/rest day | | | | 11 | | Billings – Beartooth Pass | | 150km | | 12 | | Livingston - Helena | | 209km | | 13 | | Helena (ITT) | | 40km | | 14 | | Dupuyer - West Glacier | | 164km | | 15 | | Cresno - Red Mountain Resort | | 235km | | 16 | | Red Mountain Resort - Horseshoe Mountain (Republic) | | 167km | | 17 | | Republic – Timber Peak (Bridgeport) | | 171km | | | Rest day | | | | 18 | | Chelan – Kittitas (Ellensburg) | | 134km | | 19 | | Ashford – Paradise (Mt Rainier) | | 195km | | 20 | | Yakima Peak (ITT) | | 17km | | 21 | | Yakima - Ellensburg | | 96km | | | | | |

With no TTT any more, we have an increase in individual time trial kilometres. However, the mountain time trial is now on harder slopes, and in total there are 9 mountain stages - compared to 7 last year.

This is a nice looking route.
Hard as hell with that final week and already 3 MTF in week 2 as well.
Therefore a rather relaxed week 1. Wonder who will pick up Granjel Cabrera for this one or who is the new sprint dominator in the ToA? |

Not too many changes, but nice to see a new route. I hope the GC doesn't get decided too soon with this route though. Certainly a race I'd consider taking part in no matter what. |

I do like these changes! Obviously it'll be interesting with the new route and those mountain stages with the stages in Canada as well. I think increasing the scoring of the race to HC is an interesting idea and one that'll hopefully attract many more teams and riders to this great race. It's certainly a race that'd give managers much more thought now!

Loving the Canadian portions. Some super sexy stages, hope to see some good racing. Might give participating a thought too. Appreciate the changes to the scoring, thanks a lot. Retains the element of risk but without stupid low reward

A great route you have made Tsmoha! And with the new points system for the race, it might attract bigger PCT riders to this race. Though seeing some of the new C1 races in the calendar, it could be hard to decide to go here. But definitely not out of the question the possibility of coming here this year

Some hard climbs there, interesting route.
Reminds me of how Lövkvist almost won this race a few years ago, coming 2nd with less then 30 s to Berhane the winner. |

Nice work, looks like a great route. I really like the idea of increasing the points to HC as well, I think the race deserves it as do the managers who send their riders here.

Cool route and as everyone else I love the increase in points.
Will XP remain the same? Would make sense if that followed the points I think.

XP remains C1 as it belongs to the C1 calendar. |

Interesting route and new points system. This will certainly increase the racing tension. Although with HC points attracting more teams and the amount of flat TT km's so high, it's getting harder to see us coming back to the GT this season.
