Preview:
Pieter Vanspeybrouck the outright favorite to win this hard cobbled race. But that said we got a lot of potential winners able to win this race on the right day. Jérôme Baugnies, Kenneth Vanbilsen and Nikolas Maes all stronger on the flat sections.
Also riders like Vanmarcke, Stallaert, Nolf could win this on the right day.
Albert, Lampaert and Jacobs might be more likely to fight for secondary medals.
The Race:
The weather is perfect, sunny with no wind.
We see an early breakaway from two amateur riders, but Waeytens and Stuyven is keeping the pace high in the peloton on the first cobbled section, they never get more than a minute.
On the 2nd cobbled section Baugnies takes the front, quickly reeling the breakaway in.
The pace it very hot and the peloton breaks over, now just a group of 25 riders in front of the race, including all the favorites mentioned in the preview.
Entering the last cobbled section we got Maes in front with Vanspeybrouck and Baugnies at wheel. Now 21 riders in the favorite group.
Vanspeybrouck attacks.
The attack does not succeed he only get a very small gap. But it was enough to further reduce the group now just 11 riders left. Vanspeybrouck, Maes, Baugnies, Vanmarcke, Nolf, Stallaert, Vanbilsen, Albert, Lampaert, Jacobs and Van Keirsbulck
At 26” Vandenbergh and Nooytens, 11.6 km left.
10 km left
Now Vanspeybrouck has again opened a gap (12”), the favorite group seem to have slowed down a bit as Vandenbergh is now back.
At 30” Boeckmans has joined Nooytens from behind.
Vanspeybrouck get caught again and things cool down a bit enough for Boeckmans and Nooytens to catch up. 14 riders are now in the first group.
Then with 8.7 km to go Vanbilsen attacks a little later Vanspeybrouck accelerates trying to close up, the acceleration is hard on Nooytens he drops again.
7.7 km to go.
5 km to go, Vanbilsen still has a small gap to Vanspeybrouck.
The remaining favorites can’t keep up already at 45”
Just 1.5 km to go, we are now at the asphalt, Vanbilsen alone in front.
Vanspeybrouck seems to have boiled over a little bit and he was caught by the group behind, they are at 50” and will be fighting for secondary medals.
Vanbilsen wins the Belgian National Road Race Championship.
Under the red kite Stallaert, Boeckmans and Nolf, has opened a gap to the others.

Preview:
We got quite a clear favorite to win this one Dominique Cornu Frison and Vandousselaere at the next level with a small chance on the best days.
Beneath those a lot of almost equal riders with limited options to snatch a medal, but you never know.
The Race:
Waeytens first on the course, a mediocre tempo rider 1h13’48”
Soon a new best time Verhelst with 1h13’47” not a lot better.
Then the first time from one of the better tempo riders Vanendert new best 1h11’59”
Vanendert sits in the hot-seat for quite some time but can’t hold of Van den Broeck setting a much better time with 1h10’48”
Sweeck sets some almost unreal sector time threatening the on paper much better Van den Broeck 11” faster at 3rd sector
And he makes a new best 1h10’37”, a brilliant ride from him.
De Bie also fast, setting new best with 1h10’17”
Vermote 3rd at 30”
Wellens disappointing 8th
Vandousselaere new best 1h10’16 just 1 sec.
The two last riders crosses the line at the same time and they have been fast, new best and 2nd best time, but Dominique Cornu started 2 minutes after Frederik Frison.
