September was a big month for the PCT division. The Tour of America GT rolled in, to finally bring most PCT teams back in line in terms of amount of RDs spent in the season. But also three other stage races in the PTHC Ukraine, HC Colombia and C1 Japan. Finally two classics Rheden and Milano Torino as well.
It was all about the stage races for UBS. They came so close to winning in America, but there was no doubt for Amador in Colombia - and they in total reach 610 points, clear winners for the month.
Eritel raced the most, and they ended the month as second highest scorers. Berhane may have disappointed, but Kudus delivered two strong results, with a few other riders chipping in too. It was enough to see them just ahead of Ferrero, with Henao having gone well on home roads, as the team became the highest scoring non ToA team.
The ToA win ended up going to Ticos, who enjoyed by far their best race of the season - and 399 points is the 3rd highest single race score for a team this season. Only just behind 410 points for UBS in Osterreich, and 405 points for UBS in Vancouver.
SPAR complete the Top 5 after Denifl's win in Japan, with Meiji also scoring strongly across the Colombia/Japan combination. The hill strengths of Hagen made Grieg the 7th top scoring team of the month, while Uran helped Minions continue their resurgence.

It's all change at the top of the standings and we're in for a thriller now, as four teams enter the final month in contention for the division title.
Team UBS now lead the way on 3021 points with a narrow 16 point lead over Grieg-Eftel. The best mountain scorers just edging the best hill scorers. Amador has East Java left, Hagen has Emellia and Japan. 47 points off the lead are Berg Cycles, and it is only 15 more to former leaders Isostar. The latter do have the most race days remaining of all teams in the division, only they, Grieg and Podium Ambition will participate in all remaining races.
It's only to be a great battle for 4th but equally, a great battle for the final promotion position in 5th.
Ferrero move into that key position, opening up a 64 point advantage over Newton, the team they deposed. Pre-season favourites Orange are also still in the mix, ahead of Fablok. SPAR, Meiji, Generali and Indosat all closely positioned over 2200 points, not too far behind the promotion fight, but fighting a big battle for the Top 10 placings regardless. Eritel could also join the Top 10 fight, having climbed up to 13th this month.
Kraftwerk are the highest placed non-movers in 14th, with Novatek and Carlsberg also not changing - while Lierse are down two to 15th. Minions are up to 18th and over 300 points away from the final relegation position, as are Podium Ambition in 19th.
Euskaltel are dropping, while Netia remain on the bubble in 21st - Kwiatkowski's Japan performance proving key in keeping them there, after MOL and Ticos moved forwards with the Tour of America. 102 points the current gap between safety for Netia, and relegation for MOL. A quiet low-scoring month for Valio drops them to 24th, with nearly 200 points to make up.
Compal are past 1000 now, but there was no ToA miracle for Haute Route.

Their teams fight for the title, and so do they. Boasson Hagen leads the individual standings, with Amador keeping up the pace.
Van Garderen remains 3rd, with Froome now up to 4th ahead of Wisniowski. Uran is now 7th, and Kudus has jumped up from 25th to 10th, just ahead of Tour of America champion Barguil.
Last year's champion Kinoshita has now made it to 15th, while Henao and Sicard have moved into the Top 20.

Up to second, great! And that's even after we failed in the finish of Rheden GP.
Leading the pprd and having 14 race days left should even mean that we should have a chance to grab the title. Would certainly be a great achievement.
Massive month for UBS, congrats to Bushwackers. Nice to see the two riders battling for the individual crown also have lifted their teams to the top.
Top four seems sorted now, but what a fight for 5th. ToA was always going to be a gamble, and it might not have turned out for the better for Newton. Having been in the top all year, it's certainly a little surprise to now see them on the outside. Does speak of the form of Ferrero though, climbing rapidly the last months.
Think the bottom five is quite settled as well. Perhaps only a Lo Cicero in 2016 shape can give Valio a last chance.
Thx for the update, SN!

Well, we're looking pretty good with the relegation fight now. I'd almost be willing to say we're safe, but I'm not gonna get ahead of myself. Still a month left and we better score some to solidify that position and make the sponsors happy.

Hopefully that means Grieg promotes so Hagen can get the hell out of PCT
Promotion looks out of the question now, barring a miracle.

Finally people will look realistically at our team. We are no title contender, thank you very much. The month that was always going to be difficult is done, with the closing out being very difficult as well. With some bad luck it will be very difficult to hold on, with Newton having massive RDs left and Ferrero on stellar form.
Go Netia!!!

Tour of America was always going to be a gamble, but I wouldn't say it's too big of a disappointment. The alternative would have been putting Fraile and Warbasse into other mountain stage races to compete with the top GC riders in the division.
That wouldn't have gone well at all. I'm not sure they would have got 143 points over 21 race days. But, who knows. I'll have to live with my decision.
Auto promotion is still on the cards when we still have TVG to get us across the finish line at the end of the season. Nearly every season we are fighting for promotion or avoiding regulation.
Why would this season be any different?

Isostar not great but still overall amazing - just keep hanging on! Netia doing well so far, hopefully a strong strong finish for them to stay up

Nice to see us take the lead for a moment, but I believe the win will go to Grieg and EBH in the end with all the racing he has left. It was surprising to see Amador so close to winning the overall, I'm not sure what changed from last year where he was nowhere near as dominant as he has been this season.
It does look like the top 4 spots are secure but the 5th spot is definitely wide open. My guess would be Mre takes it in the end. It will be fun to follow!
As for relegation, I would be bummed to see Ticos go down. I became a fan of Ste's team during the Tour of America and really enjoyed racing against his mountain armada.
Thank you for the update, and thanks to all the reporters who have gotten us this far! Really looking forward to the finale!

What a month! Two months ago we were very much in the relegation zone and now we're comfortably ahead. Mathematically not completely safe but I think very strange things will have to happen should we still relegate. Úran up to seventh individual, with nearly half our points total.
Looking forward to the close battle at the top and at the bottom this final month, thanks for the update SN.

As already known at the start of the season this was a crappy month. Slightly more crappy than hoped for and slightly less crappy than hoped for from our main competition makes the scene for a grim october.
At the start of the season the goal for October would have been two top 5's in the hilly classics and a GC win in Barbados. That would give just over 350 pts which could be enough if all my competition has a bad/mediocre month. Sadly my team have performed below expectations so I'll probably only get half that amount of points, which won't be enough.

I'm holding my breath, this is going to be very close. Two big races for us, last season LLS and Vantomme got 2nd in Emilia and Solidarnosc (pretty much the same race as this time, but more special). Kwiatek and Vantomme haven't really hinted at getting those results this year, but with MOL and Valio both boasting more RDs than us, something along those lines would go a long way to making us feel more secure.
Thanks for the update SN, I'm still cheering on Isostar, whatever Croatia says.

Thanks for the rankings update!
I knew this was a decent month, but didn't think it would be enough to get into the top 10. I'd be very pleased if we could hold the top 10. Will be a close battle between 5 teams for the last two top 10 spots. On the same time, it is also a battle for the best East Asian team including 3 of these 5 teams.
My team still has the most race days of these 5, but two races are hilly classics in which we usually don't score at all. Other than that my three leaders Denifl, Guerao and Daniel each still have one race, hope they deliver. |

Everyone if the top 4 is a title contender at this point because a single unlikely upset result could be enough for each of the teams to claim the title.
Very exciting season finish. Four teams in the fight for the title, the fifth promotion spot is still possible for multiple teams and the fight against relegation is still going on. With Valio unlikely to make it, i really really hope that Netia can stay in the division. Fingers crossed.

Rheden really secured our safety, a big 120 there pushing us over the line. Without that, we'd be right next to Netia and panicking. Luckily we raced well in that PTHC affair and can now relax and enjoy a busy final month of the season!
Eyes now for October can be fixed firmly forwards and lets see if we can jump Minions and/or Carlsberg. That would be a great cap to the year as we achieve our only goal of not relegating. It only took 3 attempts to not relegate from the PCT
We can plan for next year, where we'll get a max'd Ewan. Won't be wasting tons of his race days on XP, which has really hurt this year. Can also be more free with Yates next year, although he'll need training to be a real threat. Burghardt will be the big off-season question, he's dissapointed a lot this year and he's going to decline. He'll need a huge pay-cut to remain on the roster, but could we replace him?
It's a wonderful dilema to have, when the alternative would be how to cut down to a CT budget.
We're safe. I'm happy. Let's end the year on a positive!

Even with low scoring, we still managed to do better than Euskaltel and Valio. Feeling sorry for Atlantius, that team should be PCT.

Still annoying the crap out of me though, especially since maybe half of them come from breakaway results on flat stages.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Still battling away but it might just be too much, who knows, Barguil has been impressive this season and we may struggle to keep him if we get relegated which will be a huge shame.

We're not relegating, maybe we can even miraculously end up 15th?
