The first "proper" stage race of the season
In 2008, Valverde won by 39 seconds over Frank Schleck, but it was the doper himself, Alexandre Vinokourov who won in 2007, 45 seconds ahead of Thomas Dekker

Valverde has decided not to defend his Paris-Nice title this year. Instead, France Televisions will be lead by Dutch prodigy, Robert Gesink. With help from a trio of French climbers Sandy Casar, David Moncoutie, and Remy Di Gregorio we at France Televisions hope to repeat last year's success in the Race to the Sun.

Good team choice there with 3 French climbers
I've brought a surprisingly strong team here. In fact, I've brought along all my best climbers

I'm here with a few solid riders. I should be going for top 5's here. |

Can I just say how stupidly strong this line-up is. Here are some of the team leaders, all from a different team:
Gesink, Dekker, Karpets, Contador, Menchov, Kashechkin, Sanchez G., Kirchen, Pereiro, Gil, Sastre, Intxausti, Rujano

Considering that Schleck only really gets one stage race other than a Grand Tour, Im glad I chose not to send him here. I thought there might be a fairly strong field.

This is also the first race where we have a full line-up, as Skittles (known as Mapei until they get a new jersey) field a squad

Nice ride for Gesink, hopefully he can turn the tables on Dekker in the longer TT.

That is a hilly TT, and the stats are:
Gesink: 77 Hill, 80 TT
Dekker: 76 Hill, 79 TT
Should be close

Watch out for my wild-card team, I put my top riders, Valjavec, Vansummeren, and Pereiro in the race, so I think I could manage some results. |
