PT Rankings Update #1

The first 7 PT races are finished as also 1 HC race for the Band 2 teams.
So it`s time for a first ranking update just before the first monument of the season (due to time issues).
First leader of the season was a fully new team in the highest division as Gazelle easily outscored all others in Badaling International due to a brilliant start by Ginanni.
Their sprinter squad though was not as strong and hence the Tour of Qatar changed the picture quite a lot.
Impressive though that at this date the newly promoted teams found themselves in the top area. Veterans Pokerstars took the lead after the Degenkolb show. Their training paid off as they now might have the fastest man in cycling. And also last years PT winner Becherovka was in a very good position just behind them as Bewley once more delivered.
Then though quite a few promoted teams followed as they seem to focus on sprinters quite a bit. Puma, Aegon, Evonik (who also scored best in the HC Down Under Classic from the PT teams), Grieg and Kenya all climbed over the 300 point mark after Qatar where only Red Bull was also in the mix.
Many teams then though lost ground in the cobbled classics. Becherovka though kept scoring and even without the (expected) double win, they scored very nicely to stay in the lead. Evonik with Van Avermaet though also scored almost as good proving to be their biggest challenger early on while teams such as Red Bull, Jayco, Puma scored consistent to move up as well. Vesuvio for once also must be named as they appear on the cobbled scoring board and hence moving up nicely as well.
The triple clash then saw the final scoring for this update. Aker - Mot outscored all teams in Tirreno and once more Evonik the runner-up there leading to a great start for knockout. Tinkoff though with Trofimov also started the scoring here in Tirreno after a calmer start to the year.
Paris Nice or also known as the Schleck Show then delivered Vesuvio about half their points so far and see them in the PT contender area again. No other team came even close to their score but Bouygues and eBuddy at least did their best and this is important as both teams are in the bottom half of the table.
Grand Duche as last race saw a Movistar domination. Also almost half their points so far from this race and this can be vital towards the end. Right now though they are in the first third.
Far down in the relegation zone Metinvest struggles without their top top leader Pluchkin. His scoring in the GTs is highly needed. And then 4 promoted teams sit in the relegation zone as well. Kenya surely had some bad luck with Kwiatkowski crashing. RBC and Grieg Eftel as also Bpost started not that successful. Later though slowly improved with the (still to improve) cobbled classics as also the Boeckmans games in Paris Nice. Grieg will need more from Guarnieri later on while RBC is setting most of their hope into Phinney, who hasn`t started his season yet.

Just like last year at this point Bewley is the PT dominator. The winners of the other races though follow closely as also the consistent scorers through several races.

Only existed in two races and we are still out of the drop zone. Amazing 
200 is a nice round score for Gesink. Great to see both Boswell and Sinkeldam with almost 100 points already.

Very poor start, although I have the comfort that things would be a lot better if crashes hadn't ruined Nice and Tirenno. Improvement needed soon. |

Not a surprise Becherovka is in the lead, great season start for them.
Is there some kind of ranking for the PCT teams in the PT? I'm interested to see how far my first PT races would've carried me.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

My team started very well. In especially when seeing that they pretty much failed in all races but Qatar and Tirreno and even Qatar could have gone better with Swift I feel.
Therefore Tirreno was better than expected and PN about okay.
Hopefully the team can go on like this as staying up in the PT is absolutely needed!
Evonik and Puma with a great start of the promoting teams. In especially first though need a perfect classic campagne as their GT lineup will lose them lots of points. |

Much like always our points are spread across many riders instead of just one or two, and having seen just 2 race days spent from Spilak I feel content being currently in 7th, although a few teams have more/less points than what I have calculated. Will control those figures higher than 10 points deficit and PM my results if mine seems more accurate. One team seems to be off by 30 points, which (in that teams probable situation) could be the difference between staying up or going down. Too early to say of course...
Koretzky, Spilak, Lecuisinier, David and Vlatos are all in the top 40 and scoring above 100 points each, while also Coquard, Le Gac and Tzortzakis are doing alright at this point. Maybe needing a bit more from Tzortzakis to be really dangerous in the top 3 battle.
My aim was to be in top 8 at this point (including Milano San Remo), and this seems doable. I hope (but don't think) that we can climb to top 7 or maybe top 6 after march month, and then we should start climbing up slowly after a probably horrible Giro d'Italia.

No official ranking.
But you would have scored 138 points in Omloop and 157 point in KBK. So not too bad. This would have been the 6th best and shared 5th best in those races! |

This would always be helpful. In especially early on in the season in case it`s a formula mistake in the file to avoid continuation of the mistake.
If it`s race specific, then it`s obviously easier to fix. |

Becherovka leading is expected.
But Evonik 2nd  Brilliant start by the PT newcommers, happy to see them do so well!
Quite the opposite for Kenya, eventhough the bad luck has been a part of the downfall, Ponzi need to make himself deserved of that price tag aswell.

Giro and Vuelta, that was announced some time ago.
But with that crashfest this year, i doubt he will even finish both...

Boeckmans really helped to keep us competitive after disappointing cobbled races. We will have to hope for an improvement across the classics to come.
Also Wellens at the Giro is starting to look really important already.

For us, 4th place is pretty good, eventhough I must admit I had expected a little more from Kristoff pre season.
Guess the coolest thing about this ranking update is how close it actually is from 1st and all the way down to 16th. It just underlines that it's way too early to say anything absolute about how the rankings will look when the season is done.
Bewley running away with the lead in the individual rankings was obviously expected, but Schleck's dominance in Paris-Nice could see it become a race this season. |

That ranking looks great for us, especially considering Ciolek at Qatar and Blythe at KBK were very underwhelming. We could've been Top 3 with more consistent results there.
10 riders among the Top 100 while having none in the Top 30 is incredible (and mostly down to the Badaling randomness to be fair), of course we can't keep that up but it's nice to see that depth working out in the first months.
With only one mountain race done so far, we really need a good cushion though, and I hope in the upcoming stretch of MSR, cobbles and hills, we continue to score well to prepare for the GT struggle.

Nah, i would love that race to happen, but it is absolutely unreal to beat Bewley with a stage racer. Pluchkin came close last year by dominating two GTs with several stage wins and jerseys, i cant see Schleck doing much better with 1GT with Spilak in it + few more races...

Not the greatest start for us, really, could be way better. 
Ah, just kidding. Great to see us right at the top, man needs to be satisfied at least sometimes. Looks like we are too much Bewley dependant though. Other leaders seriously need to show at least something, otherwise I have no chance for top place this year.
Nice to see Bewley right at the top again. Will be harder to keep that place this year, I believe, he is not as good as he was in the sprint field this year.

Solid start despite our no-show in Qatar and Morton not delivering in P-N. Bobridge and Burghardt were always going to be our main scorers, good to see they did quite well so far.
