Because obviously it'd be a protection against copying.

Yeah, maximum of 5 activations, that is a way of protecting against copies.

Don't know that for sure, last year I installed and uninstalled several times on Steam, this is probably more for the physical copies.

No because of their DRM. Only 5 times. After these 5 times, you need to contact the developer, or Steam.

Of course you can uninstall and install how many times you want, you just have to choose to keep the game activated even when it is uninstalled...
