Hinault, Anquetil and Gimondi Stats
udoi
Ciao

Statistics that you would give to Bernard Hinault, Jacques Anquetil and Felice Gimondi?

Anquetil is probably one of the Top5 TT'ers of all time and built his GT success around that skill, in a similar fashion to Indurain. But don't discount his climbing ability either. An outstanding stage racer with some nice wins in classics.

Hinault is again an excellent time trialist, racing 8 TDF's and winning 13 time trials in them. His Tour wins were beastly as he wasn't afraid to attack. We know the Badger would fight. He won all the ardennes classics as well as Lombardia and pretty much every big race, being the last rider to win Roubaix and the Tour.

Gimondi was a good stage racer and classics rider. Not as strong a time trialer as Hinault or Anquetil but he could hold his own. Probably i'd say he was a slightly better climber. He could also hold his own in classics.

Just some basic thoughts. Certainly Hinault and Anquetil are a level above Gimondi but Felice is a strong ride in his own right. Those stats are kind of based against each other, Gimondi being slightly high as a result if you were to compare him to some other greats.

Gimondi was a better classics rider than Anquetil & Hinault, though. I mean the cobbled classics.

Gimondo is probably Merckx' biggest rival. Sure you had De Vlaeminck but he could never challenge him in the GTs.

Though I agree he is below Anquetil & Hinault. Not by a large margin, though.

Tough to compare such riders, who all lived in different times.

I'd have him about the same skill as Hinault on cobbles, probably better than Hinault in terms of flat skils, endurance and finishing sprint.

Problem with Hinault is that ne never really bothered with RvV or P-R, thus only winning Roubaix once and riding a 4th place. Ronde only competed once.
So it's hard to give him cobbled stats. Surely he could ride them (you can't win Roubaix elsewise)... Not an easy choice. It also depends on why you want the stats. If you want a career to try and reflect their careers, high COB might send him to Ronde.
