Hi all,
If you should give Eddie Merckx Pcm stats, what would you give him? (And yes I now its hard when the level and competetors are different today but still)

Merckx was no sprinter. With those stats, he'll win sprints in small groups after a tough race, so that's what he could do. But he won't win mass sprints
Also, hidden stat:
Invoking fear into enemies: 85
Popularity: 57

Putting my personal edits in bold. Basically humanising him a bit more and making him not a complete and total overkill. But i mostly agree with Ian

Well, that does not make much sense, because he was total overkill, so you either reflect it in stats like Ian did, or you are making stats for anybody else.

Well the sensible thing would be to give him all 85's
But if you are trying to stat someones whole career without a reference point it's tricky. It's not like Merckx was the best ever climber, he wasn't even the best climber of his time. He was just such an all-rounder in a time of relative all-rounders. Certainly in a PCM world his backups are his best quality and would put him in the mix for any race.
Put him into a world of specialization like we have now and it's hard to say how good he'd be on different terrains. Would he be all conquering or more like a Sagan who's good pretty much anywhere but not the best on any terrain?

Ocana was a better climber at the same time, he wasn't the very best at anything at the time, except maybe on cobbles, he was just one of the best at everything and he was a very good tactician and just in general on the bike he was very efficient. |
