Making Desert and Snow Biomes / fields

with my project of Tour le Besoin de Vitesse (need for speed the run route)
i´m having stages going from normal to desert to nature.
or from nature - normal - Extreme snow (independence pass)

the question how to make snow and desert like you create the fields.
because i need parts of deserts on the route and parts of snow.
but i don´t want to have the whole route in desert or snow,
just some parts. how do i do that?

Not sure if this is possible.

If I remember correct, there is a xml file somewhere, where you can change the snow height. But then it`s just on top for example. Or in case you lower the height to nearly 0m, it`s snow everywhere (on every stage actually).

Alternatively I guess you would need to change lots of textures like the cyclo cross DB is doing. So for example changing specific fields to snow textures or desert textures.
Never tries this and so I am not 100% sure if this is possible at all.

So if i just have an GPX of the Rocky Mountains (aspen) and load it in stage editor,
it won't be under snow but just green grass? damn.
and i can't make desert fields without making textures, damn
Sad that's just awfull.
most of time that was the most exciting part of Need for speed the run.
but anyways i'm going to redo the Openrunner so i will keep in mind the snow and desert won't work anyways.

Independence pass isn't high enough i think,
it's only under snow in the winter,
and the road is officialy closed in winter due to extreme conditions.
i want to make that road under extreme winter conditions.

You can change the snow height. So you can make all spots above 100m for example snowy. It does not need to be realistic.
