Praha- Karlovy Vary - Praha
A quite young race on the calendar, but already prestigious: the challenging race around Praha goes over 267km and features a tricky flat rated profile. A bit similar to last month's Lisbon Classic, it's definitely an interesting route with short climbs all over the place.
Anyway, the race came down to a bunch sprint last season, where Tom Boonen took line honours ahead of Julian Van Heerden and Greg Van Avermaet. Being held in the Czech Republic, this is also a very special day for Becherovka in particular: this mission is clear - Bewley needs to better than last year (8th)!
The Startlist
The Favorites
| Top Sprinters | FL | SPR | Classic Riders | FL | STA | Swift | 74 | 84 | Burghardt | 79 | 80 | Boonen | 81 | 83 | Pozzato | 79 | 79 | Bewley | 78 | 83 | Ballan | 79 | 75 | Bennati | 74 | 83 | Kneisky | 79 | 76 | Guarnieri | 76 | 82 | Kluge | 78 | 77 | Roelandts | 75 | 81 | Summerhill | 78 | 76 | Kennaugh | 77 | 81 | Coppel | 77 | 78 | Rowe | 78 | 79 | Vanspeybrouck | 76 | 78 | Van der Lijke | 72 | 77 | Blythe | 76 | 76 | | Pure Sprinters | FL | SPR | Puncheurs | FL | HI | Mohs | 75 | 83 | Claeys | 73 | 83 | Guerao | 74 | 83 | Van Garderen | 73 | 82 | Van Heerden | 73 | 82 | Gastauer | 69 | 81 | Avelino | 71 | 82 | Costa | 70 | 80 | Stauff | 74 | 80 | Klemme | 71 | 80 | Kip | 69 | 80 | Schreurs | 70 | 79 | Santos | 71 | 79 | Sagan | 72 | 78 | Guardini | 70 | 78 | Roux | 74 | 78 |
A certain manager from an energy drink sponsored team does call them bastards, we call them beasts: Boonen and Bewley are surely the two riders to beat here. It's a packed startlist of course, so also Swift, Bennati or Guarnieri will be amongst those "complete" sprinters aiming for the win.
Less allround talented sprinters like Guaero, Van Heerden or Avelino may hope for a not too tough pace in the second half. Van Heerden did great last year, while also Guerao (11th) at least was in the mix. Both do not really enjoy a good season though..
Of course we need to have a close look at those roleurs/classic specialists: Pozzato took out the Lisbon Classic in style and could be listed as a sprinter anyway. We should expect him to be strong again. Less good sprinters like Burghardt, Ballan or Kneisky all know how to survive tough races like this and can be real threats in a tough final.
And then we have some puncheurs, too: Claeys, Van Garderen, Gastauer or Costa may hope for a selective race over those hills. Van Garderen as the most complete of those names did finish as 15th last year, so he may aim for more this time.
Again, some teams will be in the focus for sure: Wikipedia vs Vesuv... Rothaus vs VW in particular!

Thanks tsmoha.
Shouldn`t have send my 3 sprinters here...with Ballan, Vanmarcke, Roux alone I would have had more chances I guess.
Though I still hope those three will at least try something and not wait for my sprinters to not participate in the sprint...
Just on paper my team is pretty strong normally.

One of the most interesting flat rated races of the season here. Nice preview. I'd love to get Fumeaux in the breakaway, but I don't expect to place anyone in the top 50.

I am hoping Julian does it for ember
I forgot I sent Coppel here, bit of a cheeky attempt at cheeky points.
Go on Copp (or Burger or Potato) kick the BooBew's in the Balls.
Seriously I have a stagiere riding here so I am taking the piss. A strongman sprinter deserves it!

This should go to Boonen, Bewley, Big Ben or the other Ben. Burghardt and Ballan are good bets as well, or even Bilippo Bozzato.
However it's obvious Avelino will bring his A game to defeat all these b-boys.
Great preview, tsmoha, thanks for another race

Really need a big result from Swifty here. I don't expect a win, but a podium would be great. Could be an interesting indicator for the World Champs this, as well.

Need and hope for a good result here, best case is Klemme or Flügel winning on a late attack with Pozatto winning the bunch sprint after... More likely is Pozatto getting a top 5. I hope (and believe) this race is too hard for the pure sprinters. Thats what I planned for and that is what I need.
Really excited for this one!!!!

When I joined the MG I asked you about Schreurs. I will relegate voluntarily if you finally sell him to me.

Just a perfect preview, tsmoha!
The biggest race of the season is probably here for my team, I brought the most probably the best support team possible for Bewley. That win would be superb. Let's go Becherovka!

Judgement Day is coming! If we want succeed in overall rankings, we must succeed here. Competition is as hardest as possible, but I remain confident that my "Boo bastard" together with help of his team mates will shine once more.
Thanks tsmoha for preview (btw, it´s not only Roman´s home race, I´m Czech as well), can´t wait to your another stunning report!

Pressure is on. Can't remember Guarnieri beating Boonen/Mohs or Bewley much this season so here's hoping an upset!

Big race once again for Roelandts, I really want him to step up here.
I am however expecting a Boonen-Bewley 1-2, given the length of the race
