GP Liechtenstein
Tough, tougher... Liechtenstein! The ProTour is heading for one of the most brutal one day classics this year: 240km in total, 13 challenging loops featuring a steep climb, plus a wall of a climb up to the finish. If you ain't calling yourself a mountain goat, you will most probably hate being nominated for this race by your DS!
Anyway, such a mountain classic should make for a thrilling race. There's simply no excuses for a non-selective race or something: only the best (climbers) will survive. And speaking of best: Damiano Cunego took out last year's edition, now coming back to defend this prestigious title!
The Startlist
The Favorites
| MO | Rider(s) | | | | | 85 | A Schleck | Pluchkin | | | | 84 | Alacorn | Machado | | | | 83 | Cunego | Velits | Contador | Tenorio | | Denifl | | | | | 82 | Taaramäe | Henao | Nibali | Kritskiy | | Sella | Dekker | | | | 81 | Martin | Vd Broeck | | | | 80 | Ratiy | Suaza | | | | 79 | G Marchante | Keizer | Samwel | Monsalve | | Pinot | Brambilla | Solis | Keinath | | Antón | | | | | 78 | Faiers | | | |
Where to begin with such a packed startlist? Right, the GT-winners from this season: Schleck (Tour), Alacorn (Vuelta) and Cunego (Giro) alone would make for an epic startlist. Those three showed some impressive shape this year and so defending race-winner Cunego should again be amongst the strongest here. Alacorn though just crushed the competition in Columbia, so he's still on fire.
Pluchkin (3rd in 2013, 2nd in 2012) and Machado (2nd 2013, 8th 2012) may be considered as the most dangerous contenders. Machado again aiming for some well needed success for his team (after his strong showing in Columbia most recently), while Pluchkin would love to fight back from his loss against Schleck at Le Tour! Same goes for Tenorio of course, who had his problems here last season though (7th).
Nibali (4th last year) will try to repeat this strong result from 2013, while also Contador (5th), Velits (8th), Denifl (11th) or Van den Broeck (10th) can be real threats this year.. same goes for an in-form Taaramäe, an Le Tour-unlucky Henao Montoya, Kritskiy, Sella or Dekker. Too many outstanding climbers to name them all. A few teams (like Rothaus, BPost or wildcard Kenya) will hope for some luck in this brutal race.

Brutal race indeed, what a profile
Should be an interesting race, some top class riders at the start. |

Hmm. Having one in the top20 is realistic with another top 25-30.
But actually I hope to have one in the top15 or two in top20 to at least get some points.
Seeing that Volkswagen is favourite over me, I hope to reduce the loss to them at least. One of the races I had no ambitions at all preseason and still did sent my strongest mountain team. |

Well, this is definitely not the race we could shine in. Hopefully we´ll present our colours in break at least. Looking forward to another thrilling report!

A bit surprised to see only 4 of the 7 riders with a mountain stat of 84 or 85 here. A top 10 is the goal here for Contador, and it would be lovely to see Antón active before the favourites have a go at it.
Seeing his combination of mountain, stamina and the almighty acceleration stat, I think Schleck is the favourite, but the impact of daily form should be huge.
Looking forward to the report! |

This is always one of my favorite races of the year. Hopefully a top-10 for Nibali, and my guess is Schleck for the win.

The distance should rule alarcon out - but he has been super super all year. Finally he meets the pretender in Schleck, though I feel Pluishkin should be a threat to come second at least he is good at that!

One of those crazy races where I hope Good Energy show themselves in a break at the very least, as Faiers has not shone for me this season. I'm thinking he might be one-foot out the door at the moment.
Bit confused as to why I didn't bring Costagli - the better pure climber between Scarponi and himself, but I presume it was due to race days or a race clash.
Hopefully Scarponi will continue to score a couple more points for the bank, to try to close down on Pokerstars in the rankings.

I'd go for an 84/85 climber to win, but I'd like to see either Cunego or Taaramae win.
Top 10 for Rein is more realistic though

I hope both Sella and Monsalve get far infront of Keizer :-p He should be that nice to his old manager.
In general I hope my riders do well here, in many way a perfect race for Sella. Even though he should not be able to beat the super-climbers

I would rather serve a year in jail then riding this sharky tooth profile
This should be the one for Schleck and i expect Cunego and Sella in the roles of dark horses for the podium.

I couldn't fit Spilak here, so I decided that it wasn't worth it to put Ricco either, as the competition would probably mean that he would fight for a 10th or worse. So Ratiy is here, which means 25th-35th depending on his daily form.

Probably not going to get a great result from this, hoping for a top 10 at best probably. Thanks tsmoha.

I think any visibility will be a success here, due to such a quality field. Samwel will have to pull off something amazing to get near the big favourites. |

Seemed so good, but Sella collapsed in the end. Still I stole some points from Rothaus here, even though I hoped for more

Horrible. Not even one in the top20...
Good for my team that Monsalve got an even worse day. So it was just Sella.
Sorry Heine. Would prefer both of us to stay in PT. But this is unlikely. |

Quite disappointed with Henao. Both Velits and Gesink brought better results in the past despite being weaker climbers than the Colombian.
